Or should I just get a usb mouse to lug around with my laptop?

How do you scroll out so as to make more of the map visible on the screen if you don't have a scroll wheel? The zoom out button only seems to be for the mini map.
Still no responses? I just want to know what the limitations are on modding... is it exclusively visual effects?
Sooo.. any ideas on whether or not this can be done by a modder?
Let's not get hung up on the minor points (sorry about the rant). I just want to know if these type of modifications are possible in the game by someone who isn't a dev.
I've got several ideas for modifications to the game that would make life better for players... for instance (and feel free to give me feedback. I don't want to learn how to make mods if none of these are possible). before you create a starbase, being able to see the area of influence the starbase would have - a preview function if you will.. is this doable? In the trading screen, when you right click on a tech, I'd like to be a
boy and apparently timeout expired doesn't mean what it sounds like it means
Well, no, not really. Since about mid game there haven't been any techs the other races could offer me as far as trade goes. See, I started the game in the center of 4 civs, and traded them all the same things to get several different techs from the first 12 turns or so in I had more techs than every other race. This allowed me to be the one focusing on the higher quality techs. When the game ended I was 3 turns away from getting invention Matrix</

Did anyone play the game who was color blind? If so, how was the UI? Were there options that would allow you to custom change the game control colors? I'm not talking about the colors on planets/ships/whatever (I'm kinda making stuff up, I've only seen screenshots and the reviews of the AI), all I really want is a game that allows me to change the colors of the game buttons. Frankly, being a color blind gamer sucks, and I would hate to dish out the cash for a game that turns out to be unplay
I don't mind the color coding thing at all, in fact, I think it'd be a wonderful addition. That said, I'm colorblind, so I'd also like an option to change color schemes for UI elements. Think that'd be possible? As almost 1 out of 10 men are also colorblind, this could be a useful setting to have.
