Brad, Played OS/2 version years ago while visiting a friend. Am not in the Alpha.

This aspect, IMOHO, is an important one if the theory of multiple paths to conclusion is to be more than just paid lip service to. In an economic path, it seems to me there needs to be a posibility for a strong economic/production base. Just saying planet X is worth 23 or 30 points but giving few specifics as to how it is earned leaves it pretty dull. If I had the opportunity to send spies/stealth fleet over to your system and selectively take out your orbital whatchagafluzits on wh
Maybe I'm expecting too much from this game? If requiring obital construction facilities "...slows down game flow..." and all people want to do is rush to the next star system and crush the dudes over there, then why not dispense with ships all together and imagine some "Stargate" thing to get your stormtroopers there instantly. But make sure there is only one or two mouse clicks needed to do this as there is another system to the left that needs getting to. :VOMIT: Tongue in c
Shipyards-Yes! Also, how about mobile shipyards self propelled or towed/carried. Also, repair ships at a later stage of devel. to tag along with a fleet for repairs. Is supply lines a thing to be considered with this game? If so, maybe full repair isn't an option if lines are cut... How about orbital defense platforms with various abilities and also other orbital goodies like science stations, habitats, food farms, power generators, mining smeltors?
There will still be lots of minor races though, right? Like in Star Trek, there are only 7 or 8 major races and then hundreds which only control one or a few systems. I like that idea, and I think it is logical with how galactic colonization/population ends up. Just take a look at how we manage on this planet. Several major players and a bunch of minor ones which usually maintain themselves by being too expensive or valuable to dispense with.
I know in MoOII and other games the movement of your ships depends on several different tech. researches. Nav., Fuels, and Engines. This seems to work pretty well. It seems that hull size availibility determining which systems a ship can use is also an important factor in ship movement. I like the idea of acheiving certain levels of range based on what has been researched/found/stolen or the size of what I'm able to build based on facilities, civilization and certain tech levls. <
Couldn't respond earlier-ISP was down. I notice the two pages only occures with Java Script Enabled. I've always gotten the change of page before. Using Netscape Communicator 4.5-like the mail options over that of 4.7.
BTW...Has anyone noticed what happens when you click on someone's underlined name? I get two pages of the same info. Is this a provision for later, added stuff, or something else?
Just testing to see if what "they" say about the squeaky rotating firgnatz getting the pressed mulo juice. Doesn't seem to be working, yet. LOL
I thought the whole point of you folks being independant was to produce the games you want to play, not being content with the junk out there now. I've played several games with cheating AI's and they are the ones collecting dust in the corner. Guess that's why most of my board wargames have been gotten rid of- no one wants to use their noodle enough to give you a good run of competition, or spend the time required, maybe? I think an interesting-and underated- AI is that used in Age Of

All references to "Leutenant" should be updated to the correct form of "Lieutenant".
Meant to add- An upgrade and/or recycle ability would be useful. ;)
How about sending the ship on extreme, long range mapping missions until they stop coming back? Or using the ship to probe enemy defenses?
I guess the whole premise of some solar blocking blanket assumes the folks on the planet have no means to get rid of it. If that's the case, something more like a giant mylar type of mirror you could aim at their cities or habitation sites or a specific pathogen aimed at them and whatever other critters there you didn't want around after you move in would be more efficient. But, if you did give the planet the Big Freeze, you could have the reverse side of the blanket mirrored, move it to the sid
Actually, a year without sunlight would kill most of a planet's life, but not all. If you are talking about an Earth-like planet with similar forms of life. Many things, like large conifers, or animals under the sea living from chemical/thermal vents Would survive. Oceans would retain most of their heat for a year. Besides, if you did not want to have to ship in food for the colonist on your new, barren planet after you remove the blanket, why not have them plant some crops? You could send steal
I'm reading lots of comments from the "Fortunate Few" on specific problems with game components, but find no comments on playability, flow or just plain FUN factor. Is this something those of us who have to wait 'till May should be concerned with?
I cut my advanced game playing teeth on old AH games like Luftwaffe and Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich, so turn based play is for me. Real time, I agree, has a place, but I have yet to find one which lets me use my joystick-now collecting dust- for what it was designed for. Why would I want to "fly" a starship with my keyboard?
Me 4! Me 4! (Urgently pleading...) (:(
Ships look good!
