Some of us "right wingers" are quite familiar with Mr. Soros, even to the point of allying with him in certain political efforts. Believe it or not, this "right winger" endorsed and lent his name to the effort to legalize marijuana for medical use in Arizona, which was heavily underwritten by Mr. Soros. Interesting that some of the "liberal-minded" bloggers, who seem to be the most distressed by Bush's re-election, such as WiseFawn & dabe, are blogging away while blocking all comments (in the case of dabe, after I had posted one) and some (blogic) have just disappeared. I agree this is disgusting, but I'm not surprised. There has always been significant anti-American sentiment in Saudi Arabia (9/11 comes to mind) despite the diplomatic cooperation and economic ties between the countries. The article has as its underlying (false) premise that freedom and free markets are bad, or at least not worth the cost (free the markets, screw the people). I believe giving people freedom & the economic environment in which to succeed is a worthy endeavor and the majority of Iraqis have indicated they agree, so the article's agruments collapse for lack of a valid underpinning. Grim - You may be on to something. I grew up in Indiana. The 527's are a beautiful example of the law of unintended consequences. Perhaps it will occur to people that attempting to control political speech isn't such a good idea. Big money finds a way to attempt to influence elections no matter what. It should be out in the open for us all to see, but we don't need to tie ourselves in knots, paying a few million lawyers a few billion dollars for the privilege, just to end up essentially where we started.
