Are you using SP1? Logonstudio Vista seems to have a problem on SP1-systems with the version which is installed through Impulse. If yes; install the version which is available through SDC (Stardock Central). This one reportetly works on SP1.

Electro seemed to be able to solve the problem by uninstalling - rebooting - re-installing WB. Have you tried that? I just downloaded and applied 'AeroGlassV5' from the link you provided. On both system (Vista64 and XP SP3) the skin applies normally, and I don't have any black in the start-menu at all. Your 8500 GT shouldn't have any problems running that skin. What drivers are you using?

I just updated my XP-laptop yesterday, and didn't experience any problems with WB. Although I have to say that I first updated to SP3 and then installed Impulse and updated my WB through it (up to that moment I had only ever used SDC on my XP-system). Maybe uninstalling and reinstalling through Impulse might do the trick? Also, I noticed that the SP3 update (again!) switched on my Windows-Firewall, which caused a clash with my Commodo-Firewall. Maybe WB can't activate

It must be really only a HP thing, as my Sony laptop (AMD Mobile 2200) didn't have any problems during and after the SP3 install.

Even though you don't want to hear it: Upgrade through SDC or Impulse (install either of them if you don't have them). I say that because some of your files are out of whack (showing newer versions than are really released) namely: Wbload.exe 2008/04/26 16:14:14 Wbhelp.dll 2008/04/26 16:14:07 Wbui.dll 2008/04/26 16:14:05 Tray.dll 2008/04/26 16:14:21 Screen.exe 2008/04/26 16:14:18 They definitively don't have the same date on my XP system....

Your argument for not installing the alpha has always been: "I don't want to install a beta-program (Impulse) just to try out an alpha version." ..well, Impulse is no longer beta and works like a charm on non-proxy systems. Why don't you do us all a favor and install impulse and then upgrade OD+ to the newest version to see if some (or all) of your bugs are resolved? You could actually do something constructive and give more feedback to the developers instead of rantin

Bootskins in XP can only be of a real low resolution (I believe its 640 x 480)and only in 16 colours. Those limitations are due to the fact that at the moment Bootskins gets displayed on your screen, windows hasn't loaded yet (obviously), and can't take full advantage of your graphics card yet. Have a look at the previews of the Bootskins you downloaded (just click onto the thumbnails) and see whether they look different there than on your system. You will see that they look rather coar

I have never encountered the problem of button switching, but I have noticed that sometimes the program decides to show the grid and the perimeter circles around the ships, no mattter what I have told it to show in the settings tab. Next time I start up my computer and my SoaSE, I might not be able to use the group function for ships anymore, or everything might work as expected. Zubaz is correct. Enhanced File Dialogue is not Vista ready. As Vista does a similar thing natively (you can drag any folder/location to the left side inside a save/open dialog), I don't know whether it will be developed for Vista at all (wouldn't make much sense to do so).
