I kind of disagree about the uselessness of farms, at least with no tech trading enabled on a huge galaxy with lots of stars/habitable planets. With tech trading enabled, the AI colonizes the entire galaxy very quickly, the torians with their popgrowth bonus crush lots of folks simply by existing and having empty planets flip to them, and shortly after you are left with lots of virtually empty planets or a few well built up ones that isn't really enou

Actually, they *did* tried to invade Canada during the revolutionnary war, but they lost a battle at Quebec, when they attacked in a snowstorm, and got their army decapitaded by a lucky cannon shot. The remaining 3700 troops without leader could not stand to the 150 defending soldiers (most of them drunk, 'cause it was 31 Decembe
id the Confederate States of America surrender to Great Britian? No, but if you go back a bit further, there is a reason why the Americans didn't invade Canada after they finished their own revolutionary war.
on a related note, prior to patching to 1.1 this evening, I experienced a wierd bit of AI somewhat related to the surrender bit the OP mentioned. I was mainly going for a tech victory and thanks to helping nudge everyone into fighting everyone except me through most of the game, I was way way way ahead on the tech tree. The Drath were to my north, Korx to my south, and the drath were (slllloooooowwwwwllllyyyyy) cawling across my empire with
Didn't see it mentioned in the patch notes, but it's nice that the research/influence/morale/military resource nodes are colored when you zoom out. You can tell which type it is beneath some colors of stations (i.e. brown), but others you still can't see. Perhaps a little colored stick that extends past the square box of the station would make it more clear? </
with the new population growth changes, the torians seem to have a gigantic advantage on huge maps with abundant habitable planets with their +30 pop growth bonus. AI for all of the AI's seems to expand like before as well, I had about a dozen planets in a cluster colonized and had about 5-6 altarian colony ships cruise through my little cluster, reloaded the games with cheats on and did ctrl-u to clear the fog and found that almost the entire map was colonized maybe a hundred turns or so in.<b
Base Tax Income = Population^1.02 / 100 Therefore: NOW: Population = 15B = 122bc Population = 10B = 100bc Population = 5B = 70bc Population = 1B = 31bc PROPOSED: Population = 15B = 181bc Population = 10B = 120bc Population = 5B = 60bc Population = 1B = 11b
in my current game I got lucky and everyone went after the korx and ignored me and my mass of starbased mined traderoutes I had with the korx. I was able to keep funding wars between the different species for a good long time, eventually the drath built up an army large enough to take out the korx, and more importantly were about to take over the planet I had a traderoute with. By that time I was so far ahead in the tech tree compared to everyone els
+speed can really help get an early jump on collecting a huge chunk of the galaxy on larger more habitable maps. I've lately been going with the iconians for their +research (or at least they have +research for me and I don't remember changing it) and the technologist party for +40% research total . I'm usually so far ahead on the tech tree that even if I do po
population slum planets might of course get 2 farms, usually easier to just use planets with +farm tiles for those though. Researching upgraded farms from time to time usually is better than taking up space with extra farms though, especially when playing +20 research and technologist (another +20 research) since it's quickish.
I usually only build 0-1 farms with 1-3 entertainment buildings on each planet and run taxes in 80%+ with high approval. Usually keep approval around 80ish and start building another entertainment building on a planet if it starts to drop into the mid/low 70's since that gives it time to get built on slower/smaller planets before the approval drops too far. Usually run it that way since it gives me the leeway to jack taxes up to 90-100% in emergencey
Because subs fly in space millions of miles from any planets? This is a game dude pelase don't try to tell anyone how much it will cost in the future to upgrade something. If you make it any cheaper to refit it will be exploited so just drop it already. The game isn't that frikin hard. Selective quoti
has anyone else seen a planet in their empire rebel before like this? never noticed the cash aspect, have pretty frequently had them rebel if I jack the taxes up to 100% without enough happy people tiles setup and churning out +morale.
asteroid fields are rather tiny things on a galactic scale, even if they made up the entire orbit of a star they are still pretty tiny considering the galaxy sizes. Gas nebulas and such are really the only things large enough to really fit on the map in a meaningful way.
As for the anomolies im not sure about how that works, I havent tried the auto search, and i have beaten the ai to anomolies lots of times, they have turned to head in a different direction instead of going for the nearest anomoly like you would expect. So in my experience they are not cheating! Autoh
Justas5 Dont be arses, alright? Plenty of people have crash problems WITH the right drivers and WITH the newest patch. GalCivII is a brilliant strategy game, my fav one of all time, but it was released with alot of bugs... Alot even by EA's standarts. The error message lists his version as 1.0.<
yep, autosurvey moves out into unexplored space and is a great way of making gobs of cash while exploring the map. If you have a few survey ships going it's sometimes worth leaving the tech research on some ungodly long (for early on) research like the highest sensors or higher engines due to the occasional +25% research anomalies that pop up sometimes. I don't really see it as a bug though, anomalies are just that... something unusual...
Not really beacuse max debt is 2000 BC. You can make the price gazillion for all I care. I'll be out of debt in 3 turns. if you don't have the 100k it will tell you that you will be paying 100bc per turn for 1000 turns or something.
i could have sworn there was a button that says something about show/hide hardpoints. Never clicked it, but pretty sure I remember seeing it. Have you patched yet, maybe it wasn't there on the original build?
Also is there a debug mode 'cheat'? I'd like to see what the ai players build each turn, would help me test out things. start the game with 'galciv.exe CHEAT' and then you can use ctrl-alt-shift+Z (or maybe it's ctrl-alt+Z or something similar, definately Z though) and you can take control of that race's un
I usually don't bother colonizing the low PQ planet next to my starting planet unless the initial landrush is over and I still have a conoly ship wandering around with nowhere to land. Usually by this time one of the AI's has colonized it for me and it culture flips to me later. If it's some tiny little faction that only managed to get a few planets then I will usually sell/tech trade it back to them several times over the course of the game or simpl
How about the ability to choose your race with at least some of the scenarios. I find it disappointing that everytime I want to play anything but normal I need to be Terrans. There is one that has the iconians (the grey skinned long faced folks) that is somewhat enjoyable. I'd really like the abilit
some that I remember: Ctrl-M +10k credits Ctrl-B spawns a battleship Ctrl-C clones currently selected ship Ctrl-alt+Z (or maybe it's ctrl-shift-alt+Z) takes control of currently selected unit Ctrl-T teleports selected ship to mouse location Ctrl-V summons UP council meeting. there were a few others too.
I have like 2 or 3 on a huge(gigantic?) map I was starting to play last night. Pretty sure they are more likely to appear on larger maps than smaller ones.
What sort of bonuses do anomalies give that can result in this sort of disparity in ship designs? I've had the same thing happen to me and i still don't know what the cause was. There are anomalies that give +miniaturization (i think), and I know there are random alignment choices that give +miniatur
