I know next to nothing about setting up these alternate shells, other getting some LiteStep themes, that didn't need any config changes done, working. What I want to do is (in XP, BTW) is replace my shell with something like Litestep/HoverDesk/Aston or whatever. I want to run that shell with either no theme at all or, at most, a right-click popup menu (iTunes brushed metal, preferably, if I MUST have one), and then do everyhthing else shell related with DesktopX, ObjectDock, and Object

Joe: yeh.... I thought of that after I posted... It's Monday. I'm a little slow today!

Well, if all you're looking for is eye-candy (ie: themes), as a longtime ODN subscriber, I agree. what ODN doesn't have is a true shell replacement! I want to run that shell with either no theme at all or, at most, a right-click popup menu (iTunes brushed metal, preferably, if I MUST have one), and then do everyhthing else shell related with DesktopX, ObjectDock, and ObjectB
Jarget: It does work! Under the "Layers" menu, you should see "Properties," and the opacity slider is there. I just set it my new background and seperator PNGs to 52% (for MY taste ) and it looks GREAT. DixonHill: Thanks for the info! I, too, have PSP7, have used PSP for years, but mostly just for simple photo cleanup, etc. As a result, I wasn't sure about layers usage. Glad my pre
Jarget Yeh...same here. I tried it AFTER I posted. Looks like I had my head up my anal cavity when I said that... It sure SEEMED like a good idea at the time. Mebbe someone with more experience with bitmaps can tell up how? I don't mind the background being opaque, but would rather make it partially transparent.
Jarget: I'd try editing the background.png in a photo/paint app to make it transparent. I dunno if I'd call just changing 2 pngs "skinning," myself! I personally found that the metallic background .55 was too dark to match the metallic in the Object Bar I use, so took the BMP from the Bar, changed the size and saved it as background.png. It looks much better to me. I also hated the new sepe
This little beauty is an example ofwhy I am happy to be a paying ODN user: very useful apps that are also lovely eyecandy! My OSX-look system is finally complete! As far as my needs go, all I need is the option to auto-hide the dock, or at least make "always on top" an option.
Well, with all the new business after being featured on "The ScreenSavers", they probably needed the chance to catch their breath, anyway!
Reaper: Yeh, kinda what I figure, but I hope they explain exactly HOW, anyway. Odds are, though, I''ll end up subscribing anyway, so the question is moot. I''ve been a ODNT subscriber for 2 years, yet think the subscription fee for WC is fair. I''m sure I''ve downloaded more 50 megs myself in that time! I think the ODNT subscription is fairly just for the apps and ALL upgrades. If you added in the cost of bandwidth for all the skins I''ve downloaded, something tells me it would
Nice to know that as a subscriber to ODNT I get unlimited downloads! Uh...how do I make my subscriber status a part of my profile?
