I think the most interesting land system I've ever played was Age of Wonders climate system. AoW had a lot of empty land spruced up with cities and capture points, but the land itself still had a large impact on the game. In AoW, crops only grew in certain climates based on race and military units got morale penalties/bonuses depending on land. For example, Frostlings grew crops in the ice, got bonuses in the ice, had creatues that hid on the ice, and had spells that turne

I'll add my two cents for a 'SP with humans > 1' version of the game. Don't care about balance, don't care about streamlining, just let me substitute a human for an AI and let us fight tactical battles against each other or the AI. It's exactly what you did for sins of a solar empire, a psuedo 4x rts, and it worked great - you can have a crowded map set to blazing fast speed for the competitive guys, and can do a larger slower map for co-op with friends - maps were still random

I figured it out (still happens in 1.19d) I had my sov, janusk, and a champion all in the same tile. I entered the shop window through my sov and bought each person padded armor, using the arrow keys in the shop to select each character. When I exited, all three characters had the item in their inventory (I could trade and sell it back) but only my sov, the one I entered the shop window with, was able to actually equip it. Save/reload didn't fix it Trading

The past few times I've played with Verga and Yithril I've went to buy padded armor and its in my trade window and inventory but not in the equip screen, making it unwearable. I was able to trade it to Janusk and it showed up, but when I traded it back to Verga it didn't show up to be equipped. I don't know how to link save games or anything, but I can try to upload something later. This happens with armor primarily, I don't believe it has happened with weapons.

[quote who="Frogboy" reply="11" id="2893077"] Stardock has some pretty big things about to get completed this Spring and I've given Derek the okay to expand the development time on Fallen Enchantress so that it's tremendously good. Anyone who bought War of Magic before December 31 is in for a real treat as it's looking like it'll be as different from War of Magic as say Age of Wonders is different from HOMM. We'll see. Got a bug, and an unrelated comment. I got the escort a nobleman quest, but the estate was placed one tile outside another nation. As you can imagine, the border of that nation expanded beyond the estate. Thinking the game might possibly see the nobleman as some sort of border jumping unit, I tried to cross the border with just the nobleman and was told to start a war, or leave. This made the quest impossible to finish. The most obvious solution would be to h

I'll second this observation - I did a 4 way FFA, 240 bid was placed on me so I did 250 on everyone. I went to 500, so I raised one to 1000. Me 490 AI 1000 AI 500 AI 500 The AI let this stick? I'm so confused right now as to how the bounty mechanic works for the AI ...

Any chance at investigating the AI scripting involving bounties? I had an 8 player FFA where the AI never bountied each other, only me. It was an 8 player, 3 star map with 4 ppl per star (and one empty one). I noticed after the game that the 4 AI on the other star didn't bounty at all, not one penny - despite the fact that one of the AI's got killed, so I'm sure there was some AI vs AI reasons to request pirates. It just seems highly unusual for half the AI to not

I've noticed this too and it's very frustrating. I did an 8 player 3 star FFA and I noticed that the 4 AI's that didn't share a star with me didn't spend a penny on bounties, while every AI on my star did. That makes me wonder if the AI's do gang up on the human (or at least don't recognize each other) - surely that other star had some rivalries going on that pirates could have helped with?

You still need envoys to boost your relationship high enough to take advantage of the pacts. Double mineral production at each planet you have a vasari envoy for 1 minute of every 3, plus a resource pact that buffs both empires resources by 10% is not insignificant ...

28 Replies 47,305 Views

The pacts have a minimum relationship required - and to answer the quesiton, I think I read that 10 is the highest you can get with "normal" means. You can get up to 20 with envoys, and the pacts start hitting at 11.5 and go up all the way as they get better. *Edit* don't forget that the envoy ship itself has some powerful abilities as well. The Vasari envoy can double a planets production 1 minute of every 3, and you could have an envoy at every allied planet if you wante

Juvantei, replay the game with the new patch. The pirates were never this hard, not even when the original sins was released. It was just an "oops" and Ironclad fixed it very fast. You can make the argument that it should never have been that way to start, but *shrug* I'd rather have a company that addresses issues in their game instead of saying "its perfect" and walking away from it.

I don't want to repeat what Darwin said, but those payoff numbers for refineries are quite reasonable IMO. I have a question from a Vasari POV. Vasari's get their refinery at civic 3 and their trade at civic 4. You do require 3 levels of resource techs to unlock the refinery, but that's not bad per se (I crunched numbers and getting 4 levels of vasari resource techs will pay off in 15 minutes with 21 extractors, or roughly 7 planets and no neutrals - not a bad return).</

*Don't forget to use the black market. If you *need* a particular resource and have excess of another, you can acquire what you want. The inefficiency of the market is often worth dealing with. *Always remember to do infrastructure improvements on your planet to make the underdevelopment tax go away - 1 level on asteroids, 2 levels on planets. If you don't do this, the planet will actually COST you money. *Understand that the "long range frigate" class of shi

I built a starbase in a plasma storm (whatever storm prevents strike craft launches) to control a choke. The Hard AI assaulted me with 3 carrier cruisers, light frigs, flak, and two capital ships. 1) Shouldn't the AI have understood that "no strike craft" really meant "no strike craft" and left the carriers at home? 2) The AI suicided the entire fleet, including both capitals (levels 5 and 3) and the starbase survived with 4k hitpoints. The AI seems to unde

Quick question ... I've mostly played SINS offline because I didn't understand the game well enough to go online, but now I think I'll make the leap to online play. One thing I noticed was I did a LAN with a friend (on entrenchment at the time) and I noticed that the default speed was MUCH faster, and this threw me off a bit. I wanted to know what SP settings most resemble MP pacing. I don't care about AI or any of that, I just want to get comfortable at a compar

My skinatra won't autocast the nanites, even if friendly craft in the radius have hull damage. If I set scramble bombers to autocast, it DOES autocast it but not how I would expect. It autocasts it occasionally, but if it has remaining antimatter when the cooldown ends it won't do it. I was invading the pirate base with a pair of skinatras, they both failed to autocast nanites and once the fleet was dead and I wanted them to spam bombers to kill the turrets, they failed to

If anything, you can make the argument that us long time Stardock customers have grown accustomed to their high level of transperancy and behind-the-scenes looks. I think it is only natural for customers used to this behavior to get completely blindsided by something like this. It would be like you put your keys and wallet in the same spot for a year, and then your wife puts them inside a box in another room and you FREAK and spend hours looking for it and are late f

I reset my resolution from 1024 x ... to 1240 x ... and when I restarted the game, the buttons were in the wrong place. What do I mean? If I put my cursor on top of "new game", the button wouldn't highlight but if I moved the cursor an inch to the right of the entire button, it would light up and I could click on it. It was like this for all the buttons and buttons towards the edges of the screens are actually unclickable because I

The closest similarity to this game that I can find that already exists is ogame, an online spreadsheet rts. It was addictive and sucked away a few months of my life, but I quickly realized the futility of it. Having joined the universe months after it had been made, I was drastically far behind and once I was past the newbie protection point cap, I kept getting smashed by people with millions of points compared to my few thou
