I just want to make sure I understand the situation. F&P own everything that was in Star Control 1&2, but not the name "Star Control". Any new game they make can include familiar things like the Spathi, the Ur-Quan, the Precursors, etc. But it cannot include the name "Star Control" on anything, or claim to be an official sequel to "Star Control." Is this correct? Stardock owns the name "Star Control". Any new game they make CANNOT include familiar things like the

In real life, pirates flourish in situations where they can avoid the authorities and prey upon situations that are high reward and low risk. As such, pirates should attack with a medium amount of strength, but they should be able to attack any system in the game without going through phase lanes. Theres no reason why a pirate might not be lurking in the darkness of space, or why they would stick to conventional modes of travel, or why they would go straight through your Battle-Harden

If Advent were not weaker in the early game, then they never would have been kicked out of the Empire and the Solar Empire would have never Sinned. =D

I've played a few games now, and the same thing seems to happen over and over again. The pirates get so incredibly powerful that I just feed them 20,000 credit missions to send an overwhelming force to wherever the enemy fleet is and they annihilate the entire planet, leaving me to mop up effortlessly.

I'm having trouble with pirates. I'm relatively new to Sins, and each of the games I have played involved the pirates becoming a kind of superweapon. Their offensive force is powerful enough to demand the attention of my entire fleet, and by the time I build up a decent sized fleet the pirates often have several hundred ships in their primary base. What is the best way for each race to defeat the massive pirate defense fleet?

I tend for the Colony Rush. The very first turn I change Taxation to 100% approval rating, Spending to 100%, Military Spending to 0%, Social and Research to 50% Each. I then BUY colony ships every single turn until I have 4 of them, and buy the first Factory of every colony I have. With a decimated population on my home world, I'm bringing in no tax worthwhile yet getting pop bonuses from 100% Approval. Only a single world becomes my Military Production planet, or two for the lar

Agreed. Neutral is outstanding, with Good being a far second. In almost every instance the BC saved switching to Good from deeply evil is more than the weekly cost of having made the switch. So go evil, then swap out. Personally, I think that every single planet should inspire an event. A real chance to build your alignment, then if you're completely evil by the time you've researched Xeno Ethics, you're stuck with that alignment. Or, perhap

I've had my entire nation defect twice before. It's a very weird bug and quite abusable. On the trade screen it listed all of my assets as their assets and all of theirs as mine. Out of curiosity I traded everything of 'theirs' back to 'myself'. The game crashed. I tried again, this time only influence, money, ships and other total intangibles. I doubled everything but my planets in an instant. Weirdness.

The most potent combo I have found is the following layout: Populist Party, +50% Economy, +10% Planet Quality, +15% Morale. This lends me certain distinct advantages that are cumulative with eachother; I gain an impressive bonus to morale which allows me to ramp up tax income, then input that immense income into research and production capabilities from planets that are balanced to support the use of such an impressive economy. The Planet Qua

It can actually get pretty annoying. There you are, sitting around teching happily. Except, instead of teching without incident, the AI sends an unescorted transport every third turn for you to shoot down. This slows the process up quite a bit, but even on Apocalypse mission, with over 1000 attack power worth of battleships floating around, they still couldn't do anything. Interestingly, it wasn't until I started building Disruptor armed Tin

The Small vs Large debate has it's distinct tactical pros and cons. For instance, in a situation where your opponent is using all offense and no notable defense then swarms of Tiny Ships will win the day every time. The enemy will deal full damage to your tiny ship, overkilling by a signifigant margin, and allowing a fully offensive retaliation. Pound for Pound, Small and Tiny Ships are the most efficient source of offense. If your oppo

If you are talking about menu options in the middle of a game, this can be a problem if you pick BLACK as your race color, since it perfectly blends in with many menu options. The solution to that is to pick anything BUT solid black. If you are talking about the buttons on the beginning menu screen, then that is a bug as mentioned above.

Much like the above, just wildly purchase colony ships and pick up the planets. Tech up to either Invasion or good Engines. Toss on a single laser and your best engines on a Cargo Ship and soar around taking out transports this way. They literally cannot do anything to you. If you get the chance, let them take a planet then take it back for tech. The important thing is that you simply do not need weapon tech. You get that from Dreadlords. A

I massacre the Dreadlords. Even on the highest difficulty levels they have the repeated flaw I take rampant advantage of. They nail starbases, they aggressively hunt players, they conquer planets, etc.. But as long as you have a cargo ship or two with a single laser and a bunch of engines you can just outrun everything aggressive they throw at you and shoot down all their transports until you tech up to a ship that can beat theirs

I just installed Galactic Civilizations and seem to be unable to play movies correctly! This doesn't interfere with the gameplay proper, so I muddled through and learned that. However all movies hang at the first screen, not providing any updates: For instance, the Intro hangs and I can hear the music playing and the narrator talking. In the Tutorials all I see is the frozen first screen while the lady explains without demonstration. In the c
