I typically start with drive research to get to the Ion Drive, then I get Planetary Improvements, then for sensor so that I can build survey ships, then get the tech necessary for all 3 capitals, after that I don't really have a plan... What order/system do you guys follow?

Say you want to trade with the Torians, but they are located beyond the Drengin, so your trade ships will have to pass through the Drengin territory. Now you know that the Drengin, being the Drengin are likely to go to war with you and start shooting down your freighters. It would be nice if you could set the trade route to go AROUND the Drengin, perhaps through some neutral territory or through some other race's space that is more out of harm's way. Basically it would be nice if by def

I mean exactly. Is there a way to see how much, say, an economic resources benefiting your economy or a technological resource your technology? Or military resource your military? You get the idea. I just feel odd building all those starbases without knowing what benefit they are actually giving me...

I notice a lot of people talk about using tiny ships as scouts in the early game, but I have always made my early scouts out of Cargo ships. They can fit a lot of engines and sensors, making them very efficient at quickly exploring large chunks of space. Plus it's fun to design large deep-space research vessels in the ship editor.

I would like to move it from XP to Vista to keep the ship designs I have created. Where is that file and what is it called. Also, on a related note, as I understand it, in order for the ship to show up in the next game you play using that same side, and for the computer to use your ship designs, you need to mark "add to templates" or something along those lines when you save a new design, right? Thanks

When I try to play the game, everything works fine, and I never experience crashes. However, when I try to move the screen across the map in-game or to zoom in/out, my framerate drops to under 10. This is not a performance issue due to weak hardware, since on XP, I run this game just fine, and the slowdown occurs only when I try to move the map. Also I have tried to run lower resolutions and less detail and AA, that does not change anything. Here are my specs: X2 3800+ NVIDIA ge

OD connections? What's that? I solved the problem using system restore to pre-stardock state, and it started. Since they installed software piece by piece. All seems to be working so far...

My sysytem: A64 X2 3800+ 2 gig RAM Maxtor DM10 250GB HD NVIDIA 6800 GT Asus A8N-E Windows XP Professional SP1 After I installed Object Dock and set preference that it start when the system starts, at first I experienced slower startup - normally the desktop would be complete and the startup sound would play, but with Object Dock there it would play the sound on the blue screen that precededs the desktop and the take some more time to load to desktop. Then anot

Hey guys, I would appreciate help with this. I have been playing around with Icon Packager, and successfully changed all the icons I wanted, and 95% of eerything works just fine. However, there are a few icons that revert back to windows default when I restart the system. These are: -My Computer -My Documents -Printers -My Network Places -Control Panel -Help -Search -Run All of these icons are to be found in the right half of the XP start menu. All other

My point is that with 10 races there is a lot more potential to implement an involved backstory of the interaction between them and make each race unique than the developers have done. That you can make each race whatever you want is precicely what ruins I think. And yes, I do think that if this game forced you have the races a certain way, it would create much more of an individual race identity than actually exists.

To Oldstatesman. My point is not that you should pick the same bonuses. You can pick whatever you want. My point is that if you do pick the same bonues, to you as a player evey single race will play the same, with a few exceptions. Bonuses are what defines strengths and weaknesses between races, and since you CAN pick same bonuses for every race, to the player those races feel the same. And while we are on the topic, I remember a post on the

My point is that different races do not seem to have an identity of their own. Playing as torians is no different than playing as terrans as long as u pick the same bonuses. Yes you get to pick them, but what's the point of having 10 different races when they play the same, except the starships are different color. If there are hidden bonuses that are not shown on the interface, I think they should be made apparent, because then it would mak

I have been playing this game since the day it came out and one thing stands out to me. With the ability to modify any civilization's abilities, there seems to be very little intirinsic difference between sides. Outside of graphics and one ability (such as +6 logistics for Humans) and starting technologies, of which some races simply have more, rather than having advantages in certain areas of the tech tree, there is basically no difference between dif
