I have found as many as 5 in a gigantic universe. I ended up winning an influence victory on that. My enemies did find one lucky ranger that took 6 of my Battle cruisers to take out. (The ranger was not even their most powerful ship by that time!)

I read this and started the campaign, and this mission is flat out EVIL! They were crushing me when my comp froze. I think I will start back a bit and try again.
Sounds like you have a lot that you could share with us here. Please use a few more Paragraph breaks as I need new reading glasses, and your main points were a bit jammed together. That does not sound like an ideal situation for the people who need help, or the people who want to provide help. Perhaps these folks should do a bit of scriptural research for a bit of attitude adjustment. I hope the situation improves in your area Gid.
Shogun has the initial turn strategy right, but I would add this; Buy your first factory or two to increase the speed that your ships are built. Also after you have your planets growing you can click on the little arrows in the Mil, Social, or research box on each planet screen to increase the emphasis on that area. (For that planet only) This helps to reduce the number of times you have to adjust the sliders for overall economic policies. Remember that i am just a Nub at this game to
I agree with most of your review Trent, But I never found myself sucked into a 13 hour session of Civ 4. That has happened to me at least twice with GCII and will probably happen this weekend. The only reason it has only happened twice is that I have classwork, work work, and other assorted projects that have a short suspense period. This one envelopes your being completely! No custom cursors but I have had my mouse freeze on 2 different occasions after clicking on a build command. These both required reboots. Both with my Logitech MX-100o wireless and my MX-518. Both USB and plugged into my Monitor. GeForce 7800GT with the latest drivers. Other than that the game is sweet! (Love the victory music)
I love It! I was winning in my first game, playing as Korx vs 3 other races in a small galaxy. I was winning until the damn terran president was assasinated. That had to be my fault. The AI smoked me. (But I loved it)

Game downloaded at 95 KB/sec to 165 KB/sec with no problem after SD told me I needed to update first. Now I see that I need to DL the tutorials and videos also. videos are D/L right now with the speed ranging from 21 -95KB/sec with occasional jumps up to 275 KB/sec. The farther it gets the faster the average speed gets. I am just glad that it has been trouble free, and makes it easier to play when the final files come out on the 21
X-Com UFO Defense, patched to work in XP, and reading R.L. Modesitt Jr. to make my brain work on how my ethics will affect my gameplay. I was even dreaming of strategies for the game after reading Brad's accounts and the chat from customers. I better do my homework before release or my project that is due thursday is going to go badly.

You get what you pay for! If you want the coolest stuff for your display, Go to Stardock and purchase WC and WB. Don't go where a drive by D/L will get you! Glad that AAW fixed you up though. That and some expert advice from the Computer smart folks here.
