Approximating for all the values that don't actually exist and with the qualification that I looked at these a while ago, Yor and Krynn have 30+ points in abilities total (including discretionary), Humans and Korath 24 or 25, Altarians 22. Everyone else- way, way less.

Agreed. Wiping out sentient life so your little colony will be a third more productive? Evil. Wiping out a bunch of dumb mollusks so your citizens can live free of fear? Sounds practical to me.
The initial poster. To me a bunch of stars just exploding at random for no reason hurts suspension of disbelief, not the representations of planets being within a few diameters of each other. I mean, yeah, if it's an option I can just leave it off, but I don't see what the allure is that there are so many posts calling for it. It's an impossible event that can completely change the balance of power in a game in a single stroke.
Humm... is there anything like hotseat? That seems like it'd be a lot easier to develop, since it's basically just adding another player turn for a second player race. Hotseat Age of Wonders is probably among my most fondly-remembered gaming experiences, thinking back.
What's with all these people who want their stars to go nova? If you want to talk realism, how could any race advanced enough to travel to another star NOT figure out beforehand that it wasn't going to be around in a few years?
