actually it would only apply to the tech buildings themselves so there would only be about a dozen or so that I know of and the change would be minor simply adding a negative number to the morale column. And yes I can easily create a mod to do this I was simply wondering if it might not be something that would add to the flavor of the game without creating a great deal of difficulty for the players or the programmers.

Very true GW I did not take into account the roleplaying aspect and stand corrected about that. If possible a morale bonus for that political party as applied to tech centers would be appropriate but I am uncertain as to how difficult it would be to implemant. I tend to use historical and therefore "human" examples of social patterns and this was why I dissented from your view.
Gw Swicord I see the point you are trying to make but research affects morale because the average person does not understand or does not want to wait for the long term benifits taht come from it. So they have negative morale for the general population and do not give positive moral except for a tiny percentage of the population ( ie scientists and scholars ) . Also churches and research buildings really do not serve the same role , sorry . A closer analogy would be we
Actually people do want a cure for cancer but if you ask them for the tax increase to increase spending on research for it they complain and private industry will not do reserch unless they see the possibility of profit at the end so many forms of cancer are ignored. As to the hoard of Drengin unfortunatly history shows that there is always an enemy at the gates so to speak and if there isnt one then they create one.
I certainly appreciate the patch you guys have done a great job as always but I personally would like the option to slow down tech if possible. Either a new "epic" pacing tech speed or the possibility of adding a negative morale bonus to tech buildings to make a more balanced planet build desireable( at this moment people often put tech buildings up whenever they have spare room ) . It would have the added bonus of increasing the value of tech bonus tiles on planets.
I have mentioned before without any feedback about the simple solution of adding a negative morale bonus to each tech building. This would prevent people from making huge tech planets ( without careful management ) and moderate tech advancement with a simple change that would not require a lot of programming. It also accuratly reflects reality as the majority of people do complain when large amount of funding are put into research or science ( look at NASA ) . Just an idea am willing to
never considered the fact that some players would not have bought the upgrades appeciate the heads up , thanks
I have been using the latest update to score points on the metaverse so I do not know , but it is required to use the latest version to score points and if not then why not? Otherwise you just keep using an older version with known exploits and score easy points.
Which is why I suggest the possibility of adding negative morale to tech buildings it will limit the ability to create ultra tech planets and increase the importance of tech bonus tiles. Tech would then act the same as population if you increase too much without proper consideration you pay the penalty . Any feedback? ,good idea? ,bad idea? I should be hung up by my thumbs for even suggesting it?
I would not want it to my concern is if the programming code would be able to distinguish so if we made techs stealable by flipping we would also make them stealable by trading . If this is so it sounds like an exploit in the making.
Has anyone considered the possibility of simply adding a negative morale bonus to the tech structures? This way its a guns vs butter concept put up too many tech centers and your people become unhappy about the cost. It happens in the real world all the time , look at NASA .
Also if you trade a planet to another player would they gain a tech ? Can the code distinguish between a flip and a trade?
This is why I started to play metaverse games. Once you have a win in the bag so to speak then you can focus on maxamizing your score. gives you a third goal after the first two survival and conquest. Also fun way of keeping track of your games.
Very true my analogy was not the best choice but I hope the meaning still got through. Thanks for the explaination I am now looking forwards to zoom to cursor 8) Oh and as a side note I hope that in one of the future patches they restore the tech difficulty scaling in a manner that will not cripple the Ai ( or add a new tech rate Epic??? for those who like a slower tech speed ).
Ok call me a computer neophite but what exactly is zoom to cursor ? We can already scroll in and out using the mouse wheel is this different somehow? Thanks in advance for any help.
You know , from reading these posts you see a reflection on society . Most are grateful for the hard work and attention to detail that Stardock has given over the years . A few are polite but slightly impatient and to me this just show their love of the game. Then theres the one or two that if you gave them immortality and invunerability today , tomorrow they would scream about how bored they are and that YOU need to do something about this because its YOUR job to keep me happy. Grow up and lear
hey Guys Found a tactic that is legal if a little . . . ok a lot frustrating. First- use one point on creativity. Second- set your research on a bare trickle so you only use enought to set the timer. Third- pick a set of paths through the tech tree to get what you want early and use the tech rate increase bug to freeze the computer opponents in thier tracks. Fourth- risk carpel tunnel syndrome and reload the game over and over and over and I do mean o
Well the tactics you decribe work and I did score a win using them but its kind of taking advantage of the game mechanics. Not sure if I will do another like that I think its more fun to do the big maps and grind it out but for a change of pace its a good quick win . Thanks again for the help.
Thank you for sharing this information with us but I agree with ghostwes I dont like modifying files so I guess I will keep trying to perfect my own stategy.
Kselis congratulations on getting into the year zero club and wow! you have any hints for those of us whoa re still trying to finish in under 20 years? :CONGRAT:
Oh and politically federalist? well whicher one it is that gives you a 20 econ bonus
Terran , I use the trade tech bonuses for extra cash as early as manageble. I would play the Terrans but I use them as my "good" race as they are usually reliable about not attacking another good race. I also get the Drengin as the bad guys ( I really hate spore ships , too hard to make sure one side does not get too much too fast ) and the two neutrals are Arcea and Korx. Oh and I upgrade my miner to an extra colony ship first round ( costs about 130 ) to get a second starter
Hey GhostWes First avoid war at all costs , pay tribute to avoid war and get sensors very quickly to churn out survey ships to pay for the tribute ( this only works on the largest map where there is a never ending supply of anomalies ). Always vote for taxes on war , starbases in foreign territory and anything else that will weaken bots economy without hurting yours. I select one good race , one evil race and two neutral races and then play the british continental syst
Well managed a win on suicidal level. For the extreme difficultyand nitpicking attention to detail you need its really not worth it . it stops being fun and starts becoming work so I did it , i'm glad , and thats the last time I will play at that level . Next few games will be back to reasonalbe level. But I am happy to have the silly thing under my belt so I don't have to wonder if I could. ( collapses in a heap of sawdust )
Does anyone have a detailed explanation for the plusses and minuses from choosing evil vs good ( or neutral for that matter ) . I have read the game info but it really leaves a lot to be guessed at. I have noticed when playing good that the other good races seem to ally themselves to you but is this worth more in the long run than the better weapons you get by being bad? Any insights into this would be appreciated - thanks
