Actually, I would like it even without a countdown because it makes espionage more useful. However, I think there should be an option to continue playing the game even after someone wins (a la civ), to prevent people from getting upset when their game suddenly ends.

Brad, you guys amaze me....always looking at what is on players minds. I was just thinking about this on my way to work because of some of the other threads, and had some ideas similar to a combination of your first and second post. Here's my thoughts: - I like the idea of a starbase maintenance fee. These things can't just float around space without an associated cost, can they? - Please no fee by module, and no limit to the number of bases per sector. We should be a
I think the idea of knowing the UP vote a turn before it occurs is great! Certainly would add another strategic element to the game?
Played it back in the OS/2 days and been waiting for a windows version ever since OS/2 went under.
Good point uruguru. The only thing I would add is that it then becomes important for stardock to make AI modifications based on the scores at each map size. Otherwise we'll end up with an AI tuned to gigantic map sizes only.
Can't search, so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but: When you have two constructors as a fleet in the same space and build a starbase with one of them, the other one is stuck "underneath" the starbase. It doesn't automatically upgrade the starbase, and you can't move it.
I too would like to understand the formula a little better. When I look at the metaverse scores, it appears that galaxy size is a rather large modulator. Also, it would be good to see difficulty level information in the metaverse score details.
Personally, I'm finding the random events unbalancing as well. Just finished playing a game where in the first two UP votes, my neighbor built two of the space creature zoos. Wouldn't you know it, not too much later both of them broke free and ravaged both his planets and mine. The monsters were way too powerful for either of us to defend against in the early game (90 hp, 30 attack). Not a chance. While random events are good, they should be scaled by map size and time to prevent them from destr
