2008. 2007 wasn't SO bad. It was doable. Hopefully 2008 will bring about some interesting things as well. I've applied for a Fullbright Scholarship. If accepted into the program, I will be going to Japan this summer for three weeks, all-expenses-paid, to study the Japanese education system and schools. Considering I've never been out of the country...wel

Just wanted to let you know what was going on in our household. I'm officially down 11 pounds. Not a WHOLE lot, but enough to feel a difference in the way clothes fit. Most of the weight is coming off the lower part of my body--rear, legs, etc. I'm waiting for my gut to start to shrink. That would be lovely, but I guess I don't have much choice in the mat
I've always loved the Fargo-Moorhead area. It's beautiful, and even in a larger city (for the upper Midwest, anyway), there is such a sense of community. When someone is in trouble, there is abundant material and financial support. Conjoined twins, naturally-occurring quadruplets? No problem. Cancer diagnosis? Covered. This article really comes as no su
Thanks, Trudy. See, I know I'm fat. And if that's all they can come up with, well, I can handle that. And I fully believe that God made us all different for a reason. I can't say that to my students, but we do talk alot how people learn at different speeds, and by different methods. And we even talk about our skin in science, and why peoples' skins are different colors. We're not all made the same, and I think that's awesome. I
It has been brought to my attention by a couple of bloggers lately that I am a very large woman. In fact, that little piece of information has been spouted over and over again by these certain bloggers. I haven't been called fat so many ways since elementary school. I've always been a big girl. My family never departed from the typical "farm-family" meal
Shea might have the same sentiments about you, K. She might have days where she things that you're a gawd-awful dork (although I can't really imagine that...), but once we've lived a little, our perceptions change. I have much the same feelings about my mother. I was a TOTAL daddy's girl until there wasn't a daddy around anymore. It took a couple of years, but my mom and I have become very close. She drives me batty sometimes, but I realiz
I had my first round of conferences in New Town this week. They went really well. I had my students lead their conferences this year after finding lots of positive research on them. I had my students write down some things they thought they were doing well in, some things they were having difficulty understanding, and a goal they would like to work towards
Seriously, we had this conversation about jobs like TWO months ago. You have my sympathies if you have so little going on in your life that you dwell on this shit. Wow. *strokes your all-powerful ego*' You're just fucking great. *pulls her porker ass (that lost five pounds this past week, mind you) off your pathetic blog. Because, IT IS YOUR BLOG*
And if it was made some time ago, and I'm not even remotely active, why do you continue to mull it over? Who would've thought a retard like me could do this to you? Whatever. You're more of a person than I'll ever be, obviously.
I missed the "Lowe's" part and was going to suggest you move to Oregon because you HAVE to have someone pump your gas there. Duh? Read a little slower, Moo. Here's my deal with this issue: What about housing for these people? There is such an influx of people to our area that there are very few affordable housing options. McDonals, Lowe's, Smiths, Home Depot--they all need people to make them run well. And these people can't find housing
Make all the assumptions you want, but I haven't been on JU all week because I've been putting some 14 hour days in. Ziggy may have accidentally posted under my name when he was using my computer. You can take that up with him.
shades~ I'm a loser. I'm 27 years old and the only excitement in my life is my students beating the crap out of each other and seeing what my blood sugar is twice a day. It's a boring kinda life. Thank you for the congrats, though. I'm so "stoked"! How are things on the east coast? I haven't been around much... Take care!
Only like 100 more to go. lol Thanks, though, Loca. This is the first time I've ever had some success with weight loss. I'm excited!
So, after I was diagnosed with the diabetes, I had to keep a diet journal for two weeks. I didn't change anything, just ate like I normally do. After those two weeks my doctor and I sat down and went through and talked about different options for my diet. Obviously chocolate is a big stumbling block for me. I can still have it, just not the punds at a sitting, you
The best cheeseburger I ever had came from an auction. My grandpa used to go there every Thursday to buy junk. in the summer when I didn't have school, I'd get to go with him. And after the junk buying was over, we'd go to the kitchen and get a cheeseburger. That was some good stuff. Maybe it was just who I was eating with?
I know those of who have or who have had family members in the military overseas are going to want to kick my rear end for this, but I miss my husband. He's been gone for almost a month doing this training thing. We still don't know when he'll be home for even a few hours. I miss being able to argue with him in person, and talk to him the minute I walk in t
On Monday I had that work physical, right? Tuesday morning I went in for my fasting blood draw, and on Thursday afternoon I went in for the ultrasound. So...let's say that things didn't go so well. Expected, I suppose, but disappointing nonetheless. It's not "official"...I'm not supposed to know, because the ultrasound tech isn't allowed to say anything, b
You have so much negativity toward teaching...why are you even a teacher? When you ask comments from parents, and you get a view contrary to your own, you get very defensive. Do you actually want other opinions, or are you simply looking for validation? Have you READ the responses on this thread?
Zubaz~ Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. Honestly, I don't know of a teacher at my school that doesn't assign homework. I think its a generally expected thing. I will make a point to ask though. I know that nearly all teachers require reading for the Book It program through Pizza Hut. I required it before Book It started, but it was just an assumption that it would be done. I didn't require it to be documented like I do f
LOL. I don't need public schools to teach my kid responsibility or discipline. Did you? Come on, that's just silly. Your kids needed homework to teach them how to be responsible and finish a task on time? Yikes. You don't, but if schools DIDN'T do these things--like homework, or teaching kids how to not beat the crap out of each other on the playground, well, I'm sure society at large would come up with some reason to continue to hate public educati
Try to get the teacher to allow you to do half of every assignment. Every odd number, or some such crap. Talk them into agreeing that "getting the concept" is the point of the homework. Get them to agree that "of course it's not busy-work". Then spring the "half-homework for a month" plan. They'll have a hard time arguing with it
Yay! Welcome home, A! Thank you so much for all you do for our country!
I had my "work physical" today. The new doctor is awesome, and she listenened to my concerns well, and she's pretty easy to get into. So...luckily my cerebellum is okay. I talked to her about concerns about my meds. She added Wellbutrin, so we'll see how that goes. I spent several hours on the phone trying to track down a doctor I had in Las Vegas because
I'd recommend it to anyone who HASN'T had any success with other treatments, I am in no way advocating that anyone currently taking meds to dump them and take up weed-smoking, and your doctor is NEVER going to recommend this. The reason for that should be pretty obvious. Just remember, these psychiatrists do not make much money o
Also, in that scenario, the argument about repetition is thrown out the window. If you have it repeated at school and don't understand it, yet somebody else is able to teach it a different way- it's not repetition that is helping you learn. I wasn't arguing for repetition. The kids who don't h
