Just a quick thought on city building. What if non-special tile housing and food production tiles automatically appeared outside your town so as people moved towards your town the farmland would be cultivated automatically and farmers would appear and neighborhoods would organically rise up to provide housing for the people who work in the core tiles. So gradually your larger cities would be surrounded by farms and civilian neighborhoods. Then a

don't expect it to be fun. really. they're not kidding, and you will be disappointed. Brad's just started on the AI, and no one has seen how the multiplayer works (or how well) not to mention the graphical engine is bound to have glithes and leaks galore when we first get to see it here in beta 2. On the upside, though, we get to help shape how the game is going to turn out to a much greater degree than in other betas.
Ooh, I loves me some particle systems :) Are particle systems tied to spells only or will we be able to embed them on tiles and units?
It's on our list (PBEM) but no promises if it'll be ready be release.
Have you seen how FrozenSynapse is doing their PBEM? It gets rid of the E-Mail part/hassle. When you log in to the multiplayer community it shows you your active games and which ones have new turns posted on em, it gets rid of all the Email hassles trying to import/export turns etc which turns
@Tcores Wow good stuff here. Thanks for sharing! [e digicons]k1[/e]
@drakkheim In your example, the priorities seem set to be "on" at all times. When I see Brad's example I see set game "periods" being used. I realize I am looking at the 2 from a very simplistic view, but am curious about how, in your example, would I change the AI's focus to be a "set" time frame in game (turns), versus always using a weighted value for a specific element?
@john_hughes <p
Good morning Frogboy, Thanks for letting us in under the hood a bit. I highly recommend this XML design article But the short version, unique values should be element values and attributes are generally things that each element in a section share. So For ex. maybe break out the Priorities into their own separate elements so you can next multiple layers of prio
Much clearer what you're asking now :) Fleshing out the Factions gets my vote. The more distinctive character and personality that you can imbue them with will make the gameworld that much richer.
Oh and incidentally Master of Magic is now for sale from the excellent fellows at GOG.com for a princely sum of a cup of starbucks. $6
Hm, Being able to create a custom faction and a custom race seems redundant to have to figure each with their own bonuses etc. Add in your spell books as well and it seems very overwhelming to balance not to mention just figure out as a new player. But if we're basing this whole discussion off the survey about creating custom factions, I can say that I'll choose my own custom faction and or race over some weird random fantasy word that has no meaning for me. &nbs
Two of the most memorable characters from our D&D campaign: The mage Maximillian, he had a distinct obsession with finding the perfect wine and cheese combination for making the ultimate fortified ration. One day a count offers us a lunch spread that had a very very rare cheese in the spread. Well Max, pilfers the uneaten parts of the cheese and that night sneaks out of his room that our gracious host has given us, in an attempt to sample the wine cellar. L
Likewise. Been annoying me since forever. Pretty much the forum fails to parse the querystring when its appended to a url. An Easy fix might be to have your 404 page redirect to itself without the querystring unless there is no querystring, then just fail with proper 404.
I like it. Fits the pseudo art deco feel of the game. My only thoughts would be to flip the art. Since we read left to right, psychologically we associate with the future to the right and the past to the left. So right now it feels like she's reflecting on the past instead of planning future conquest. Also the sun feels like a sun set. Bumping up the saturation on the yellows n light blues will make it feel a bit more like morning. <a href="http://www.swiftt
Cultist encampments are spreading across the world along the trade routes, causing workers and farmers to forget their duites to the crown. Annihilate all the encampments you can find and gather enough clues to locate the location of the high priest's enclave in the mountains and kill him (and his pet demon or somesuch) Something in the mountains at the head of the river is contaminating it causing all the nearby lands to become corrupted, find the cause of the ma
Wouldn't it be interesting if some of your channeler's attributes were reflected in the race they command? So perhaps a Master Warlord attribute would pass on a bonus with melee damage to their units but perhaps a decrease resistance to magic/mental attacks.
Just a random thought. It wouldn't be too terribly complicated to have certain words be replaced with more nuanced words in the flavor text. So for ex, for a greeting to Friendly Nation, you could have "Hello [friend]. Do you want to discuss our treaties?" and then depending on the exact level of Friendliness the [friend] could be replaced with 'fellow emperor' ,'friend', 'neighbor', 'good buddy', 'my BFF,' 'you super sock puppet master and future ruler of my world
Ah, I disabled 'show pre-release' versions button and I can reinstall (v2) of it finally.. It'd be great if Impulse actually showed you little things like, paid upgrades, version numbers etc. So now when I install the next Elemental beta, is it going to prompt me to install the non functioning deskscapes beta again? Maybe if V3 had been released as a seperate product or if Impulse prompted you to buy the upgrade before downloading
Ditto on same error. I was getting "File Download is smaller" when trying to patch to the latest version.. I uninstalled and rebooted.. now trying to re-install it's saying "File Download is Larger than expected". I've disabled my AVG antivirus and added an exception to no avail. I downloaded and installed myColors and it went fine. It's only the Deskscapes install that's failing.
I'm not exactly loving the random tech concept. It seems .. well arbitrary. Maybe if it's just exotic techs. I like Sarudak's idea of keeping theory from practical applications, and this would let you capture an enemy tech, retroengineer it and make improvements on it but not nessicarily know how it works. </p
Ooh Exodus & Mail Order Monsters!.. I played them for years on my old C=64! But Lemonade Stand was terrible, one of those things dad bought to 'teach kids a lesson' about the real world things. I think I put Thexder on the floppy after hole punching the edge to make it writable. oh and the Elemental update looks pretty cool too. Now excuse me I've got to go rummage about for some emulators.
I haven't gotten my email (ordered last week) but its in my download list and if I right click it I can see the SN under view registration. Now to drive home and see if it installs.[e digicons]\o/[/e]
wow.. first computer game.. 2nd grade, on my coursin's kit built pc back in europe, some race game where you had to drive through a randomly generated maze that he spent a day typing in from some magazine. I remember the keys were wobbly and you could see the circutboard he had soldered beneath it and your car was a red blinking square in a maze of squares with a green square that was the goal. First commercial PC.. would be Parsec for the ti-99 an
Woo, sweet! Demigod just got added to this weekend's lan party agenda!
@Garion: x3 was actually harder to play if you tried to fly with a stick. If they make it so you can actually complete the single player game without waiting 6+ months for patches and maybe some kind of in game tutorials so you can scale the mammoth learning cliff. I loved x2 & 3 but everyone else I know played the first 20 minutes and gave up on the insane interface. Even those who loved elite and privateer. For anyone who hasn't played the X games. Imagine driving
There is no text on any of the buttons in the game. Including the main menu. But only when you launc the game via Steam (So you get the in game overlay chat and friends list) Not a big deal, but sure would be nice if I could chat up with my friends without having to alt tab out.
