On the logitech control panel or mouse properties it should have number 6 as universal scroll.Change it to middle mouse in the buttons/modify section.

RTW has the worst A.I diplomacy of any 4X game in memory. The A.I also has massive economy cheats and it's still lousy. After you win your 200th battle in a row without even coming close to losing, i can't really say that RTW is all that much fun really.Still, the eye candy seems to impress some folk, because RTW is just that, eye candy.
I agree with Frogboys assessment that 4X games should be about building the strongest civ,not tactical gimmick battles. The 4X games that have tactical combat like Rometotalwar,SEIV are joke in the A.I department anyway, making it an exploit. You can never lose
The default button is universal scroll for the middle.I changed it to middle button and it tilted fine.
Make the home planets already developed at teh start.Problem solved.
Part of the strategy in a strategy game is to look after your economy! I tend to play on large maps with all 10 A.I's and just past the quarter stage of the game, with an average size empire. There is so much money around, that it actually starts to become an irrelavant factor in gameplay for both A.I and humans players,in my view.
With the A.I trading all the tech so easy, everybody gets them after a few turns anyway.
I have no problem with the week invasions. At this galactic scale using future tech, the main defensive force of a planet could be wiped out that fast. The abstraction part of games in this scale, is the armies land on the planet and continue to fight smaller insurgencies for a long time, hence transports gone. I would like to have invasions factored into planets.I would like to see lower influence and morale on invaded planets, and only for a limited time, a mines value for all planet t
I agree, this is small scale stuff for divisional commanders. You can abstract this stuff into the planet improvements, in your imagination.Everything and the kitchen sink was tried before, it was called MOO3,lol.
The game is not about just getting the tougher unit like in Civ.The game has fleets, many smaller cruisers would smash a battleship(Bismarck, etc), there is also research to improve the power of your ships, a low tech battleship would struggle vs a high tech smaller ship. The game also factors attack weapons and defence.Mass driver vs armor, beam vs shields, missile vs point defence. There are many factors that these "threads" you talk about don't consider.I have the beta and it works superb.
"Anyone who has actually played GalCiv II, and I wonder if those complaining about dice rolls have even played it, realize that given enough rolls, that the system works out very well. It is not as if A and B roll one time. A and B may roll 10 or 20 times and when you average it out, there isn't very much randomness in outcomes." From the designer Draginol.
What the hell are you talking about. All strategy games have slight dice roles. It works well.
Does the A.I take into consideration the combined military strength of an alliance when deciding war with them, or just the single civ of the alliance he has designs on?
Bit Disapointed there won't be a final A.I enhanced public beta.It would help pre-order sales immensely having all these guys praise the military A.I.
The new alliance system will allow that. https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=96354
Mines in space! just the vast, humongous distances between stars makes it very unlikely mines would just happen to be placed on a fleets course. It is just not economically viable to mine space that big.We aint talking the english channel here, lol. Talk about Spacempires4, which had everything you could think of in military terms, but it also had a dire A.I because of the 1000 options. You couldn't lose the game.
Trade goods seem very undervalued by the A.I in Beta5,not even worth a standard research most of the time.
Espionage needs looking at, it is very easy to get full info on every civ with lowest payments early, that stay the whole game even when you put it down to zero moneys.Seems way to easy and cheap to get results in this area.Kind of makes the espionage skill seem pointless. The A.I doesn't use espionage at all.
There is an option to skip space battles.I think it looks great.
The manual states the only borders are your planets. The coloured borders you see on the map, are your influence borders.
The A.I doesn't always use the planet specials. On many invaded worlds i'll see special approval tile with labs or factorys on it,ect.
I have my 30 fleets stacked near their territory and the A.I will build fleets to counter? I would very impressed if the A.I did that.
I'm happy about this. This was a big beef for me in the beta.
I would love to see stealth subs being introduced for the trade war, each civ could build them, but only to attack trade convoys deep in enemy space.
The manual states the only borders in the game are your planets. The borders on the map are your influence borders. You have no right to claim empty space. The cultural game is to fight over the influence borders with culture starbases. If have a mechanism to stop cutlure bases near your planets, you kill the culture side of the game. The other option is war. Tough.
