For a long time I was an opponent of the rants for "more realism" in the game (mainly because 90% of the ideas were just plain silly). But, I'm gonna put on my hypocrite hat here with this (sorry!). The need to route multipleConstructors to a starbase to upgrade it adds to the realism of the game -- Where is the starbase getting its raw materials to perform the upgrades... from thin air? Look at it this way... during the building of a Constructor, i

Hmm... You want Stardock to implement a change in the code to accommodate an issue that you can fix by simply setting your own system to a lower res? No offense, but I gotta say don't count on it... With each tweak to the code, a whole new set of QA tests have to be set up and run to ensure all is hunky-dorey. Every add to the code has the potential to wreak havoc somewhere else. As a Tech Writer for a small software company, I see it every day. As "improvements" are made to our p
I have been nothing but a huge proponent of this game since the get go, and when people complained about all of the "issues" with the game, I just took them all with a grain of salt and kept playing -- even ignoring these issues when they popped up on me (which they nearly never did). BUT... (and you had to know it was coming). I have definitely seen the "Turn Button Issue" Reyals is pointing out, and a lot more in the recent past. I'll click on the button to end the turn and seemin
I'm guessing that either you guys must always be able to generate massive amounts of cash, or your Logistics ability is WAY up there. As I'm sure you well know, if you try to build a starbase above the number allowed by your current Logistics, you're charged an exorbitant amount of cash... So, the only way a player could exploit by spamming is if they're ultra wealthy (or taking on massive debt by going with "Mitrosoft" to build them), or they've focused all of their research on Logistics, righ
Hey All, Please ignore my first post. In trying to "Edit" it I keep getting error pages. So, I'll re-post (Now that I know what I'm doing -- Thanks a lot for the info, therjw!!) Anyway, my attempt at a Tie Fighter... Specs: Small-sized Hull Single Ion Drive Dual Laser Cannons (Mark 5) Shields (Mark 3) And a larger image... <img src="http://img5
Hopefully, no one else has created one and posted it here, but here's my weak atempt at a Tie Fighter ('cause I looked through all the posts to find one, and I didn't see one). Specs: Small-sized Hull Single Ion Drive Dual Laser Cannons (Mark 5) Shields (Mark 3) And... a larger image. Sorry about the colors (a little dark and hard to see the detail). <img s
djtool : check google for star control 2 game called "The Ur-Quan Masters" It's a direct port from the original to PC, and stable as all get out. One of the improvements is they got a lot of the original sound people to come in and do remixes on the themes, and they're QUITE NICE! Awesome, awesome, awesome!! StarControl II is pretty much my al
Influence starbases should be placed near your borders to push them out. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but an Influence Starbase (IS) can serve three purposes in extending your overall influence: 1. Exactly as HEEGZ has said - Placed on your borders, they increase your physical range of influence. 2. Influence is Relat
Cool... in reading this WHOLE thread, I've come to two conclusions: 1. Now that I know all this, I'm playing my next game as the Yor! Woo hoo! 2. If the main reason that Stardock should downgrade the Yor's starting abilities is to make it "more fair" for Metaverse stats... who honestly cares? Sure the Metaverse is a cool aspect of the game, but what do you get, other than "b
That is how it is supposed to work. PQ = number of usable tiles. Anything else is a minor bug Then that raises a question with me (actually a couple of 'em). What about the reverse of this? A planet displaying a PQ of, say 6 that, after Soil Enhancement and Teraforming, now has 12 usable tiles. Is this actually a PQ 12 planet now? I current
If youre using the PrtScrn button on your keyboard, then hit paste in a graphics proggy such as Paint, and save. Thanks for repeating exactly what I said in my post...
How are you taking the screenshots? If you're using "Shift + Print Screen", that method just copies your current screen to memory (a la the "Copy" command). You then have to open another app (like Photoshop or MS Paint) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the image from memory. Basically, this method only allows you to take one screen shot at a time. So hopefully you haven't been using it to capture multiple images! Hope this helps at least a little!
And the other race must know the alliance tech Sorry Peace Phoenix, but this is not true. Only YOU need to have the Alliance tech, and your relations with the desired race must be "Close" (as Ostsol said). I've allied with several races that were WAY behind me on the Tech tree, and they didn't have Alliances researched yet (i.e., I
What would you upgrade it to? No, there is no upgrade. It simply lets whatever ships are in orbit defend as a fleet. The concept is simple, the effect is powerful. If you would have slowed down a little and read the post, you would have seen I was asking about the "Planetary Defense" (PD) building, no

Yeah an orbital fleet manager would do it - also if your going to be defending a planet without ever bothering to launching ships and interecepting the incoming fleets you might also want to build the planetery defense building as well since it'll give bonuses to your ships that are in orbit. OK, sorr
I'm guessing you can create fleets -- with their overall size dependent on your current Logisitcs ability, and have that fleet defend your planet as a whole. Otherwise, each ship in orbit only defends individually (for example, w/out the orbital defense mgr, a whole fleet of enemy ships would take on each of your defending ships, one at a time, and more than likely take each one out. With the ODM, your ships would be grouped into a fleet, and that fl
yes, but it will only defend one ship at a time unless you have the Orbital Defense Manager Duh... I feel like such a tool. I read the description for this building and couldn't quite grasp it's use (and therefore, never built one). I just kept sending my fleets to my big planets thinking they were
OK... sorry about my "Captain Obvious" response -- I didn't read your post very well. Dumb suggestion, but try saving the game and re-loading it. Also, try closing out the game and re-starting it. That's fixed a few of these types of issues for me.
Build a constructor ship and route it to the starbase. As it arrives, you'll be given a series of upgrade choices, based on the type of starbase. You can keep building constructors and routing them to the starbase to upgrade it even more. In addition, various technologies you can research will allow for more upgrades.
If I'm understanding your issue, you primarily work with a heterogeneous layout for your worlds (i.e., multiple different building types on a single planet), correct? Here's a bit of a suggestion: Try my method of play -- Homogeneous worlds (Research-dominant/Manufacturing-dominant/Monetary-dominant worlds). With this, my shipyards are built on my manufacturing-only worlds to allow for faster production, and when I need a ship, I open that planet's window and adjust the spending to focus on M
Excellent points, all well noted. I guess I'm being a little bit of a hypocrite, so I apologize. I'm a firm believer in, "If you don't like what's playing on that TV channel/radio station (a la Howard Stern), just turn it off". I guess I need to take that approach with posts and threads here as well. Also, I should probably be a little more open-minded and not so quick to criticize. No wait a minute... Wasn't that what I was asking others to do in the first place??!! <img src="h
As for those darn kids, I just yell at them to get off my lawn. ...and if their damn ball rolls into my yard one more time, I'm keeping it!!
transported criminals, sailors, debtors, cattle thieves, and swindlers to name a few Hey... you just named half of our current political leaders! Anyway, it was more of a "tongue-in-cheek" observation than anything else -- I'd just come out of a thread that was complaining about the realism factor in the game. So, what I've learned is that th
1 - Implement multi-monitor support This would not only be one of the top requests on my list for the game, it would serve as the "straw that broke the preverbial camel's back" in my argument to my wife about buying that second monitor (Well, I'd lie and say that I REALLY need it for work). <img src
