I count to one, Darkness blots out the sun. I count to two and I miss you. I count to three, I still can't see. I count to four, I can't take anymore. I count to five...and Im still alive. I count to six, I realize there are many things I need to fix. I count to seven, although it feels like eleven. I count to eight and then I sit up straight. I count to nine, I still have a lot of time. I count to ten and then I count all over again. This is not my p

Obviously, it would have to be a stand-alone editor that runs outside of the game. Like the Create-A-Sim thing for the Sims. Sims runs real-time, and you can use their editor to create finely-tuned characters outside of the game, them import them in as you see fit. It's not so hard from that point of view. Or, if you don't like Sims, then the character editor for Oblivion, or the one for (ugh) the Godfather game, or a host of other titles.

I would love to see this. I won't hold my breath waiting for it, though. The Ship Creator was my all-time favourite part from GalCiv II, and considering all of the fantastic features that are in that game, that's saying a lot. In fact, I would suggest that the Ship Creator is one of the best features ever included in any video game ever made, right up there with mouse movement in shooter games, the alarm clock in Civ 4, and the invention of the internet-based game server. And to thin

I name all of my planets and my ships after my wife, her best friends, and anything else she likes at the time. That way, she seems to recognize that I remember who she is, and then I get more time to play computer games. I guess if you're single, you can name things after mythology and TV shows, but those days are long gone for me.

This is going a bit off-topic, but I cannot imagine what it would be like for another civilization on another planet being so powerful so as to take over the Earth with nothing but beamed-in culture. It's a good thing we have Britney and Brangelina and Madonna and all the rest to keep our media busy so that humankind is not overwhelmed from messages from outer space.

I see the light, now. Unfortunately, it's coming from an Advent task force, but no matter. I mean, after they are done, no matter, as in no matter will be left. I am speaking of my own personal discovery that gigantic-scale space battles in Sins are super-amazing, at least since the latest patch. I ordinarily do not play on the big maps because I find I get lost or frustrated trying to pick up the pieces after I save the game for the night and pick it up aga

I would suggest that any bomber pilot facing attack from the ground would recieve orders to avoid certain defensive emplacements on the ground, in the form of zig-zag waypoints. Certainly, in an arena like Viet Nam, where the American ROE's were influenced largely by politicians sitting in Washington DC, there were some very complicated/improbable/unhelpful orders regarding exactly how and when strike packages should arrive on target. If you were a "Wild Weasel" pilot, you might be forced to d

While it may be an interesting thought-exercise to re-invent the wheel (Google "Rouleax Triangle"), I frankly don't see the need to actually re-invent it. I'm used to the way game companies are doing business. Generally, I approve of how game companies work. I'm not looking for innovation in their Customer Support Department, but rather innovation in the games themselves. Ideally, a game shouldn't need patches at all, right? If that were the case, if you wanted more game content,

One thing I would like to see modded are the in-game voices. I do think the quality of voice acting is high (but not excellent). The voices are distinct and clear, they are mildly gimmicky but not over-processed, and they do the job. Kudos to the voice actors. Where I feel the voices stumble is in their direction. In my opinion, either the dialogue editor/director was too laissez-faire, or else the actors were allowed to think up their own stuff, or the most like

Most games these days don't have a campaign that's all that hard to beat, at least on a normal level. Supreme Commander I beat, and so I also beat Company Of Heroes and World In Conflict. (All of the bigtime gaming geeks are going OOOOooooo!! with their sarcastic voices, but I am pleased with myself that I beat those games) I have no illusions about the story-telling abilities of most game developers. A game developer is primarily interested in making money, not fan fiction. Usually

@Damien: If memory serves, the Alkari out of the Masters Of Orion universe were bird-like. And some interesting trivia for Earthings: there are no inedible birds. Anyone can eat any bird they like. Personally, I would like to see aliens who use flying saucers. There's a lot of flying saucer lore out there, but they just don't seem to be sexy enough for the kids raised in the digital video generation who do modelling these days. Still, a flying saucer, despite its visual simplicity

