This might seem really basic, but trust me, this is the best way to defeat "writer's block": sketch out what you want to see in your ships on paper first. Once you have a visual reference you can work from, the process of assembling 3D models becomes much easier. I realize that the stuff you draw and the parts you have to work with are different, but this method is fast, easy, and never fails. Working straight from your imagination can work, too, but more often than not, it leads to frustrati

When you were talking about changing the movies, I thought you were going to talk about geek stuff like how in the movie at the beginning of the campaign, the little shuttle ships landing on the landing pads appear to obey a gravity source that is obviously "down" when the landing pads are in open space, and the biggest apparent gravity source would be the planet, which is more or less "forward".
When I won at MOO3 by repeatedly pressing the enter button, that was the end of the game's life on my hard drive. Admittedly, I didn't have the AI set to a difficult level, but the game automatically populated my planets, sent out colonies, and populated those planets. After a while I had so much population that I was voted in as the galactic ruler. There were no wars or space battles, just population growth and expansion until the end of the game.
Man, I love those squirrels! I saw them in the Gamespot review. They are my default pic for my custom civ, the Squirrelians. Okay, I admit, not the most creative name, but I really groove on the concept of Admiral Macadamia on board the flying bridge of his gigantic Walnut-class dreadnaught, barking out orders to his crew, which look like they're in the setup from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Meanwhile, blunt-nosed Squirrelian dropcraft are
Wow, there's a lot of reading here, and many, many great ideas. Many of my comments are seconds of others' ideas, but I'd like to bring them up, as well as some of my own: + A previous/next button on the main display, with a pull-down menu for ships, suns, spacestations, etc. that would allow me to highlight the previous or next item on the big screen without having to dive into sub-screens or re-zoom the big screen. + Arrow keys move the main map, and have diagonal moveme
