Yes. You have to spend, but you must control the rate of spending. Moderation in all things! If you spend too fast, or jerk around your tax rate too much, your civilization will suffer economic "rubberbanding" as your citizens try to cope with the changes. That affects their morale, their ability to produce, and the amount of money you can expect to get. Of course, one easy way to help yourself to more money is to give your civ big fina

I've never tried this, but I remember hearing that if you give minor races colony ships, that they colonize very aggressively, and are a real bear to get rid of once they start to spread. I could be wrong though. I don't want to be crushed under the blood-stained jackboots of a Snathi Universal Extermination Task Force.

I would like to see (many have already been mentioned here): + More variety in the weapons firing, explosions, and sounds in the battles + More sound cues in the game, more music + More races, ability to apply custom races to AI + Multiplayer + Non-linear (or less linear campaign) + "Hero" units + Comets, asteroids, and anomalies that require higher-level sensors to find them/anomalies that regenerate + More diplomacy and espionage options + Mor

You can "obsolete" core ships, which will get them out of your way for the game you are currently in. You're not supposed to delete core ships. But I agree, it would be nice. I like the names the core ships have, so it's mildly galling to have to name my own ships something a little less intuitive. As for very quick design, you can use the PLACE button to have the computer pick harpoints on the hull for your stuff. It never looks prett

Each Starbase has an area around it that it affects. Once you build the base, you have 3 choices, Military, Economy, and Influence. The Starbase affects its area depending on what type of base you pick. The next thing you want to do is dock Constructors with the base to add modules to improve it. The more modules you add, the more powerful your Starbase becomes. You can't move the Starbase, but you can destroy it and build another in a n

Bigger maps would make trade more important than on smaller maps, I would think. Of course, if you are totally warlike, then trade is weak as well, as trade is cancelled out by war. It's probably not easy to stay peaceful and pacifist on a small map, so trade may not help so much.

What bugs me about the rename starbase is that you can't edit the name directly. As soon as you try, the box blanks out. So when it says "Military Starbase 343", and you want to name it "Military Starbase 1", you can't just edit the 343 into a 1, you have to retype the whole thing. It's a minor complaint, but it also stops me from wanting to rename the bases.

"The Empire Strikes Back" was written by Leigh Brackett, who among TV and movie scripts, wrote a lot of fantasy and science fiction. Personally, I think that he had his good stuff and his bad stuff, but his good stuff was really, really good. He also scripted my favorite Western movie of all-time, "Rio Bravo". He more or less did for John Wayne in that movie what he did for Harrison Ford in TESB. If you want great movie dialogue, you owe it to your

I wonder about that EULA bit 'If this software breaks your computer it's not our problem' , where there is a problem with the software that does cause computer issues. I speak of "The Movies", where disk 2 shipped with a computer virus. Not that I understand all of the language in EULA's to begin with, but I do read them, and they do vary quite a bit. Ones that require you to maintain an Internet connection while playing the game, and on

Well... there are a number of things it doesn't pay to comment on in the Internet, especially in forums. I would be lying if I said I haven't made my share of bonehead comments myself, including the stuff above. I feel that I have stepped over the line of decency, and so I also apologize to you, as well.

I get the turn button going missing if I am messing around with fleets. If I have ships join up in a fleet that already has a waypoint set, then the button goes missing. Simply select all of your fleets one at a time and have them move 1 space manually. That should fix the turn button. As for v1.1beta issues, I am getting CTD's now, the audio volume knobs seem to only work sporadiccaly, and rotating some items on the ship screen either

I already have poor vison. It may come as a shock and surprise to some folks that others who have poor eyes do still enjoy buying and playing video games. We also watch televison, too. Sometimes, we even drive our cars and go out and buy groceries and stuff. "Buy some glasses". You should really be ashamed. I mean, really. Grow up. I may need to wear glasses to see, but you need to wear boxing gloves before you choose to t

I have a suggestion for Stardock to improve the visibility of some of the information screens. I like to play Microsoft Flight Simulator at high resolution because it makes the scenery look better. One problem with very high resolutions is that it makes the airplane guages difficult to read, because all of the read-outs become very tiny. I have the same issue with GC2, especially with the ship launch screen at the bottom of the main display. The sh

I didn't think of that, but if it were true, then Iron Balls McGinty should never venture into space. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0331956/ http://www.answers.com/topic/iron-balls-mcginty Above are two links for two different Iron Balls McGinty's

I ran into this quote playing GC2 yesterday, and it made me both laugh and think: "Just when the survey team thought there was nothing of value, the Captain saw something shiny on the surface of the anomaly. He picked up a coin worth 1BC and was noted as saying, "It must be my lucky day!" Now that has to be the most understated quote in the entire game! I remember as a teenager, well over twenty years ago, freaking out when I fo

It is recommended that you use an editor, such as MS-FrontPage when creating your content. This will help to decrease errors, such as spelling and "grammer" (sp.) and ensure reliable code creation when copying to the body field. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am not the world's hottest speller or typist, but w
