Is the game "open ended" ? in Galactic Civilizations II GalCiv2 Forums

sorry if this has been asked before but i had trouble spotting a search feature. (first time on the forum here) is the game "open-ended" in that you can drag your game out indefinitely so as to allow for all the tech research or are you pretty much lead through a plot/story where your game ends after a certain point? what i'm looking for is something that MOO2 had in that you could build up your empire and then just sit back and watch as t