That clock in Civilization is one of its best features. The game devs KNEW that their game was going to eat your free time, so they put in the clock. That strikes me as being totally cool and confident. It's the Steve McQueen of game features. I have trouble finding the time to get through an entire game of Sins, although, like Supreme Commander, there are real-time exploits that an experienced player can use to speed things along. Sometimes, when I save up in Sins, I have difficu

Yeah, it's a conceit of the video game industry that there have to be humans in all of the games, or in most of the good ones, anyway. As a human, I'm not complaining too strongly. Sometimes I like to watch Ridley Scott's film "Alien", and imagine what it would be like a few thousand years from now when the signals from the broadcast of that film reaches intelligent life on some faraway star. From the Alien's point of view, that film would be frickin' hilarious, like watching a Three

Why should there be humans at all in an interstellar war? If the humans are to be depicted at all, they should be just a crowd of self-absorbed hairy brown, pink, and yellow worms with arms and legs that when they are not shooting one another or running over themselves with hydro-carbon fuelled vehicles, they are wearing digital watches and generating a near-endless stream of text messages about Britney Spears and Brangelina. Just like how it is in the current interstallar war, you know, the o

I freely admit that I hate all elves. LOTR elves, space elves/Eldar, dark elves, light elves, green elves, brown elves, orange and blue striped elves, Elfquest elves, Christmas elves, Keebler elves. I'm just sick of seeing them. An elf in a game means to me that the developer couldn't be bothered to think of anything better, of which just about anything is better than elves. I have to get this out on the table. I realize that I am not in agreement wit

Rebellion had its good moments. Building eight Death Stars and obliterating the galaxy to get at one teeny Rebel base was fun. But ultimately it was a flawed game, in my opinion. Ugly as all get-out, that's for sure. Empire At War seems to be an improvement on Rebellion, especially in the graphics department. The space battles are still vivid and appealing. The tactical combat and the ground combat, though, just isn't so much fun. I think that Sins does not have ground c

There's a lot of untapped great amateur voice talent on the web. I did some very very minor help for someone working on another game who needed some voices for their tutorials. My brilliant idea was to just ask folks in the forum if they had any voice experience. ("Brilliant" is overstated with an arch, ironical tone) It turned out that there were nearly a dozen people in our forum with radio, stage, and screen experience. They either supplied links to their websites or uploaded sma

Don't be silly. If you put Rome:Total War in space, the Fire Pigs would never ignite. Some kind of smiley-faced emoticon goes here. Seriously, though, I am with you on this one, although I would question the "ease" of adding more features. I would imagine that the devs already did all of the easy stuff they could think of. That, and as people are sure to point out, Rome isn't a real-time game at the strategy level. Maybe a closer match would be Star Wars Empire At War, al

I don't feel that either game is terribly expensive. If you can afford to buy both, then do so. Of course, if you can do that, then you should consider buying games for all of us, too. Or at least me. I had a lot of trouble setting up a private server for WiC, so if you want to play private games with your friends, and anybody has a router then you may run into problems. I haven't had the time to play out a game of Sins in Multiplayer, so I cannot comment on connectivity. Althoug

When my wife tells me to not get upset when she goes into rant mode, that's usually a cue for a brouhaha. I totally get that vibe reading the top post, although I absolutely do not want the make-up sex in this case. I don't think it's kosher to say what you want and then deny others their own opinion, although it's a common enough strategy in my household when someone wants to pick a fight. It just doesn't seem to me a very productive means of communication, unless you like fights.

Fire in space is very dangerous, but certainly not impossible. Look at the sun if you aren't convinced. NO, WAIT, DON'T!!! Ahh, too late, if only he was reading this message at night... Well, in any case, fire in space is possible if you have a) combustible materials, b) combustible atmosphere, and c) a sufficient source of ignition. The problem with fire in space is that it tends to drastically use up b). Cracking open a capital ship and setting fire to all the stuff that
