Neat idea Patrick24. I think that's more appropriately called "theming", it is definitely simpler for most people. I do a lot of my DesktopX work in red then just adjust the colours myself. Haven't scripted anything in that allows people do do it easily but, if you look at the widget in builder mode most people could easily adjust it. Brad started a thread yesterday about making Widgets simpler. I'm a Xion fan but, not really an avid computer music user. Also, since I do my graphics in

I sort of agree with separate skins for different types of widgets but, I'm just wondering if some sort of plugin ability wouldn't be easier. For example in the standard right click menu the user would have the options of "default skin" or "Windowblinds UI"? My main issue with the different "base" type widgets/gadgets is the restrictions that would be placed on design. What's to happen when someone designs a non-rounded rectangle widget/gadget?

Wanted to here people's suggestions for one feature in this Widget I'm working on. In the goals section you add up to ten goals with each goal having a dollar value, sort of an incentive to "Butt Out". The question is this. Currently, the progress is calculated very simply without taking other goals' value into mind...like this: Savings to date = $16.80 Goal 1 $8.40 so, you can pay for it Goal 2 $16.80 so, you can pay for it Goal 3 $33.60 so, you can pay for 50%<b

Ok. I lied not intentionally. Having some issues with the Security Suite so will do those in separate widgets. Also, learned a lesson. This has been the first time I designed functionality before graphics which really creates a number of issues. This will be my first Widget. I call it "Butt Out" to help quit smoking. 1,2, & 3 are initial states. Minimal, Minimal 2 then on first open. 4 Is savings calculator. 5 & 6 are settings windows with the latter showing off Thomassens' Text Con

Just a thought. I've played around with more than a few activeX components (not Stardock). Maybe you should think about setting on option on first run for the end user to permanently place/register the activex. Not sure if it really would be noticeable in regards to resource usage but, maybe will prevent any gadget operating glitches. Just my two cents.

Unfortunately, SimAquarium has been my most recent distraction. This would make a great gadget! I'm working on a big widget or gadget...haven't decided yet. It's basically a Security Suite - keyfile & password generator, text & file encryption/decryption. It's naked as I'm still working out the functions, etc. <img src="http://img518.

Murex, your solution lies in using masks but, since I'm too lazy to elaborate here's a couple of mine from my addins library. Get it at sendspace

Agreed Zoomba also we need to keep in mind that the reason some of these questions seem vague could possibly be someone who's first language is not English. To answer the actual question. No, there is no equivalent freeware. You can come close by piecing various programs together but, that's really only maybe 50% there. The only freeware program that "applies" skins is Styler which is no longer under development or supported.

Maybe the forms/widget preferences is a good idea? Setting/receiving data using forms and widget preferences. Edit: I need to refresh before I post! Sounds like a good idea Roman
