I bit the bullet and installed FlyakiteOSX on this machine, tweaking things to try to minimize the resource hit. I see now that it installs its own version of shell32.dll to create "true" system folder icons. Again, on my office computer, I used FlyakiteOSX to change the icons (which I don't want to do on this machine because it adds too much additional overhead), but other programs see the folders in the changed state, not the Windows default state, including Word and the other programs I alluded to here.
After using different programs, I realize none of them see the folders as blue (as Explorer does and Iconpackager thinks it has set according to the Mac OSX theme). If I use MS Word, for example, and choose open, it displays the folders as default yellow. Thus, I don't think IP is setting the folder icon correctly. I tried reapplying Windows default and then reapplying the Mac OSX theme in IP but I get the same results. I see quite a few other posts that seem to have similar proble
