I really do need to look into that Ghosting thing... that really sounds like the best fix for this. I reformat this gaming/graphic design machine regularly too. Mostly because I'm constantly upgrading or tweaking something and I'll tell you what... nothing gets peak performance out of a system like a clean install of Windows and the latest drivers. That's the real reason for regular reformats. Everything I have is archived on DVD-R. As cool as the "Space Pirate" title sounds...

just wait for the Dark Avator expansion pack. This will surely have the latest patch for GC2.... Something tells me it will require internet "activation" as well.
Tried that first. Upon trying a test reinstall it wanted to start Stardock Central. I assumed that wouldn't be the answer because it wants to talk to the internet. I NEED a clean copy of the game that I can reinstall on an internet free machine without all this hassle. The "activate via email + jumpdrive" idea is only a temporary fix. I want activation free This is as restricing as Steam.
Didn't work... invalid "sig" or something. I hate Stardock.
I think I may have come up with a solution for myself... please tell me what you think. Even though I own the CD version I signed on to Stardock and downloaded the full 1.30A version of the game. I copied the game folder to a CD and uninstalled Stardock. Now... I should hopefully be able to just copy the updated game to my computer without an internet connection without any problems and play it I assume. Will this work?
Hey an image like that is not a bad idea!!! Norton Ghost you say? I'm looking into that!
Oddly enough... Starforce has never caused a problem for me.
Well, I got born and everyone fed me it was great. Then, eventually, I grew up and what do you know, I have to not only eat food 3 times a day, but I got to get it myself? What the hell is up with that? I really feel sorry for the OP, life is so hard man That's actually pretty funny! But you still get a middle finger. I'll say
*IF* you're reinstalling windows from an image. If you're doing a full reinstall, the sig.bin may not work from a prior installation (AFAIK it is coded to the installation it is created on). Well that kind of defeats the purpose for me... ah well. I'll just stick with the first patch. Too much hassle.
Will do... thanks! I assume that I can just archive the file with my patch and next time I reformat the thing and reinstall Winders I can just patch and copy over my key then. Excellent.
They already said how you can get them if you want to transfer the patch on cd/flash from another computer, try looking. Ooooo... I'm trying to figure that one out right now.
I don't have to activate Windows... I'm using an OEM version with SP2 on a backup disk for that very reason. I keep all my patches archived on DVD for those times like installing on my laptop on the road when I have no internet connection available. Yes... I can sign on and gripe about it right now. I can even activate right now. This is how I get my patches and keep everything archived. And to the guy who thinks I pirated this game... I couldn't figure out how to make a "middl
What good does the boxed version do me when I'm required to connect to the internet?
So I bought Galactic Civilizations II online (and boxed version). I was thrilled that I wouldn't need to connect to the internet as I never know when I will have internet service around here (oh my gosh I hated Steam). I'm constantly reinstalling my stuff (reformatting) and I was thrilled to death at the way GalCiv2 was handled. Now I have to connect to the internet with the latest patch?! CAN'T I JUST ENTER MY SERIAL NUMBER!? Stardock is pulling a "Steam" on me.
When you buy something, you can't do 'anything' with it.
You didn't crack it because you got flamed, you cracked it cuz you were impatient They sent me an SIG file. Great that unlocks it. But it was very specific that it was only for THIS install of Windows. It said if you reformat you will need a new file. Didn't like the way that worked
Nothing beats a fresh reformat and reinstall for performance. Trust me, I paid for Windowblinds 5 and WindowsXP and I'm not going to argue about it. I came here for a little help. I got flamed so I cracked it myself. No problems.
Look... my copy of WindowsXP is legit ... it's OEM volume license. No registration. My copy of Windowblinds is legit . I just bought it from Stardock. This copy of WinXP doesn't need activated every time you reformat and that's how I like it. If I reformat Windowblinds wants me to reactivate. It's security is more invasive than Windows XP to me. It aggrivates me and that is all. The software is great but I just don't care to be inconvenienced with something I paid
It's exactly the same as WinXP...it has to be activated, that's all... Not mine
I'm not installing Stardock Central again. I don't like Stardock or Steam. I have registered and paid properly. It is unfortunate that I had to do this but after a long tedious process I have bypass the copy protection and tested my method by uninstalling completely and reinstalling on a seperate machine. It works but I will not be detailing the method here as I do believe in PAYING for what you use. Hopefully in the future Stardock developers will take people like me into consideration. <img sr
If you reformat windows then you will need to reactivate. I am curious why you would reformat every month (vs ghosting the pc) Performance issues with constant upgrades and driver updates. I'm big into tweaking, gaming, 3D modeling and I believe nothing compares to a fresh install
Here's what I've managed to do. 1) Hooked machine to internet 2) Activated the software 3) Traced what file was added to my file folder 4) Backed up the Stardock portion of my Windows Registry 5) Stored that with my serial number and "activation file" in my backup directory on my backup CD Now, next time I do my nearly monthly format on that machine I SHOULD be able to "activate" it on my own right?
Maybe 20 minutes ago.... I'm impatient as all get out
Also... I'm about to buy Galactic Civilizations II with the DL option plus shipped CD. PLEASE tell me that the CD doesn't require me to get online too!
