I went with the quad core keeping the future in mind. I've been quite happy with the performance, both in Sins as well as other games and general speed. While the dual core might be faster and consume a bit less wattage, I think it was a good call considering my video editing will take advantage of the multi-threading. p.s. SP1 for Vista is out.

Can you try running setup.exe as Administrator? Right-click the executable and choose Run as Administrator. I have Vista Ultimate and had no installation issues, FYI.

Just a suggestion- maybe the scuttling button could have a different graphic or be a bit more obvious about what it does. I only knew about it because I really paid attention during the tutorial, but the button's view doesn't give an impression of what it does inherently.
We're going to announce our finalize beta and release schedule shortly. Release Date is April. Part of that reason is we're upgrading our back end to have new features (like Impulse) and the other part is that I really want as much time as I can get away with to keep tweaking the computer AI before I have to move on to The Political Machine. Not to be patronizing, but are the 6 BILLION little obvious bugs that have crept through every patch going to be fixed by then? Things like the Xalax

Actually, my avatar is such because I provide Internet support for students at a University, so it's rather ironic. Although, now that you mention it, it is quite appropriate, Kruelgor. And I agree human intelligence is no match for single-player. It's just that humans are, well, a bit more unpredictable, and while that can be a good challenge, it can also result in things being too easy or not fun. I also don't have as much free time to spend on-line as I like to be around my kids a

Really awesome. If others contribute more info in here, I could see consolidating that info, updating as patches come out, and getting this promoted to a sticky. There's some really good to know game mechanics in here (as well as ideas for future patch improvements).

Vinraith isn't the multi-player type. I'm not, either, though, as that's what time allows for me and I dislike being thrown to the wolves if I'm no good or get either noobs or highly competitive opponents. But that's personal choice. Anyway... SD/IC seems to focus more on single than multi-player, though tries to accommodate both groups, which is tough. Kind of reminds me of the producers of Guild Wars, where they had a bunch of hard-core multi and single player gamers to try and ca

Brad- do you do all the AI for SD? And coordinate projects? And stay active in forums? And have a family? Are you sure Frogboy/Draginol/Brad aren't all different people? Conspiracy theory- Brad used the Multiplicity software on himself! ;) Thanks for the update. I don't envy your job, but am very thankful for what you do for your customers.

Nvidia released 174.53 for their GeForce 9 Series. Looking through the release notes, I haven't seen any open issues related to Sins. Does this driver for Vista fix any outstanding bugs that we know of? There have been a lot of references to the effect that Nvidia has some sort of video driver performance problems and how IC/SD were hoping to get it resolved? I also noticed that the GeForce driver for the 8 Series hasn't been updated since Dec. That's a long time i

Do you have SP1 yet? It's out. Also try updating your drivers, if they aren't already. There are some Vista specific patches out there, but I'm not sure if they are included with SP1 by default or not. You do have a fairly old video card for running 64-bit Windows. Maybe it's overheating.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I also forgot about the fact that if you're using 4 GB on 64-bit you get the full 4 GB, too, and not 3.2 GB (or whatever the system/video eats up first). So, even though 64-bit memory requirements are greater, you should still be well off.
Please do not only cater for multi player. Us single players are customers as well, just not as vocal.I would like to see options for SP speed of the game. I am new to this sort of things and the game still plays a little fast for me.I would also like to see some sort of colonization / invasion options in 1.1 If we could see some planet based building as well that would be great. Maybe an option for an expansion. Sort of like StarWars Empire at War.Cheers MarkL
marklaur-
Of everything mentionned here the point I agree most strongly with is: yes, Sins diplomacy needs serious work and we will be re-doing it (probably for the expansion).
Blair- Diplomacy won't be overhauled until the Expansion? I got the impression that it would be re-worked in patch 1.1. Or are there going to be two phases to the diplomacy improvements? Also, thanks for your thoughts as one of the creators on the game's role. That's cool

If you're going to go to 64-bit, you may want to consider more than 4 Gigs of RAM. Be careful, though, as many motherboards that support both DDR2 and DDR3 only allow up to 4 Gigs of DD3 (just FYI). 64-bit registers take up double the space of 32-bit, so you in essence need more (not double, though) RAM on a 64-bit platform to equate to the same as 32-bit.

It's clear to me that what defines an RTS and what defines a 4X game vary by what games a person has played in the past and also (and maybe more importantly) what they expected from Sins before playing and after. Out of curiosity, I looked up RTS and 4X in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-time_strategy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4X Sins certainly fits the RTS genre based on that. And there are some 4X elements in there, but not nearly as in-depth as

Is it possible Sins is being labeled/thought of as 4x because it bills itself (I think rightly so) as a strategy game? Regardless, some key differentiators between 4x and RTS for me are: *Pacing (like Brad mentioned). In RTSes, you *have* to know the keyboard shortcuts to respond quickly to threats. *Research depth. RTSes typically have short research trees (usually with 4 distinct ages or so). Sins goes pretty deep in a variety of areas in comparison with most RTSe
