Hmm I think when you boot by windows xp cd, you can press r for recovery console, just type fixmbr after logging in administrator account. If you can't go that far, then the harddrive is definely fried.
Looks like it had a head impact when it was reading and writing and it got powered down. Usually it means it's goner. Of course, you could run recovery console and run fixmbr but it's kind of advanced, and you have to have a administrator access.
