I'd say ultimately I generally play in a spot between your style and your wife. I'll rarely limp in (especially when the blinds are cheap and a 3xbb raise isn't too expensive compared to my stack), and I do play hands (overly) aggressively, but I tend to be much more careful with mid and bottom pairs. Of course, part of that would be because I'm usually hitting mid or bottom pairs with my suited connectors so unless I have other draws going for it, it's likely a dead hand. Anyway,

I'm actually opposed to playing tight at the low blind levels. It's a problem people especially have in bigger live tournaments where they seem to focus on lasting rather than winning. You don't want to switch gears when the blinds force you to, because that puts you at the same disadvantage as everyone else. I would rather play much looser early on when I can afford to see more speculative hands and build a larger stack early. This allows you to steal blinds significantly better a
If I had to wager a guess, it would that most of the most adament individuals who are 'for' Orbittal Bombardment would be among the same individuals who either forget to properly manage their transport-fleet proportion in regards to their level of open hostility... ...or simply hate micro managing so many transports (but do
I despise the idea and think it a cowards option, but the dev's have said it'll be in the expansion pack. Attitude like that doesn't win war. Someone needs to read some Clausewitz.
Yeah, Penny-Arcade.
SDC != Steam Not saying either one is better, but their fairly different types of applications.
Actually it's entirely believable that a society will have trouble building older tech version of things. Machines require specific parts and if you're not producing those parts anymore because you're building more advanced things, it will actually be costlier to go back and start building the old stuff again. It's all about economies of scale for those with an economics background.
The developers of the horrible space conquest game that shall not be named (as it shames the name of those that came before) tried to expand the term from 4X to 5X. We all know how that ended. Funny on my forums it's referred to officially as "The Game That Shall Not Be Named."
After reading my post I need help with my spelling and sentance structure too. Write your posts in a Wordprocessor like Microsoft Word and then copy & paste them over.
Wow I cant believe this feature doesnt exist. I mean, in a huge galaxy i'd much rather blow them up than have to invade each planet. I guess i'm too used to MoO. That's how I always played MoO. Once I had my initial planets I rarely expanded past them. It was bombardment until I reached stellar c
I had one game where the Drengin of all people I believe was donating me tons of their smaller ships every round...
And in Master of Orion 2 it was called a Doom Star. I suppose another version could be a Dread Star. --Scitech No! In MoO2, the weapon was what did it. The weapon was called the Stellar Converter. Doom Star was just the biggest hull, but with enough techs you could fit the stellar conver
Yes, it was Swift. And there are some good ideas here... 1) Option to just blast the hell out of a planet rather than 'invade', decreasing output, morale, population. %) Option to "Blockade", using regular fighter ships or special ships? Reduces to 0 all output to opponent's empire. a) Option to research/deve
Yes Sir. But remember how it's a trap? "That woman means to shoot me again..."
The thing is, when it comes to the actual invasion part, the idea of planetary bombardment (not talking about the actual mass driver bombardment) is arguably abstracted as simply part of the invasion process (and the mass driver bombardment being an extra version of it I guess). It's fine to say it's extracted during invasion - so presumably this wouldn't make us need any fewer transports. The problem is there are times I want to actually
Man... I thought this was going to be about eating babies to curb famine... That said, I feel like there should be something other than what is there. Obviously it wouldn't work in the game as it is now, and isn't worth trying overhaul everything for, but I hate having warships sitting around a planet without being able to do ANYTHING to it.
The fact is, it's extremely difficult to have a game that adequately handles both the tactical and strategic levels. And it's typically not worth it anyway, if you want a tactical game find a game that focuses on that, because odds are any strategic model they put into the game will be extremely simplistic. And while I liked the fact that there were "tactical" battles in MoO2, and I love the game - they were a joke when it came
I've had maybe 2 CTD's and those were before the latest patches, which at least I was capable of understanding since I'm vaguely familiar with the alphabet. Indeed, while overclocking can be useful, it typically makes a system far more unstable. Try bringing the PC back to normal levels and playing.
Some interesting points, and I'll make some myself, you see, I'm a (gasp!) GAME reviewer. I see you are somewhat miffed about small companies not being noticed. I also see you linked to gamespot and other reviews, yet I recieved a copy of this game, reviewed it, and didn't even get a follow up when I provid
I agree with a couple of comments above (that I skimmed briefly). I'd prefer to see a more restrained and logical version of tech trading rather than no tech trading. Maybe only have trading techs be good for a shortened research time on the given tech or something (and keep the computer from trading every tech with every other AI player).
When's beta?
Please notice I wrote "estimate", not predict. If the system is to complex to estimate the result you are just driving blindly. If you carefully read through my suggestion again and really think about it you will find that: I suppose we should clarify, technically estimating and predicting are barely
Star Flight! That was the game.
God, I loved Star Control II. Does anyone remember what the name of a Sega Genesis game was that was similar to Star Control, except you were only the crew of a ship of humans?
I knew vaguely of the game before his first post about it. After his first post about it I was sold.
