does this mean that the user accounts area, the search pane, and the simple view of the control panel will also be skinned in .uis? or will they remain luna blue as well? and what about programs like photoshop 7 that take unique parts of the shellstyle and use it within their interface? (ie: the little round buttons in the upper right corner of palettes are out of the shellstyle)

what i'd like to know is why checking the 'adjust shadows for shaped windows' option (which sounds like a good idea) actually makes the shadow smaller by ~4 pixels per side?

nonono, i don't mean get a bunch of skinners together and have them all contribute something along a theme, i mean have the actual people that will be using the skin get involved in the process...1 skinner, many people giving input along the way... http://www.neowin.net/bboard/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20884&perpage=40&pagenumber=3 that should hopefully show you what i'm talking about, involving the community along the way, not just having a 'superstar skinners extravaganza' or som
has anyone ever actually tried making a skin by committee around here? i mean, i've done one skin that way, mostly because everyone and their brother expressed interest in it getting finished, and it was honestly a great feeling having people there through every step to help get some of the niggling details ironed out...but that was on neowin, where the community is a little tighter knit and more involved in general with those that skin... could something like that even be do
but then you raise the point of stagnation among users... i mean, like jcg said, the likes of treetog and alexandrie CAN go anywhere and upload something and have it rake in the comments and downloads and what have you. but is it more because the whatever is THAT amazing or that there's just name recognition? that was one of the big things that was raised before the guiolympics, remember, was of name loyality. some skinners worried, and rightfully so, that people wo
spider man was a comic book character before he was a live action 70's show and that was before he was a cartoon... besides, you're telling me you'd rather risk seeing jar jar binks again (yes he's in the second one) and george lucas' "hey, i'll make a movie for my kids, not for the fans" over a super hero torn between helping everyone and hanging up the tights because it's killing his aunt? give me personal conflict over a snot-nosed brat with a light saber anyday... now,
yeah, this http://www.sgi.com/fun/freeware/3d_navigator.html was it...sure beats packard bell's old 'navigator' interface with the rooms and the icons on shelves as far as usability goes...but 3d will never really take off without 3d inputs, a 2d mouse just wouldn't cut it efficiency wise
what about the filemanager that was used in jurassic park? it was for unix, anyone know what it was called? that at least seemed like it could be useful
pretty much any image format (within reason) you can open in internet explorer and right-click on and choose set as background. but if you use active desktop, saving as jpg, gif, png (should work), or bitmap in your windows/web dir and you should be good to go.
frankly, i'd like to see a new windowfx out before a new .x build of windowblinds...
all this talk about WB3.3 and DX1.1 coming out has made me kinda curious. Can we perhaps get some sort of product roadmap with an idea of when a few key builds of products are gonna be out? like for instance windowfx 2.x? windowblinds 3.x with uis3? windowblinds 3.x+1 with native vector format for uis3? windowblinds 3.x+2 with smart bars and examples? skincast 0.x? was just wondering and seeing if any of these have fallen by the way-side or something...hope not
alright, i bit.... firstly, let's go ahead and get the link here, so y'all can see the results...may as well open it in a new window so you can look at it and read this at the same time. meph's skinbench results adventure ride of fun now, up top you'll see the source data, and below that the graphs. i chose to do individual graphs per test since, well, they're individual tests so they should be shown seperately, as well as
see, by the title i thought this was going to be about windowblinds being like the pacific ocean to msstyles atlantic...twice as vast, get it?
i'm a moron, wrong link http://www.geocities.com/mephistocorugant/proof_of_concept.x
no, frogboy, i asked when does skinning a 3rd party app count as skinning windows? and no, the sarcasm before wasn't directed at you. it was mainly directed at jafo now, onto the matter at hand. i'm still gonna stick to my 15-20% of skins that just can't be reproduced in msstyles. now, just hear me out first... no, msstyles can't reproduce a windowblinds skin exactly. but, it can come to within 90% of it's core look. take metal x for example. this
well, looks like we can all go home then because now we know what a "real" skinner thinks... gimme a break i just took a browse through the 'winxp' skins here and notice that perhaps just 15-20% of them couldn't be ported to an msstyles skin without much trouble or loss in functionality... why's that you ask? simple, because they don't deviate far from the standard windows control layout. sure, there are exceptions, like spirit for instance (which i really l
damnit, can't edit...add the xp taskbar quicklaunch area as another 'not yet' skinned area of windowblinds, and groupbox headers as the same for msstyles...
alright, so, we're back to this i see... firstly, and what i feel is one of the major points that we're both dancing around, is the primer you wrote when wb 3 first came out. convenient link: http://www.windowblinds.net/xp/wb3advantages.html that is where all this stemmed from, most notably the 'windowblinds 3 fully skins windows xp' part of the document (in the title for all those playing along at home) now, i may just be completely deanse, but to me at lea
alright, i think we're in need of a visual aid... oh look, there just happens to be one right here! how nifty! http://www.angelfire.com/nt2/mephistocorugant/webview.html that, gentlemen and ladies, is how i see these two skinning options, with windows classic as a nice baseline. THAT is the direction i'm coming from with all this, not as an msstyle fanboy as i'm thinking jafo assumes, not as a completely unknowledgable person... and, just an aside, b
has anyone here actually MADE an msstyles skin? do y'all even know what can and can't be done with them aside from the obvious 'it can't skin menus' or 'you can't have odd shaped windows or borders bigger than x pixels'? i mean, it's one thing to be like apple and say that 'the competition' doesn't matter because they don't have the amount of class that apple does, but it's another to have competition sitting right there and just turn a blind eye to it and not admit that there's actual
is this thread locked or something? anyways, just wanna get my main gripe in here (as it's been since windowblinds 3 came out, and brad you know this) it's the referring to windowblinds as fully skinning windows xp. sure, theoretically it can, but, the skin definitions and such need to be updated to reflect that (i know, i know, next build, but still...it's hard to wait when windowblinds is playing catchup in amount of things skinned yet still has stuff like hyperpaint to make

i personally would blame circus midgets, grab a beverage, and try and drink the bad memories of this "computer" that you speak of away oh, and make sure you're using an ata100 cable (cableselect is a BAD THING) and see if there's a bios update like griffinme said
uh, guys, he may just be referring to the normal windows classic color schemes. if that's the case, http://jotenet.cjb.net has something called 3d color changer that will do what you want. ...least, that's how i'm reading it
