Thanks, guys, that's really helpful. I will try my 32 "tiny" ships fleet now.

Been playing the game for a while, still confused about the concept of the "fleet". I made the following assumption: 1) The attack ratings for anyship within a fleet is the "combined" attack ratings. 2) The defense ratings for anyship within a fleet is still its own individual defense ratings. Are these assumptions correct?
Hi, Vanir, interesting. My game was actually lot different from yours. The major races did not seem to get all the techs from the minors. Maybe because I was playing at "Normal" (somehow my computer crashed a lot on "intelligent"). I was playing against 9 major races. Two of them are 4 and 5 techs behind and one other is about 20+ techs behind.
I actully did it while "tough" (or "intelligent" AI settings).
the game was running very smoothly. I was playing at "beginner" and "normal" level since release, and it only crashed once. Yesterday I started a new game at "tough" (other race AI at "intelligent" level), and the game crashed a lot about 5-6 times per hour. I got very frustrated, and went back to the "normal" level.
totally agreed with stuie_acs and Matt. Actually I am using it as an exploit to boost my money and research. I just bought techs and then sold it to all minor races(except the one I am ready to invade). It not only made me really rich but I also have a lot of techs due to the trading. One thing though, I do not trade techs with major race, just using the money to buy whatever new techs they have.
I have been getting "Ranger" class ships through the random events (three so far) pretty early in the game, just wondering what it is and what you think about it.
