I've played GalCiv II now for months to the point I find no challenge in it as have all my family and friends. Our only real enjoyment at this point is arguing whos methods and tactics are the better. I didnt mind single player only when I purchased it but at this point the game is shelved until I have that ability. I have no interest in playing Joe Schmuck off the net I want to play my friends at the lan party in the next room.

I only play suicidal lvl. I grab what planets are reasonably close. I focus on diplomacy and totally ignore influence. I research nothing but diplomacy until I reach Majesty. I research the entire Xeno economics tree then Sensors. Once I do this I either trade or puppet master others into war. Pretty much the games won at this point and I get bored. Right now I'm trying to find a tactic of bum rushing military conquest that works on suicidal for a challenge.
Reading everyones posts whining about Bi-peds vs some Truly shocking and unconventional form is really just silly. Arguing evolution theory on a galactic scale is like arguing religon ..... silly and pointless. 80% of this is flames of someone else. Let it go agree to disagree.
I consistantly dominate with minimal thought to high populations. On the times I bother at all I preplan what planet will be my breeding pit. Make it the one with the most Morale tiles. Put your economic and political capitals on it and fill up on Stock Exchanges. Economy starbases if you feel real frisky and your invasion breeding center is ready to roll. Pop out troop transports with 1 troop on them from your industry center and stack them outside the world. Siphon off troops to store for late
I play and win on suicidal regularly and actually rely very little on starbases. I find on suicidal they simply have no survivablity. Diplomacy is the key, Why you turn off tech trading if you focus on diplomacy you will be so far ahead of other races you never need research a thing even on suicidal. A spin control center is usually enough to keep all the kids in line til your ready to make your move to victory.
Have any of you wondered how a 1000 troop transport counquers 5 bilion people ( or whatever lives there) ?? i always wondered why peaple search reallity in computer games ever notice that 1000 troops is actually 1 billion of your population? If you want the whole fighter justification thing its not to hard to imagine your way right t
If the default troop setting was 1 instead of full then your complaint would be "when you have your starport sending transports to a rally point they only have 1 troop on them what kinda idiots would make a game do that ". They Exist to invade planets, yeah you can use other things but the vast majority of us rather they be full of big mean nasty infantry. As an issue this rates just above "why isnt pluto in Terran system OMGZERS!"
Gigantic , 9players random (I usually play custom race) everything else random, blind exploration on, no tech trading , Suicidal. I want epic showdowns with a true dynamic universe. I find using custom races makes things tougher because everyone has ethical problems with you. Adds spice, I love big whomping war's and enemies on all sides. Winning just becomes so much more gratifying.
They do build massive amounts of influence buildings. Keeping minors minor while still allowing them to colonize and have some sway in the universe is the trick. I would say the easiest thing would be to have the minor AI's intelligence parse with your difficulty setting. Playing 1 or 2 intelligence lvls below the major's. Just a toss of the hat for you to consider.
I usually have advanced gov. very early and I go conquest never had an issue with moral. We're talking Suicidal lvl games. guess its all on how you play.
No save games will load for me. I played for awhile and saved went to bed the next day attempted to load my saved game and crashed, tried autosave crashed as well. I have Gal Civ2 on 3 computers and all of them have this problem since last patch to BETA. There are so many different techs buildings events minig resources etc that effect morale it would take a very long time to start from scratch and explain it all to you i suggest you browse the forums carefully and read all you find on the subject. It will make you a much much better player.
seen em twice cakewalked em both times. Donno how yall found super pirates. I personally would prefer far more common occurences of small pirate fleets jumping trade routes.
Start with digital Downloads for the expansion. Let us pay online and d/l it to enhance our already purchased game. Release retail a boxed version at a later date add in bonus material to encourage me to buy the box even if I purchased the Download. 19.95 for d/l and then 4months later i decide to get the box version for the same amount because it has 2 new hull design series and X other cool thing the D/L didnt. My opinion.
I see alot of people post on being gang banged by the computer. Simple fact is your probably not watching your charts. Every race has a report page that shows the +'s and -'s in your relationships. Your all being attacked most likely early on for having very few military ships built. The A.I. assumes with no fleet to defend your a cakewalk and the fact you are at war with someone else who shows as stronger than you makes others join in the fun.
You have it all wrong harper. Evil gets th emost out of Xeno ethics earlier is better. First time you see psionic beams in effect you will understand. Twice the damage as non evil weapons at same tech lvl? Sign me up papa!
The scoring is broke for sure. I dont think you can "fix" it by scoring more for longer games etc. The point of the game is to dominate the Galaxy, Fairly sure everyone can agree with that. So how you win should not effect your score at all. I know Regardless which way I win safe to say I flexed all my muscles military, diplomatic and influence. How your civilization stacks up to the other races when the smoke clears is what should matter. A simple mu
Tiles make them capturable.
Have been playing the game for a week now and having much fun doing well etc. I room with my 2brothers and they have both started playing as well. The other day i walked in on 1 playing Gal Civ II and he was cussing up a storm. Seems that rather early in the game hed been drug into war with 5 out of 6 discovered empires. 1 of his planets was camped by enemy fleets and his other 2 were barely holding on. I coached him awhile over his shoulder a
The reason the guy next to you is always a great big empire and bully is because you let him be one. My immediate neighbors are usually only as strong as I allow them to be. I either A. Stomp on them myself graba planet or 2 smoke all thier starbases and take a few resources to mine from them then after a few turns of stomping them offer peace on my terms. Or I pay everyone else to do it for me. Honestly you can do this even if out teched or outgunned
Also makes them more survivable if they can scoot faster. Since you can make incredibly fast frieghters its a rather good tactic. Ever watch 6 yor fleets chase a single frieghter across a Gigantic galaxy for 20turns only to run slam into Big brother and his fleet of Lucky Rangers? I liked it so much i had to save them game just to show my friends. Mucho Yor Space dust <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absm
#567 The badder your ship looks, the lower the morale of hostile ships. Maybe the bigger the hull and more structural units you have compared to the enemy ship could yield a + or - morale modifier value for that ship. So if your ship is tiny and theirs is large then that would increase their morale and decrease yours. If you have a large hull and so does the enemy, but yours has 50 additional structural units added on and theirs has 20, then
I "think" this would be an "easy" thing to put in. Expeditionary Forces, I want to Loan ships to another race. This has multiple uses. I can help out an empire militarily without actually going to war. My units gain experience and I can recall them when I want to. The recieving empire pays for thier upkeep saving me cash while in use. Allowing stations to be used in this way can truly make some great tactical moves. Some examples of this would be like
I like what I see on the patch. One thing I'd really like to see is the ability to decide how many minor races are in a game. Also give them a little more AI help. I like a rich galaxy with races tripping over each other. Especially if these minor races have some bite to them. They dont have to progress like major races but being some amount of a threat would be welcome especially if backed by a major race.
The ship upgrade costs are suspect, at best. They seem like they might be higher than intended (higher than the cost of a new ship?). Well yeah you can turn your outdated junk into frontline units again in 1 turn rather than building a new ship every 10+ turns 1 at a time. It costs but is immediate s
