No surprise, but I agree with the Modman. Cons are traditionally the accepted "closed-minded" stiffnecks. After coming here for a few months, however, I've seen that many Libs are truly worse than they accuse us of being. You often can't tell them anything, even if you present facts and figures to back up your point. That's not rational. Perhaps in the past it was true that the Cons were closed-minded and uptight, but the pendulum has swung the other way in recent years. Must be a

Defrocked Priest Sentenced for Raping Boy By DENISE LAVOIE BOSTON (AP) - Defrocked priest Paul Shanley, a central figure in the Boston Archdiocese clergy sex abuse scandal, was sentenced Tuesday to 12 to 15 years in prison for raping a boy repeatedly in the 1980s, sometimes in a church confessional. ``It is difficult to imagine a more egregious misuse of trust and authority,'' Judge Stephen Neel said in imposing the term. You sound like Henny Youngman, minus the violin. Here's a few of my own faves, most from Rodney Dangerfield: "My wife wanted to put some spice back in our bedroom, and I agreed with her.... so she started goin' out with the pool guy!" Once when I was a kid, I got lost..I asked a cop to help me find my parents. I asked him, "Do ya think we'll ever find'em?" he said "I dunno, kid, there's so many places they could hide!" <

Before I begin here, let me preface this by saying that I am a Christian, and do believe very strongly in God. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins, and that He is coming back one day (maybe soon?) to take all His faithful to Heaven. That said, I'll vent a little frustration with my faith. My wife and I have some friends who believe VERY strongly; they're VERY devout.....their beliefs could even be considered puritannical. Their fa

You know what has been on my mind lately? Saddam was in power in Iraq for what? 30-some years? In that time, he tortured and murdered innocent people in droves, and lived like a czar in palaces furnished and decorated in obscene luxury and opulence while many of his people scratched and starved. He hoarded awesome sums of money, much of which he walled up in his palaces, and he and his family lived in hedonistic decadence to rival Caligula. In

How do we know the girls’ actions were of good will? I now you must be thinking that delivering cookies is quite benign, but what if they had been poisoned or the platter rigged to explode when picked up? We have heard of teens suddenly going berserk and killing without reason. We do not live in rational times. -

Can someone tell me why it is that the Democrats who spent the 1990s moaning about the sad state of social security and hoping against hope that someone would come along and do something to fix it, now say nothing is wrong with it and that it doesn't need any re-rigging? All is well, apparently, despite those decade-old predictions of insolvency by the end of the 21st century, which the current administration

This makes a lot of sense. In fact, that's something I'm going to do some thinking about. Thanks for your comments. You're very welcome....anytime.

I agree with both you and DrGuy.....anyone who would make use of any tragedy, especially one of such terribly epic proportions as the tsunamis, for comic purposes of any type and especially on a broadcast medium, is a sad excuse for a human being. But, if you start telling them they can't say "this", it's not long before you're told you can't say "that", then "this and that", and so on. Finally you can't say anything without permission, and

I wrote this report for a class I'm taking, and would like a little feedback from you JUers, if you wouldn't mind. We were told to write a report on the 1970s.....being the oldest in the class by probably 15 years at least, I had to laugh. I'm very likely the only one there with a clear memory of the 1970s. The sad thing (for me) is, I wrote this report off the top of my head in about 3 hours.....no research needed. ~~~sigh~~~ Just a glance at

Right . . . I can understand that . . . that must make commitment very difficult for you. Unfortunately (or fortunately) for me, that feeling sticks with me. I guess that's unusual, and makes for uneven relationships where I'm crazy in love and the other person is not feeling that. Yep....been there, do

I'm the same way, TW......I fall in love very easily, and it's very difficult for me to maintain those feelings during the storms and rough roads you're bound to endure in any relationship and/or marriage. I don't think I'm a superficial (or mentally/emotionally unstable) person, but It's cost me two marriages (so far). I have married yet again, a year ago, and fear sometimes that I made the mistake yet again

"AP--3rd-Graders Arrested for Their Drawings Two boys ages 9 and 10 in Ocala, Fla., have been arrested and charged with a second-degree felony for making primitive pencil-and-crayon stick figure drawings on scrap paper that depicted a 10-year-old classmate being stabbed and hung, reports The Associated Press. The problem here is that we've gotten bogged down in the idea of "ownership" of land. People have a right to live, and live peacefully, where they choose, within reason.
