Reading the Galciv 2 concept thread on the GC1 forum I came across some interesting ideas from Gabriel Gauthier which got me thinking. I'd love to see more cause and effect to diplomacy. I'd like to see lots more diplomatic interaction where relations between races can be improved or damaged through random or real events. For example, I'd like to see - pop-ups from another empire offering to connect a trade route to my empir

Remember that the aid is actually primarily towards those still alive and affected by the tradegy not to the dead. So that's 2-3 million people who are homeless. As for why the US has now increased it's intial pledge to levels similar to other countries and is so active in making sure that it does not appear in any way to be stingy (and i would not suggest it was), I believe that Powell said it best, Muslims had "an opportunity to see

England is too much a party system for Tony to be defeated. In the UK people vote for the party more than the individual, so while many feel that Tony is a liar and should not be prime minister they still like Labour more than the Conservatives. I too would hope for a shift in support towards the liberals. I expect labour to lose quite a lot of seats as many labour voters in the last election did just vote for Tony. They may switch votes back to the co

I think you're being far to hard on China. You have to realise what $62 will buy in China. This is in a country where even 1/10 the US average wage is considered rich. So, to the average Chinese person $62M is equilivent to $620M to a US person. This also converts to military issues. The average sodier is paid far less, the cost of materials is far less, the cost therefore of home built tanks and planes is therefore far less. China may be muc

the US is stingy and selfish and doesn't do enough for the world This is a matter of personal opinion and should matter to nobody except for Americans themselves. What they give is a matter for them and them alone. Any aid is a bonus not a right. Personally I don't believe this to be true and the UN mad

Nice to see people even use natural disasters as another excuse for UN bashing. Is no loss of human life sacred that people try to use it for political purposes? You've picked the wrong subject though. The UN has a very strong record in disaster relief having coordinated and organised the relief effort in countless humanitarian disasters. The most recent major disaster was the Iran earthquake where the UN has done excellent work. The UN is a

For gun control to have any effect you need to actually remove the guns already there and ensure that the law is nationwide. I don't think that is possible in the US to ever achieve this. Your right to bear arms comes with higher crime and deaths rates and you'll just have to live with it. Just look at crime figures in countries like the UK (where firearms are illegal) to see the true effect of gun control. Paul.

I suspect this whole area of sub 12 PQ planet usage will be fine tuned and played heavily during beta testing before the right balance between fun, challenge and micro management is found. Paul.

Most of the world's population was exempted from Kyoto This is indeed true, but most of the world's polluters were not exempt. The only noticeable exceptions were China and India. India pollutes about 1/8 of the US total greenhouse gas quantity while china pollutes almost 1/2. I know that the US really

Personally I would be surprised if Kofi was personally involved in any of the scandal. That said however I believe that he should have a level of responsibility for major scandals that occur under his watch. If the enquiry shows that there was a failure of senior management to do their jobs (such as supervising those below them) then I do believe that Kofi should leave for the good of the UN. . I personally find it very hard to see how Kofi c

The US pollutes more per capita or in total. Swapping the two makes no difference. Only per GDP does the US not show as the greatest polluter, and this is just because the US has the largest GDP. It still means the US is the largest polluter of greenhouse gases. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=#FFF394 class="mb-Body-Quote-Tab

And just who would these crack special forces attack? If the US had any proof of who carried out such henious crimes they would happily send in the normal military to do the job. The problem is that these terrorists mix into the normal populatino and any foreigners stand out in the normal population and can therefore not collect the informatino needed. A better suggestion would be to sit 100 spy satilletesover Iraq and record everythi
