GC2 doesn't let you have that choice. It applies those tech points to the "next" tech. The game ought to allow you to choose where the research goes, rather than just assuming that you want the next one. So it's misapplying a fraction of a week's production. BFD. It's not losing any research points, and you'll probably want those follow-on techs eventually.

Additionally since a ship can only fire at one target per turn, I dont have to worry about overkill, ei. if a ship has only 2 HP left my ship with 15 attack is wated on only 2 HP. And once the guns get *really* big, the large-ship side will be wasting attack points on overkill -- swatting your 10-hp fighters with 30-point attacks. Always tradeoffs, though. If you aren't winning the vast majority of fights, you have to watc

Do you not have the Trade tech, but only Advanced Trade? I believe the trade module is tied to the former. That's really the same as the weapon techs -- if you buy or steal Laser III before developing Laser II, you can't put Laser II on your ships (which might be cheaper).

Since you've been winning a lot of battles, some of your ships should be levelled up pretty substantially. Keep an eye on them, name some of the highest-level ones, and when you start seeing huge ships, whack them with "hero fleets".

Consider things like the planetary invasion line, where each step of the way gives you an additional +10 soldiering, or the equivalent in diplomacy, morale, miniaturization, etc. Skipping a step by stealing or buying tech isn't as effective as getting every step in between.

Also, I believe there WAS a shield, but I saw NO ships. What do you do if there is a shield to see and then subsequently attack the ships? Not a bug, then. Shield means ships in orbit (shield = protection = "this planet is protected against invasion"). Left-click on the planet to select it and you should be able to get some info on the enemy ships (it's the same display as when you click on one of your own planets.) Move some attack s

Pretty as hell, but all of these are just way too high poly count. Looking at the wireframe, you're modeling the shape of the cockpit window frame - why not do that in texture map instead of geometry? I just see tons of places where you could get by with 1/4 the triangles, and if you did so, you'd make the models accessable to many more users (as well as making your portfolio much more impressive to anyone looking for game modelers rather than movie mo

"Teach me how to fight legends..." I just finished Apocalypse. Here are a few tips for fighting the Dread Lords: Don't build ships until you have serious high tech. It's a waste of money. Research like hell, trade tech to your allies - you'll be amazed at how fast the tech builds up. Research the planetary invasion/planetary defense techs early. Get your soldiering up to 90 or so to slow down the DL invasio

Miniaturization is expressed as an increase in total ship space instead of as a decrease in component size so that rounding is handled fairly. Depending on how you rounded, lots of components wouldn't change size at all, others would change more than a strict percentage would indicate.

I always start with a factory or two because it speeds up the build of all the remaining improvements. Depending on how many tiles are available I may wind up with even more. Once I've built it up, I may convert a couple of factories back to other purposes -- trade centers or farming or entertainment, depending on where I'm hurting the most. I generally diversify, but I'm starting to get into more specialization. You should look at the bonus

sxt178, the event description tells you exactly what you need to get them: "in what some are calling a stroke of LUCK..." -- so Altarian Universalists can get tons of them.
