This bug requires that your hero stands on the edge of an opponents influence zone. When the zone expands, you will be inside the enemy territory. However, any attempt to move results in the pop-up box asking whether or not you wish to go to war. Choosing 'no' will mean your character cannot move. Not even out of the foreign territory. The only way to move and retrieve your hero is to choose the option to declare war. --LordPixie &n
Yeah you don't want to touch the slider, you need to uncheck "Advanced Lighting" at the bottom center. I was getting the same problem - blurry graphics normally, black screen if I take the slider down, but it's fine if I just uncheck the advanced lighting box at the bottom.
You're exactly right. Unclicking that box did clear things up. Thanks! --LordPixie

The main menu text options (New Game, Load Game, Multiplayer) bleedthrough the loading screen on my system. Looks very strange. My DirectX diagnostic file can be found here: http://pastebin.com/Q8v6DS3u . <img style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" src="http://content.screencast.com/users/LordPixie/folders/Jing/media/ef703a48-7ee3-40a2-9f72-49f734aed9de/Load%20screen%20bleedthrough.png"

I'm having the exact same problem too. As Zamul mentions, it seems to alternate from bad to good on game start. (For what it's worth, I'm loading an autosaved game) Oddly enough, if I turn off advanced lighting, by dropping the slider to zero, the graphics get worse! Here's an example: http://screencast.com/t/YzdkOTUxMDE <img src="http://content.screencast.com/users/LordPixie/folders/Jing/media/6f918b43-11e6-4333-8d66-3

I'm having an issue installing games from Impulse on WindowsXP64. Namely, I can't. When I hit the install button, I get a pop-up error stating: "This program is not compatible with your current operating system". But I'm able to download an run everything just fine via the classic StarDock Central. But I assume that workaround won't be available forever. Is there any hope of getting XP64 support? I'm hoping it's just a matter of adding a check for

* unhijacks this thread * Frogboy, I love your assumptions. Especially the bit about combined arms -- I can never get enough of unit mixing. That being said, I do have two suggested additions to combat: I want to see what * types * of weapons an enemy has . It makes perfect sense to me that this may require sensor technology/research/ships/skills/etc. But it is imperative that one has a clue what they're fighting, to more effectivel

Yikes. I have no idea where you heard these horror stories from. They couldn't be further from the truth. Are you sure you're not thinking of Steam ? Stardock & Total Gaming have hands down the most laissez faire view of software protection I've ever seen. And they should be commended for it. If you purchase the boxed version of GCII, you don't even need to install Total Gaming. Or register your serial. There is -NO- copy protection running on the game. In fact

If its because its dieing, what could be the cause of this bugs? some transisters not working properly? Any clues in Windows' Event Viewer ? (Start->Run: eventvwr) I've seen bad harddisks have some pretty crazy results on system performance. If you're (un?)lucky, that can throw really angry errors into the event viewer. --LordPixie

I'd also like to see less use of jump lanes in the game. Kryo, I can definitely see your point. However, I think that with sufficient tweaking in other areas, optional or non-existent jump lanes should be possible. Combinations of many of the suggestions in this thread could make it more than viable. Slower jump speeds, weakened ships, etc. Even new ideas, like technologies that slow incoming jump forces. (Didn't MoO2 have these?) Or generators that extend a 'no jump through' field bey

I would like to get everyone's feedback on both camera options - attached and strafe-enabled mode. Click on the camera (or lock) button beside the menu button at the top center. Thanks! I personally got thrown for a loop the way rotating works in strafe mode. I can't quite place my finger on what it is exactly that's wrong, though. It just feels...off. Like the rotating pivot point should be further away fro

Changing the resolution Changing the resolution in options results to the same error as with the movies. The game disappears for a while (you see open windows apps) then goes back to a black screen. You still can hear the music, but see only darkness. Muhahaha ! I've noticed the same issue. I bumped into the same problem with the intro movies, and the resolution change breaks it as well. Basically, as the resolution

Most of you have no doubt played games where you later hear the beta testers didn't think the game was ready for release but they were stuck under NDA. I've never seen an example where the beta testers were wrong. I love you. --LordPixie

Well, I actually have a gaming mag delivered, and I think you're on the right track: Gameplay screens work a LOT better than concept art/pizzaz. And while I'll readily admit I gloss over most advertisements, they are far from useless. I'll pay more attention to good ones. If I've heard of a game before, but don't know much about it, the ad will get two free seconds of my time. Furthermore, any advertisement contributes to gaining mindshare. If

That's a rather good example, Syneris. I happen to have played 10Six a great deal during beta, and a bit since release. Heck, I even spent some time as one of those nuisancesome ubergamers. I know exactly what you're talking about. However, 10Six did make moves to limit just that problem. They basically placed limits on the amount of stuff that could be brought on the offensive, based on the level of the defender. So a high end player could brin

If you destroy/decomission an entire fleet, the ships' maintenance costs are not deducted from your weekly upkeep. (You have to use Details->Destroy to get rid of a whole fleet at once) You get the stated cash back correctly, but the ship maintenance cost stays the same. It's not a problem if you disband the fleet, then decomission each ship individually. (Even using the same Details->Destory path) This isn't a huge deal

I'm brand spanking new to GalCiv. And it looks like I'm going to love it. As for how I heard about it -- word of mouth. Interestingly enough, during a discussion of copy protection technologies. Someone mentioned StarDock (and this game) of avoiding draconian measures of copy protection. Not to mention having a genuine respect for their customers. A link to this website provided proof of just that. I could think of no b
