Television churns out such crap these days - reality shows about how many insects you can eat, showing the world the sad efforts of celebrities attempting to kickstart their obsolete career; more gardening and home improvement programmes than can (or should) be listed here; endless repeats of programmes you once enjoyed, but are now sick to death of; dumbed down news

I gave up caffeine a few years ago, after an allergy test showed me that it was the reason I wasn't able to sleep at night and was constantly tired. It's a pain for the first few days - the headaches, the grouchiness - and then it leaves your system and you're fine. The energy that I got after it though was worth it - stick to it!
I don't know how to do quotes.... But, if you're interested, some wacky suggestions: Yes, America will want to pull out of Iraq, but leaving it in a worse state than they found it will be noticed by even the most blinkered Republicans. The US wants international support in Iraq... and Europe will give it. However, they'll (hopefully) have their sensible heads on and make America pay a price - putting pressure on Israel to stop building settlem
Thanks Meghan - good to know I'm not the only one. We gave up best behaviour Christmases a long time ago - it's more about immediate family now, so nice and relaxed. It used to be awful - entertaining old people you'd never met before... Have a fabulous Christmas - I'm sure delivering the presents to your adopted family will be more fulfilling than anything. Good on you, and have a great 2005!!!
Vacillating between eagerness and apprehension, I’m going home for Christmas tomorrow. Let’s start on the positive note – eagerness. I am such a homebird – how else would you explain essentially living at home (the latter years of living most of the week in Belfast, a mere 20 miles down the road, excepted) until the ripe old age of 25. I get on b
A seat on the tube, a drink with friends, a smile from the man I love... And seeing a piece of filth like this get done. What makes YOU happy, fellow blogger?
And there I was expecting Maroon 5.
Good on you Meghan. That's what Christmas should be all about. Our family donate to charity now instead of presents - we get cards saying such and such amount was put in on our behalf - but yours sounds like a much more immediate impact. It must be a wonderful feeling.
I think you should post a pic You should try putting a hot oil treatment on it, that tends to make temporary hair dyes (or ones I have used in the past) slightly more so.
And the answer is................... no. No, nay, f-ing never. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/4078745.stm
My friend is going to be married soon. She hasn’t actually met her future husband yet, but that’s a lesser detail. And it makes me so sad – how much she will be missing. The process of getting to know someone, falling in love, and the realisation that they are your best friend and you need to have them in your life forever. Arranged marriages do not permit
Cheers I know - you've summed it up: what suits one will be anathema to the other. But I think that there is a recognition now by the DUP that neither side can 'win' and it is get on and govern, or let London and Dublin do it jointly. I'm sure Blair spelt that out in no uncertain terms, which is why things might be moving forward. Trimble was so vulnerable that Blair couldn't coerce him to take risks, and there was a lack of parity in the proc
Aw!!! Lovely to see you again You're looking very well.
A year ago, if you’d told me that there was going to be peace in our time in Northern Ireland, I’d have laughed in your face, and then bought another drink. It’s been just over a year since the Northern Ireland electorate, in their infinite wisdom, plumped for Sinn Fein and the DUP. A postponed election here, a little summer madness there, and some frankly
Aye well done big lad It used to make my boss's day whenever I used to put the phone down on some rude person and call them a 'fucking cow' - rhyming with 'sow', not the estuary english version, of course...
Thanks very much guys - you managed to say in a few sentences what took me several paragraphs - you're much more succinct! Dusk, that's an interesting take on it, about the men acting in a way that the emancipated woman would be. Meghan, I'm glad that I wasn't alone having that perspective. I don't think the films reflected the books - massive amounts were left out for one thing, her friends were completely ignored, and it made her look like a
Romantic comedies have a strange effect on my boyfriend. We went to see Love Actually last Christmas, and he called into a shop on the way home to buy me flowers. He was swept up in the spirit of things, I guess, and it made my day. However, the new Bridget Jones film hasn’t had him rushing to the florists – more like the next train away from me, who is obviously some
The countdown to 2008 has already started. Here’s my tuppence worth. Losing an election is a bit like a bereavement. It is the death of your ideal. I think that most politicians, even the most cynical, pragmatic and artful ones, start off as utopians – their ideology, philosophy, weltanshauung, whatever, informs how they do things, and how they want things
I am pro-choice. Regardless of when life begins, I believe that it is a woman’s right to have that choice. It is the right of the mother not to bear an unwanted child. How dare the state force someone to bear a child? And how dare anyone judge them? Even if it were conclusively proved that life began at conception, I still think that women should have that choice. For two reasons: 1. The life of a person is worth more to me. 2. B
Check out this link from today's Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1337887,00.html If this is proved, then Kerry didn't jump on a bandwagon, he's entirely right in his pursuit of Bush on this matter.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1337887,00.html And maybe, when this is verified, you should take the word "specious" out of the title...
Hmmm, and Bush has never exploited a situation to get what he wants... : ) You say jumping on the bandwagon, I say calling the President on something he fucked up. Potato, Po-tat-o. If you're still reading, I got this from today's Guardian (www.guardian.co.uk) "An October surprise is the beast in the woods of electoral lore and mythology, the unexpected news event or revelation that comes out of the blue with the pote
I struggle with the idea of writing. Blogging, to be more specific, but writing in general. It’s something that I loved doing as a child – nothing made me happier than reading a book or writing a story. There are a couple of memories about this which came back to me recently when I was trying to recapture this whole idea and motivate myself to blog again.<B
I watched My Summer of Love the other night. God, it was really good. You may or may not have heard about it, but I’m going to put the link at the bottom of the page and I heartily recommend you all go to see it. It’s a BBC film that’s just been released, and is just wonderful. One of my favourite things to do before I left Belfast was to go to t
The holidays are ending, the work is going to begin... After a four month stint temping in the civil service, I'm starting a new job on monday. Regular recipients of emails from me "bored in work" will know what a departure this is. I will have to change the title of this blog, for one thing. As a temp, I had various secretarial duties, filing, admin, bein
