From my understanding, a CRC check can be caused by anti-virus software or a hard drive problem. I know there have been issues in the past with people downloading Supreme Commander because of how massive it is. You might try right-clicking on the program and choosing the Verify Installation option and see if that helps. Also, try updating your sound card drivers and running a Windows Update.

Thanks for the updated explanation. So, to boil it all down- should Stardock spend time/resources on developing races as an option, only focus on factions, or some moderated combo? Looking at this from a reviewer's perspective, if you only provide two different races to choose from, you'll likely get docked points for lack of variety. I'd be in favor of either no race selection and really interesting/deep factions (does race really matter other than bonuses and appearance?
One other idea I'll throw out: How many of you remember Age of Mythology? It introduced the concept of leveling up your empire and making a choice between one of two Gods (depending on your race). Could Elemental have something like this? I'm not sure if it would be based on time, production, research, etc. or maybe even vary from race to race. But the value in this is that you aren't locked into one specific strategy for the game (unlike its predecessor Age of
I think by the end of GalCiv 2 (ToA) that the individual races finally had enough character with their own tech trees that they started to show their personality. Before then, though, it was selecting a race for the bonuses or customizing your own that was the real driving factor. I'd love to see some very deep history surrounding the different races/factions that would make me really want to play as them vs. just using their pre-made abilities. Here are some ideas that mi
I had no idea about that poll, either. Could we humbly request to get a notice about an important poll like this in the Developers' Journal? After Z4, I imagine things should be pretty stable. How exciting!
While we're on the advice front, I felt like Galactic Civilizations 2 did a decent job of doing analysis (you're the 3rd most powerful military in the galaxy), but what it didn't do was anything beyond that. What do I need to do to achive first place? Build more units? Build stronger units? Research some newer technology? The same can be said of economics, research, etc. While you could argue this would be like taking away the challenge of the game, this is
I'd be interested in knowing more on what an optional event tree would look like in-game. I'm having a hard time understanding what this means other than pop-up notifications. One other idea I'll throw out- the "advisors" wouldn't have to be people. It can just be a section of the UI or text-based. There's no need to having to create animated representations for the military advisor, economics advisor, magic, etc. It might help, but not needed. Another id
This may not apply exactly, but one of the features Worldwide Soccer Manager (aka Football Manager) implemented in the past few years was bolstering the advice of the assistant coaches. The game had so many options and strategies that having AI help you make choices made the game so much more playable and informative. Now, not all of the advice was good or accurate (it was your job as the manager to determine this), but the advice made the game so much more enjoyable. Advi
And I spoke too soon. There have finally been some recent posts, although not from our dear friend BoogieBac. I think he's still lost in characature-land, drawing up princesses and such.
Agreed. It seems the Twittering has, well, twittered out (like the post says), which is sad. It was fun while it lasted, though!
Most computers I support now are showing Windows 7 64-bit, except for the ultra-cheap/Best Buy specials. That's an encouraging trend.
Great to hear the 64-bit version of Havok is finally out. I was looking on Intel's site and still didn't find any reference to that being available. I'd think Intel would make a big announcement about that!
BoogieBac must have been abducted by that Twitter bird with the giant flaming sword. Hopefully it flies back with him sometime!
So, diplomacy = magic?
Isn't it great when bugs can turn into features? Things are progressing nicely. It's great to see updates, although I really wish you'd allow BoogieBac to be released from his coding prision. He needs to get out in the daylight at least every few months and post something about Elemental!
Makes sense, Brad. Nice video/commentary.
Isn't there a way to aggregate all of the Elemental Team twittering into this Team Elemental location? I don't tweet, so I'm speculating here. Thanks for the info, Cari!
Even something as simple as "looking at code x", "fixing the UI", "home sick", or "asking Brad for a raise" would be nice. It doesn't have to be anything too big or earth shattering, but it's nice to know you're alive, Scott! :)
I assume someone looked at these questions, but I'd love to see them answered, too!
I had the same problem a while back. I guess those things can happen from time to time. I ended up downloading Pidgin, which worked with no issues.
This would be a great way to track regressions or bugs that still exist. If this was done, it'd be really nice if the general Beta forum could house ALL posts, but if you posted in a specific sub-forum you'd only see posts for that forum.
Good to know. I'll have to give it a shot again.
Same here. Odd thing is that i know the CC i preordered with back then is still good. Now, since i want to participate in Phase 1, i just tried to reorder, which failed too. It didn't even let me place the order at all. Emailed sales@stardock and hope this gets resolved quickly, but the autoreply implies no Beta for me this week
Oooh. Maybe my credit card wasn't wrong, then. That's no good if you couldn't even pre-order nor
I tried using the built-in IRC client in Impulse, but whenever I typed something, it was always trying to interpret it as a command. So, I installed Pidgin instead. Was I just doing something wrong?
At least I'm not the only one. I've tried IRC, but need to wait until tomorrow. At least The Office is back on tonight!
