This was the subject of a reply of mine to Tatiora's October post on Windows 11 Updates that I think merits a separate thread. I've been advised by my tech support company to not install Windows 11 under any circumstances. A major reason for that is that I (and my office network) deal with protected health information and Windows 11 is not onl

To Victechnical's point, there are fundamental differences between the polio/smallpox type viruses and respiratory viruses that made it possible (once the technology evolved) to virtually eradicate the former. The relatively rapid mutation rate of all coronaviruses makes eradication virtually impossible. All we can do is mitigate against disease frequency, severity and duration, as is the case with influenza. Barring a miraculous breakthrough that we can't begin to imagine,
My belief is that getting COVID is now a matter of when, not if, now that this much more highly contagious (but fortunately less lethal) variant is exploding across the globe. Vaccinated folks will generally tolerate the illness much better; that's the nature of all vaccines for these respiratory viruses. I've seen a jump just this week in patients in my practice testing positive, all but one vaxed, none of whom are particularly sick; nearly everyone with a runny nose for more tha
Awesome, ID. Very happy for you but you'll be missed. All the best and stay safe out there.
Positive test results in the mildly ill and in the worried well are up (they count all positive tests as cases here, regardless of reason obtained or the presence or absence of symptoms), now at about the rate of July 2020, but well below (~50%) of the January 2021 peak. Both hospitalizations and deaths are even futher below the January 2021 peak, down about 60% & 70% respectively. There have been two recent wave peaks, one in September and one the first week of December.
Shouldn't that be Ty-Zip, BTW?[e digicons]:D[/e]
Not sure where the disclosure lives but I believe there is an initial throttle on posts/replies from new forum members. Gives the mods a chance to size the account up & screen for spam before turning them loose. Nothing personal.
I've been advised by my tech support company to not install Windows 11 under any circumstances. A major reason for that is that I deal with protected health information and Windows 11 is not only not HIPAA compliant but opens your computer to all kinds of background third party access. MS has decided to go the way of Facebook and make you the product which they will sell as the primary method of sustaining their business. The 'upgrade' may be free but orders of magnitude mor
I have owned Acrobat 9 for 5-6 years and have used it for .pdf document manipulation at least several times a month. Of course, Acrobat Reader DC has been around for a while now, too, and has a function that I use almost daily - Fill & Sign. These two applications, with different features & uses, co-existed on my rigs quite happily until about 3 weeks ago. Upon launching Reader DC one day, I was greeted with a message that my version had been automatically 'upgrade
I suspect this thread may offer some insight: https://forums.joeuser.com/508730/do-i-need-to-have-od-running-to-use-its-programs
Some (perhaps many) people have had unusual or odd experiences with ODM, apparently unique to their particular rig or setup. Inasmuch as ODM is entirely superfluous to the use of the individual apps in Object Desktop, if I were you I would simply uninstall ODM. To me (just my personal opinion) it's not worth the effort to try to 'make it behave' just for the sake of 'making it behave'. I've been a user of Object Desktop apps for 20 years and have never needed or used ODM (mu
The answer to your Title question is "No". Each of the individual apps (Curtains, Start10/11, Windowblinds, etc.) have executables that run independently. ODM does not need to be running for any of them to be used. ODM can (for some) be a convenient way to track the versions of the individual apps & keep them up to date, but that can be done separately through your store.stardock.com login as well.
I suppose congrats to Oz are in order for the Centre of National Resilience .
Short answer - No.
Then, if I were you, I wouldn't renew. In Stardock's defense, the way MS has implemented recent versions of the OS has significantly hampered SD's ability to modify the GUI via WB. Curtains has been a response to that, at least in part.
Following OZ's example, we are in the process of losing our collective minds of late. It's past time to end all forced COVID mitigation measures (which appear to have done little to control case rates, at enormous cost) and return to normal life. The pandemic is over & has been for some time. The currently circulating COVID strains are here to stay as an endemic illness, like influenza, with similar morbidity & mortality. Enough already.
Any good advice on VPN?
I have extensive experience with two, so FWIW: I purchased a lifetime 5-device license for VPN Unlimited a few years ago when it was on sale. Had issues with frequent dropped connections, multiple times a day, with disruption of my online work each time. I patiently waited through 4 or 5 "New, Improved" versions without the issue ever getting fixed (they always blamed the pr
Just when I was about to start to sorta like Edge, you do this to me, Seth. Back to Brave on Windows (which has a TOR option). Although Brave has an iOS app, I've been using DuckDuckGo browser; if I remember correctly, only because it got to the App Store first. DDG may be working on a Windows browser, which would be nice. For good measure, NordVPN on all my devices.
Shameless self-promotion! [e digicons][/e] These are beautiful, as expected. "Masterful" even.
Oz has lost its collective mind.
Not international, but within the US. The pandemic is not over, but the 'national health emergency' is. Has been for a while. With a very high percentage of the most vulnerable among us now vaccinated and such a large number of people who have had the illness & recovered, we are safe to resume normal life. The risk of death from COVID is now incredibly small and falling. The despots are just milking fear for all that it's worth.
Sorry to hear you had such a rough go, JanOscar. May you be blessed with a full recovery. Sooner than that.
I've been using Edge as my primary work browser for some time now and I like it as much as I like Brave, which is what I use at home, mainly out of inertia at this point. It seems to be one of the few things MS has done right lately. My work monitor is not wide enough for vertical tabs but I would use them on an appropriate monitor as vertical screen space is usually the thing that is at a premium.
Fingers crossed.
