So your sister's "fella"...they're not married I take it? He sounds immature to be making such a scene over every attractive female figure who crosses his path. If he can't curtail his ogling of other women while he's with his own gal, even out of respect for her, then he's got a long way to go on the path to maturity. Don't know what else is going on in their relationship... My husband really appreciates the female form too. One time while h

"parenting with purpose"...in other words not just reacting to whatever behaviors your child throws at you, What a compliment! I'll be honest though, I wrote this to capture a rare successful moment in parenting. We do plenty of "reactive parenting" too. You know, stuff like, "Stop screaming!" or, "Qu

I can't even think about a potty chair without gagging. hahahahahaha Yeah, we had to break down and get a chair for him to use downstairs because all of our bathrooms are upstairs. Go figure. But he's a pro at using the big'uns too. I prefer it! I never have to see (or touch) a thing! And yes, revisitin

Getting kids to do chores is not harmful, it's a learning experience for them. I'm always trying to think back to my childhood...I don't think I was ever taught to clean...I simply enjoyed it! Like your youngest, I LOVED to vaccum, clean the whole house, make things shiny, and my room was usually super-

I've been taking a peek at this thread over the past couple of days...thinking, "I could never budget for groceries." Our tastes are lazy and expensive. Frozen dinners, Kid Cuisines, brand name cereal, fresh produce, you name it. Oh, and we eat out at least a few times a week. But my husband just called to inform me that our next few paychecks are going to be precisely $120.00 each. That amounts to living on $360.00 for the next two months. Gas, groceries, & bills all need to come from

Funny how when you have sex, in that moment of pleasure you don't realize that you're asking for a lifetime of work. Or adopting the mindset of a preschool teacher. Or a chef. Or a housekeeper. Or an ever-patient, loving, understanding perfect mommy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I woke up this morning (way too early

Mason this is a fascinating topic, so I'll be sure to read the articles that inspired this thought. (Can you leave us a link to the article(s)?) I'm constantly baffled at my own perception of the world. It's definitely skewed and I HATE IT! I marvel, for example, at people the likes of Tonya who "crossed over" from one paradigm into a healthier one. That's amazing to me, since I have such a hard time shaking the similarly weird childhood lessons that formed my foundation. Rel

So I'm going through some of your older articles that I haven't seen yet. You're a strong lady. Sheesh, the life you've lived. This particular article about people simply WATCHING others in harm's way reminds me of this Link Also on this topic, in first aid class we learned that when we're witnesses to a tragic event and everyone else is just WATCHI

OK, a sleepless night for Angela and finally I can get back to this article that I read forever ago What stood out to me about this article was your description of your childhood adventures, wholly unattended by adults. I loved it! I saw it in two lights: 1) From the perspective of a modern mommy who has a bizillion laws to adhere to...never letting my child out of

I think it's the money that motivates these women. Do women really get paid to do that? Talk about working from home Sign me up. Oh wait, this womb is occupied. Maybe later.

What a gorgeous little girl! I love that last picture with her looking up at you(?) On another note, that first year sure is hard work, isn't it?

but we didn't live in each other's pockets. I learned a long time ago that being overfriendly with your neighbor can be a recipe for disaster. I'm glad you put that into words. I've been having trouble figuring out why I feel so uncomfortably close to our own neighbors, but what you said pretty much s

What happens to all frozen food? We're accumulating a large stash of MRE's. Water-tight, no need for refrigeration or cooking... If death comes to me by drowning or gunshot it will be relatively quick, but I'd hate to die slowly of starvation if grocery stores were no longer available. But we'll still be screwed because we don't h

I guess I took this article seriously. I agree there are TOO MANY RULES these days. It's so hard for kids to have fun anymore. I'd love for my child to run freely throughout the neighborhood and play like I did in the 70's, but the law forbids it now. GRRRR. The last couple days I've been re-reading the Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn books...now THAT'S what I call a fun, creative childhood!

If you do it for attention, and expect instant attention at once, you will struggle. I have a friend who I introduced to JU over a year ago and she posted a few articles...got next to no comments, and she quit. She's a great writer too and I was sad to see her stop so quickly. Maybe she was doing it for

While many of us have romatic ideas about living in those times, the truth is that it was a harsh and difficult life that many of us today would be very hard pressed to cope with. I'd love to live that life. I do have romantacized notions about it, but I also know that life would be very difficult and m
