The thing is, Entrenchment uses Impulse as installer. As such, the only kind copy that does not rely on the Impulse program for installation is one you make yourself. If you want just a backup, so that you do not have to re-download the game in the future, you can either use the archive feature in Impulse, or download entrenchment from http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/ . That will give you an executable and datafile tha
By the way, if you really want to know how to run 'as root' under windows 7: The feature is called "admin approval mode". It makes administrator accounts run programs with standard user privileges unless you explicitly tell it to run as administrator. This makes it so that if you run a program under an administrator account, it does not have write access to c:/. If you disable "admin approval mode", all programs run with administrative privileges unless you or the program expl
First of all, it is really assumed that one has sufficient space in the my documents directory, since it is also used by default for all your photo's and other such large personal files. The reason why the savegames are there are many: - If you backup your documents, you also backup your savegames. - If you have multiple user accounts, the have their own savegames and do not interfere with each others games. - Microsoft insists it is the proper location for such files.
True, I suppose that if you are somewhat unlucky, it is quite possible to not have gotten into the beta, even though you wanted to. But this way is no more solid than the other methods that have been there. Their key supply is, according to the website, limited, and those shops are not available in all countries. But still, more potential ways to get into the beta can only be a good thing.
Doesn't anyone who wants in the Beta have a key already? There have been so many ways to get one: Opting in from the beta site. (Chance based, requires owning a blizzard game) Various contests. (Chance based) Getting an invite from a friend through the invite a friend key some people got. (Requires someone to give you an invite) Sending a PM asking for beta access to a certain Starcraft 2 designer on a certain forum. (Requires you to be a member of said forum)<
As I understand to compile it I need MS Visual Studio Express Edition for C#, don't I?
That will work fine. However, note that if you are running a 64 bit version of windows, the express edition will only allow you to create a 64-bit version of the executable. Such executables are not compatible with 32 bit versions of windows, which are still quite common.
So your question is, why does Stardock use internet activation as copyright protection? Stardock is primarily a non-game software company. Most commercial software, such as Microsoft windows or Photoshop, uses online activation as DRM, and has for years. No software company is stupid enough to use a disc check, since due to the massive amount of different programs people use, many of which start when windows starts, having such a form of DRM is beyond impractical. Since many o
If you want to code some features yourself, sure go ahead. You can download the source-code from mediafire: [link]http://www.mediafire.com/?mnyymhnn2mt[/link]
First of all, I think it would be nice to have a filter instad of a sorting list when planetary improvements are chosen, so it would be obvious which ones a really responsible for production, influence, morale and economy. The thing is there are race sepcific improvements with mixed effects.
I thin
I don't really think Stardock wants everyone to be holding the bag if they go down and I have to believe that they want to serve those that paid for their game but you have to make choices right? We understand that the code needs to be protected and I can accept that but put in a system that makes sense, I don't appreciate going through hoops for no reason and I want to keep my fixes on my hard drive. I want to be able to install them on a computer with no internet and I want them in c
Sure, ask ahead.
If you try to run it full-screen at a very high resolution you can end up with a goofy color mess of it. Anything beyond 1024x768 in full screen can be a crap shoot but if you run it windowed, you can go nuts. Back in 1997, anything beyond 1024x768 probably seemed like science fiction. The fact it will run at 2500x1600 is just…wow.
I noticed a similar funky colors problem with starcraft and master of orion 2 in fullscreen under windows 7. On the internet, I foun
That quote is old, and unfortunately, inoperative now. I hope they back off on this, not just because it would loose them my sale (like they care). I really believe this 'logon to our server and let us connect to your PC just so you can play a game' is a) CRAP, and bad for the future of PC gaming.
Then why does the Beta have a disabled "Play as guest" button on the login screen? That button is most certainly the play offline button, although it is named oddly.
You don't have to login to play starcraft 2: "You don't technically have to (login), but you'll want to. You can play in offline mode if you want - I just don't think you're going to want to. You'll be giving up lots and lots of features, and why would you want to be giving up features?" - Rob Pardo, Vice President of Game design, blizzard entertainment.
Race Choice * Wizard choice -> Insane amount of different starting options, that remain relevant for the entire game. Differentiation between the spell schools. You could specialize in spell schools, or be a jack of all trades, and that choice mattered because the spell schools were very different, and strongly themed. No spell copies. There was rarely the case of a spell being 'the same as another spell but better'. If you wanted a more power
The beta will remain open for some time. As such, you do not need to pre-order prior to the beta opening. In fact, if you wish to use Paypal as payment method, you can only do so when the beta is open. Impulse is the only way to acquire the beta. Any version of the game will allow you to download it through Impulse on release, but the beta is only for people that order directly at Stardock/Impulse.
I see your point Netriak, but I must agree with AM_Shark. It does make gameplay more tactical if there is a limited numer of turns you can control the charmed creature.
If you read my previous post, I was the one that proposed the idea that the duration of a charm depended on charm strength and creature/caster level. My point was solely against save-load abuse being something that Stardock should balance about. Concerning infinite armies: That has nothi
You can also restart the game until you have the perfect start position, make a mod that gives you an overwhelming advantage, or just plain use cheatcodes. All of these things can make the game a lot easier, and none of them are an 'issue'. It is neither possible nor desirable to prevent such things.
Hmm. It is not fun if you cast a powerful charm spell, and it does nothing wasting the spell. It is overpowered if you can too easily charm powerful creatures. Why not make the charm result non-binary? If the charm is strong compared to the target it works permanently. If it is weaker, the charm works temporarily. If it is pathetic, it fails. The temporary duration could scale smoothly, making it not an all or nothing effect. If the chance of complete failure is high, even a very succ
There are multiple reasons: Cumulative patches will result in every patch being bigger than the last one, since all previous changes are included. So even a minor patch will be huge. If you have a fast internet connection, and good patch servers, this is preferable, since you can just download the latest patch regardless of your current version. 511 MB is only 40.88 seconds at a 100 MBit connection after all, which is no time at all. Even if you have just 3Mbit or something, it is don
No one is forced to copyright what they make.
I don't think that is true. According to the Berne convention, the very creation of a work copyrights it. In some countries, such as Germany, copyright can not even be transferred. Whether one can release ones work to the public domain, and abandon ones copyright is legally somewhat unclear. Which is why free programs generally still have licenses. So yes, people are forced to copyright what they make. Well
Mail changing and account merging is already available, although not from within the client itself. Go to the stardock support website: [link]https://www.stardock.com/support/[/link] To change email: "Need to update your email address or account info?" on the support page, then goto logon info. To merge accounts: "Have products on multiple accounts and need to transfer registrations?" on the support page. Note that accounts, when merged, cannot be unmer
If you mean you have it as an .Impulse archive file, you click the blue button on the top left, and select restore archive from the dropdown menu. From there you can select the archive file to restore. Note that, for some reason, the prompt for install directory option does not work when restoring archives. Changing the default installation directory from the preferences screen does work though.
I found these ancient Elemental descriptions on the old website. They were interesting. Are they still correct I wonder? The elemental beta is currently closed. After the next phase starts you will be charged and be granted download access. So you do not have a serial to register at the current time.
