Hehe. Sounds like Astax is a better Civ player than Moo2 player @ LordJPhillip You ever tried moo2-MP with kali or hamachi? Dont remember your nickname. Your post about the time devoted by the Developers to other programs instead of this one made perfect sense. I am sorry that not everyone can readily understand sarcasm as a tool f

(MOO2 was too unstable) the win version of moo2, i.e. orion95.exe was pretty unstable and laggy like hell (up to minutes between turns). And I assume you tested this version. The dos version, i.e. orion2.exe is pretty stable and 1v1 is playable up to 5ways (different continent

You dont need DosBox or similar things. The 1.4 patch generates a shortcut with the optimal settings. I just find that the game becomes too predictable to quickly (it sucks to never risk lossing) Obviously true against the AI. After a few months you will observe the same with GalCiv2 when the current top-notch players provide some detailed strategy guides....(just look metaverse right now) That's why I just play

Hi, 99% of moo2 cds contain both versions. If not check out steps 3 and 4 in this link: http://masteroforion2.blogspot.com/2004/02/moo2-online.html add rkernel.com and take the 1.31 zip patch which contains the missing dos files. You find here detailed install instructions of the new 1.4 patch by LordBrazen: <a href="http://lordbrazen.blogspot.com/2005/01/master-o

They need to realise that it's much better to attack than defend. I dont think the AI should be changed here. I dislike the game mechanism that the attacker has the first shot with his WHOLE fleet. IMO the game mechanism should be changed here. Seek and destroy and engage at any price isnt really an interesting aspect of a strategy game. I like to have a more difficult choice between engage or not engage. Actually moo2 had

I will take exception to "the AI is pretty bad" though. Pretty bad compared to what? Pretty bad compared to UberCitizens xflukex and Freudian. And btw where can I sign up for the MP extension? Would like to kick their butts. I have several buddies who wont purchase the game without MP. Can they sign up too? And we dont want the complicated internet "realtime" thingi (whatever this is I dont think anyone wants it) just a normal LAN MP extension. With tools like <a hr

Modding 0 5 5 Thats a bit harsh. What kind of moo2 mods do you miss? I am mainly interested to balance techs and techtree and this can be done easily by the OCL editor.

And as for the AI and ship battles...... I dont know if you and I were playing a different MOO2 or something but that was by far the weakest aspect of MOO2 I agree that the AI is pretty weak there. The combat system itself (without AI) is pretty brilliant. And the design decisions between ship attack and ship defense components seems to be more balanced than in the current GalCiv2 which suffers because of the 1-shot-for the attacker p

What and all MP players aren't self-centered but instead altruistic players wanting only the best for humanity? Rubbish, when I spend my money and time its just that, mine. I work extremely hard in a busy, loud, "people rich" job and have a very limited leisure time to indulge myself. The last thing I want to do with engage with more people (especially strangers who drop in and out of games or never show up) instead I want a bit of "me" time.

@ #86 by Citizen Taran Wanderer „Don't get me wrong - MOO2 is one of my favorite games of all time - I played the heck out of it single-player. But it was a darn shame the multiplayer code was so unstable. If they had fixed that, I'd probably still be playing that game with friends even today.“ You have prolly tried the win version (orion95.exe) which is pretty unstable and lags like hell. Moo2 was developed for Dos and they just made it compatible with win95.

here is my favorite moo3 bash thread: http://www.neuro-tech.net/archives/000005.html MOO3 sucks. Master of Orion 3 sucks. Let me say that again - Master of Orion 3 sucks. It is literally one of the worst games I've ever played......... .............................................. Really, it suxx so hardcore. I bought it for 5 euro...and i feel still ripped off. most idiotic UI ever. poorest tactical combat ever. I reinstall

@ leggende There is still the option to play mp-moo2 online with your buddies..(or some other "strangers" lol).. I guess most moo2 fans are unaware of this, you find some details here: http://masteroforion2.blogspot.com Look for the Kali guide there. I have finished hundreds (or even thousands) moo2 mp games successfully.

@ VagabondNomad thx for your background info. I agree with your nice posts! (especially any reference to the moo3-junk is a red herring.) ...and the way these guys here aggregate preferences...unbelievable.

I surely wont buy it without MP-option. For those who said "moo2 multiplayer wasnt optimal". With the new 1.4 patch (developed by LordBrazen) dos-version (orion2.exe !) Multiplayer works fine. Even online. (The win version orion95.exe is laggy like hell. Therefore we just use dos.) You find the details here: http://masteroforion2.blogspot.com (Look for the kali guide there) There are at moment roundabout 50 active players on kali. In the last 2 ye
