I've seen this same thread several times, and not once have I seen an answer from a dev explaining how the thing works. It would seem a simple thing for them to do, no?

Perhaps it just protects the freighters from the planet its on?
MrOwl what was the name of this weapon, there are some powerful weapons that become available at certain tech levels if your an evil civ that are way above the other weapons at that current tech level. The Nano Ripper also comes to mind (which is 8 dmg), which is a mass driver weapon that becomes available to any civ with the tech "singularity driver 4".
I've been looking on the board to see if anyone knows what the "creativity" (+25%) trait does. It seems nobody has an answer. But a few games ago, I had the trait, and late in the game, when I was building a new ship, I noticed a weapon I hadn't seen before... I think it was a missle weapon... anyway, it did something like 8 damage - WAY above everything else I had. I didn't pay it too much notice at the time (except "load up on these!!"), but haven't seen the weapon since that game (and I haven
already mentioned this in its own thread (and am not sure if it's already been mentioned in this one), but can random events be toggled on/off (or even better, toggle them to minor / major)? I hate investing hours in a game and having it completely change by some random event. And the ones in GalCiv2 are biggies.
To me, if the challenge was to destroy 1 uber ship and i was able to do it (maybe wave after wave of fighter squadrons because it would lose a little bit of health each time) I would feel pretty smug about myself. I should have put this in my other post... sorry. Anyway, I would agree with you if that were the case. But (a
I believe that the Random Events are Just right. which is why I think it should be able to be toggled. That way, everyone is happy. I like *some* random setbacks / advantages. But not the completely game-changing ones that many people are seeing.
To start, I love the game. I'm new to Gal Civ, but have been playing computer turn-based strategy games since Master of Magic. This game was worth every penny spent, and then some. However, I'm finding some of the random events just too "game-changing" for my tastes. I mentioned in another thread that the appearance of the Ranger ship almost ruined a good game, as nobody (myself, the other AI's) had anything that could even remotely counter it. This Ranger easily destroyed fleet
Maybe I'm in the minority, but these overpowered random events are lame. Like the virtually indestructable Precursor Ranger ship, it just totally ruins what was a good game. Nothing like having hours invested in a game and then having it completely change on you due to some ubar-powered random event. They *really* need to have a toggle for these things so that those of us who want to play without them can.
I just found this thread because all of a sudden, the AI has a ship I cannot even scratch... is this for real? These ridiculously overpowered ships just "show up"? I love this game, but this is a really poor design decision. Please scale this back some.
Just to comment on your first point: I would never leave a usable planet right near my homeworld empty. From a "what would I do in real life" standpoint, it makes almost no sense to give someone else a launching pad right next to your homeworld. I know it costs a ship and an extra few turns, but I know I would be extremely uncomfortable in *anyone*, friend or foe, colonized a planet in my homeworld's solar system. Your "replacing factories" sounds interesting. I thin
