"A slender acquaintance with the world must convince every man that actions, not words, are the true criterion of the attachment of friends" George Washington I hope the future will still allow the words of George Washington to remain a voice of common sense, and we remain able to assist one another where humanly possible, despite the antics of an idiotic minority who just like the sound of their own voices ...... AOEIII but then it was my fault, I hate RTS as you end up having to "beat the AI" in terms of speed, and minimal to zero chance of original thought. So called "strategy" goes out the window in RTS - and you end up with a poor-man's substitute for what strategy is really about. In my mind RTS is just a frilled up "shoot em up", and just as pointless. Many said they liked it, and why, so I thought "hey why not, so many cant be wrong". They were, I loath the dam thing.

Cloud Computing is an attempt to get a concept into the minds of the less technically inclined at a Business level. To even start explaining to a Business Level exec (etc) the detail of remote services, on line storage, Web Marketing, leasing software components yaddie yaddie yadda, is a fruitless exercise - as would be explaining the real intricacies (as opposed to ill-informed emotional rumour) of the Stock Market to a technical Guru who spends their life up to their armpits in

The whole thing depends what you want to do with it. A Mega power rig is one thing, its a little pointless if in reality it just sits licking its lips but not much else ..... and all the latent power goes to waste. Its highly likely that a "standard" entry level quad and "average" hard disks (circa 300Gb each - get two, so you can have a totally separate load of the Op Sys for those times of hassle and woa, and easy BackUp), would do you well. Its going to be a

I like the focus on useability without going through hoops and loops to use the game you just paid for - the latter is really, really irritating. I suspect the push back will come from those whose sole interest if to maximise revenue and dont care about the consequencies for others. They need to get the age old message that 80% of reward comes from 20% of the effort. To close that last 20% of reward to perfection, requires a massive 80% of effort. Its the quest for u

Brad - is it possible for the Conference to produce a transcript or mp3 of it? Even my enthusiasm for Stardock/GC2 et al doesnt stretch to a 16,000 mile return trip - you guys are good ......... ........ but not that good [e digicons][/e] Regards Zy

Who cares who released what first and who is clone of who yaddie yadda. Its a good Utility that works well, and doubtless will be improved upon as time goes on, as these things tend to be - its not practical to do the "ultimate" on first release, not the real world. ..... lifes too short - especially when its free ...... If all you are doing - Primarily - is converting image file formats, then download Irfanview. Its free to Private Users, Commercial Users pay full price. Its been around for a long time, first came out in 1996, and does its job well. For the use described above, it will be a better bet than GIMP - the latter is a full fledged editor. Irfanview will edit files, but its great strength is the wide file format ability. It will also be asier to use than GIMP in a GalCiv mod

I had a FireFox issue for a few days end last week/early this week, dam thing would not stay up, kept closing down, had to use IE. Then 2 days ago it chirps up "applied an update "(sic) for your benefit as a valued client" (euphamistic paraphrasing) - and it was a rapid (3/4 seconds) update. No hassle since. I get a feeling there was an "oooppss" in the background and a rapid fix came out. Whatever the scenario, it appears fine now. Reghards Zy

The easiest way around this is: 1. Get hold of a graphics package - there are Zillions out there, shareware, freeware, what-ever-ware, other than Paint. Paint is a Dog, its ok for real - reeeeeeal - basic stuff but thats as far as it goes. It was born as a freebie back in the pre-dark ages, and not changed a lot since. Its better than nothing - thats for sure - however there are Zillions of graphics alternative out there. Google is your friend .....

Too many remarks are made based on existing knowledge and experience, that together with personal preferrences is a heady and often misguided mix. Basing judgements on existing performance and currently visible features when a new Genre breaks into the market place is very often Fools Gold, as the abilities and facilities of yet to be visible facilities are what eventually rule the roost. Judgements need (at this stage) to be based in philosophical terms - ie who has the better

The Major difference between the two is the background services offered to developers and distributors, for Impulse that does not come out until Phase 3 later this year. When it does, I'll bet my future pension it blows away Steam in that regard, and in the long term that will be the deciding factor. Fans go where they can get their Game. If its only one place, thats where they will go - reluctant or not. The up front functionality is important

The numbers of people without multi core in a couple of years will be very small. In any case this code is written "use multi / gpu" if available. New methodologies, new rules, more possibilities - and there is no need to leave anyone behind - just takes development will to go for it and throw the comfort blanket of the old rule book away. Its been done already, and the results are plain to see. Now it just takes the courage to be a trail blazer for general use -

I reckon the biggest Plus that GalCiv3 could give us is Parrallell Systems/Processing - ie proper use of multi-core and the underused GPU. The latent power sitting on User desktops right now is terrifying. The first one to bite the bullet and really grip the whole question of proper use of multi-core and gpu processing in the Games industry, is going to take the market by Storm - quite literally. It just needs the courage to do it and take the initial hit on cost ...... I re
To Zydor, I have a 550wa PSU, but its a real power pro from coolermaster, and my system without too many perph's is barely loaded at max. I do believe the 9850BE uses a touch more power, and I know my HD 4870does. Though there is one major diffrerence; your PSU is 3 years old, mine is about 1.5 years old. 700 would still be overkill.
I have a four hard drive array, and an external PC powered SSD, as well as all the other usual clagage, hence the 700w is groaning a bit -
