My guess is hell yes it will be supported.
Brad has already stated DX9 will not be supported in GalCiv III They have written a brand new 64bit DirectX 10/11 3D engine. As far as GalCiv III is concerned, DX9 is dead.
so this game might turn out really really good or really really bad.
Really Really good - especially as they already had a problem with a game (a long time ago). 'Ol developer saying ..... once bitten, twice shy, thrice you die ..... You can be sure Brad is well aware of that. If it does goes wrong, the difference with Stardock is they will fix it at no cost, and give a bonus for staying the

They don't have to - it'll just be a case that GalCiv will not run win7/DirectX9. We will see in a few weeks, my betting is still on Win7/DirectX10 minimum
Uhm, Windows Vista supports 64bit and DirectX 10. So if they support DirectX 10, they will go below Windows 7
Hell will freeze over before Brad goes anywhere near Vista for GalCiv III
Zydor, I don't think you need worry about it.
Oh.... I'm not worried. .... Brad has many attributes, insanity is not one of them. GalCiv will turn into a "shoot-em-up" tactical game only if hell freezes over - even then he'll stall .... [e digicons]|-)[/e]
It'll be a cold day in hell before they restrict this to Win8. Win7 will be fine, but that's as far down the totem pole they will be going. They are after fully fledged 64bit with all the bells and whistles, no way will they go below Win7.
Have they said when they are giong to say what they are going to do ?
You'll find out on first Alpha Release - or at least the first Alpha Release those with Founders Elite Edition get access to. There is zero chance of debate - its been debated so many times over the years its unreal - just a case of seeing the final result for GalCiv 3.
If Stardock announces tactical combat of any kind, I'm going to be watching your reaction.
You will not be able to - I'll be gone. An action that is not going to bring Stardock to its knees - only the Naïve believe that. If they turn it into a Tactical War, that's cool, its their game - it just will not be for me. If its a Combat Box that turns on or off depending on preferences - that's fine. If its m
Gets my vote - many times I curse in a similar way trying to find the detail of, or the main explanation for, a Tech/New Ability/blah blah, in Civilization, and/or related weapons and technologies. I have increasingly found this the case with GalCiv. As the game expanded over the years its become quite a problem in Civilization - its getting that way now with GalCiv. A simple key word search ability would meet the need nicely, with the output highlighting the related techs,
Hopefully, random events will be more balanced in GCIII.
Gets my vote - they MUST make sense and be balanced. Staring at literally hundreds of silly orange blobs tossed in by Jagged Knife instantaineously - and the realisation I got to plough through, very tediously, one by one to get rid of the stupid things - had me reaching for the new game switch and cursing myself I had forgotten to turn off
Tech Trees are as a result of the needs of the Core design of the Game. Not the other way around. As an abstraction ...... its pointless creating some kind of complex tree ending up at the top end with some miniaturised super-weapon vaporising all before it, if it does not fit the Game Flow. There are limits to that - of course - as base weapons for the core game must be created there - surprise - but as soon as you go past the Core elements, there has to be a need
but with the fighters idea it can open the door to a LOT of diversity
Another Carrier thread (without Carriers these "Fighters" are useless).... want a fighter - use ship builder to make one, along with its inevitable tactical resource limiting effects built into the ship builder, let alone its very limited ability to travel from System to System. GalCiv is a Strategic level game, and Brad has stated zillions of times, Carriers are not happening - its
GalCiv III will have its own, brand new set of bugs. There's no GalCiv II code in GalCiv III.
Bug hunting starts from scratch .... its a Code rewrite from top to bottom.
Stardock have always built in a "sense of humour" into the software. It can get overdone and irritating, but Stardock always seem to get the balance right, not over done. I suspect the programmers also enjoy giving a more human edge to the software - win-win [e digicons]|-)[/e]
GalCiv3 is a Major rewrite on many levels, "old bugs" will not be relevant - would be like looking for a gas leek when you have an electrical fault. Bug hunting starts with a clean GalCiv3 sheet
Zydor, I am beginning to think that much of this discussion is based on individual definitions of "tactics" or "tactical battles".
I think you hit the nail on the head .... I await the initial Alpha Rushes with interest

This one (GalCiv TBS/RTS) usually goes round in circles - been that way for years, and in that regard I guess things will never change. But I will say one final thing, anyone who believes a Games House is going to suddenly do a 180 degree turn after already investing in the Core TBS Code via a V1 and a V2, and flippantly change it to RTS ..... sorry, but they live in a fantasy world so far from Commercial Reality, you might as well declare personal piggy-banks are
It could be the day after tomorrow then...
Tomorrow never comes ..... fortunately. Brad has stated very firmly it will not be RTS, ever. I cannot see how that's not clear, or even start to believe its an unambiguous statement. Let alone the fact that he has put countless hundreds of hours of personal time building the best TBS AI in the Industry - like he really is going to dump that and re-write for a RT
So I'm really asking the question: is turn base compatible with multiplayer video game???
GalCiv is TBS and its staying that way, Brad has stated very firmly over the years he has no intention of changing that. Multi-Player has been sorted out - and that's cool, its certainly overdue, all for it, even though I don't do On-Line multi-player. .... but GalCiv turning into RTS? Hell will freeze over first <
