Merry Christmas, everyone who celebrates the occasion. Have a happy and safe Holiday [for those who get one]. And a happy New Year [that should apply to most using the same calendar] ....;)

The story goes that once the rank got to five dots for Master people couldn't count past that...ran out of fingers...so they changed beyond to yellow from 6 to 9 rankings as 1 to 4 ...;)

You know you're getting old when you can say "52 years ago I saw Hair". Today, I saw Hair again. This time I was 'front and centre', and dang it was good. The previous time meant I was sweating out the dates and times for my potential Conscription, and the Musical was pretty darn relevant. Part of the Architecture 'Sociology' course was to sit in on a County Court trial of a Draft-Dodger.... In '72 I had a beanie my mum knitted and I sewed in a peace si
I wanted to know what you think of Opatch? Namely, is it safe to deal with these guys? As in giving them my credit card details and not have to worry about being scammed or that they will give those details to third party users and that their updates work reliably.
I've been with 0patch for several years [maybe about 5...will have to check]... safe as houses. I started with the free ver and realized what was happening and quickly changed to full...no

If you search a gallery from oldest to newest and just ignore the past few years the vast majority will be 'real', but there will be such things as Fractals, etc that were computer made... and I remember people doing 3D generations that took days to compile, even 20 years ago plus. Going through the galleries to retro-actively separate Computer-Gen from 'real' art is unlikely ever to happen...;)
I have the Fences Tabs in the top of my screen, all windows I open are positioned below the Fences Bar.
The issue is not whether the tabs are visible 'around' open windows, ie on the same 'screenshot' of desktop real estate. The issue is about what is called Z-Order. The OS design of the GUI that has the wallpaper on the lowest level of what is visible, then the Windows Icons [and Fences], then inactive/
So I'm getting cataract surgery. Right eye tomorrow and left eye next week. I'd love to hear if any of you have had this surgery and what it was like to go through. Did your vision improve?
My sister had both done a few weeks ago [with a gap]. The strange thing is she's an artist [eg Archibald Prize finalist] and now she says it's the first time she can 'really' see colour....;)
For my issue with Fence 5 I was on Windows 11 and I'm still on Windows 11. I upgraded from 23h2 to 24h2 this summer and Fence 5 started to have some issues. I tested version 6 trial and it was ok.
Yes, that's an example of the OS forced-changes by Microsoft requiring Stardock to continue to redevelop the programs to keep pace. If you look at the gaps between version releases they correspond pretty well with
I use PowerToys "Mouse Pointer Crosshairs" quite frequently, which sounds like what you were trying to create.
It wasn't a 'try'...I did do it...but simply dropped it due to its lag...;) Found it.... made 2 months before Wincustomize was founded .... Jan, 2001 ...;)

Once upon a time I made a 'cursor' which was 2 lines...1 vertical and 1 horizontal as a 'cross' that could pan over the screen like crosshairs. Needless to say the 'cursor' had to be twice the size of the screen resolution in both axes, and was one massive drag on performance.... and that was probably when the screen res was 800x600 [XGA]. Systems these days are faster...but screen res is bigger...probably same drag..... ;)
Sorry to disagree Jafo. But that's exactly what the 'Show Fences' button in taskbar does
Yes, that's the other trick I mentioned...being able to focus to the desktop icons via fences...tricking the Z-order rules. That's enabled by a specific button, not an effect of a mouse-over/rollup change. The key controlled focus defines what takes the cursor attention - the whole reasoning behind the Z-order
Don't worry, I won't be bothering y'all any time soon. I've got better places to be with friendly, courteous people to interact with.
So no compassion about the very real problems that struck all of Stardock quite seriously. It's all about you, then. I'm just a little disappointed in the attitude.
Having fences roll up behind opened apps is a major bummer for me.
Fences is a desktop icon management tool. By definition it works with the desktop icons at desktop level where they exist. Microsoft determined the order at which focus of "what becomes on top" is arranged. What you need to ask yourself is..."does any program on the planet allow the change of level of a desktop icon to be shown above
I guess I won't hold my breath for an official response.
If your skin comments have gone then so be it. They will not be back. There was a very real chance that ALL of Stardock's history could have been lost forever. TMan posted a list of accounts that were lost completely and unrecoverable, and that was a couple of dozen of the 8 million registered users. I don't recall your name listed, hence yo
I think the first people in the industry likely to get nervous will be the stunt performers/doubles. They will become redundant when an actor's 'avatar' can be the one risking its neck. International IP Law NEEDS to catch up NOW, not after the horse has bolted. ;)
I finally got Windows10 to my Gold Standard, since I upgraded from Windows7 in February. I don't care what any body says, I won't be upgrading to Windows11 anytime soon. I may invest in Windows 10 extended support, Extended Security Updates (ESU). I stayed with Windows7 for 16 years, ya think I'm going to jump to Windows11, haven't seen a good enough reason yet!
18 years on Windows 7 and still counting.&n
