Hey. My brother and I have both pre-ordered the game, and have been playing the beta for a while now. Good job by the way. I've made some minor modifications to my game, to better suit the sort of game I want to have. Now, my question is: Is all the game logic done on the multiplayer server, or does the client share some responsibility? More directly, can I play with my modded files in a multiplayer game my brother creates with his un-modded files, and have my files be ignored because his

Sorry.. read the error file wrong ... I was using notepad to view it.. and it doesn't print line breaks correctly. What it actually says is, Program opened : false then the galciv directory then the important part "could not create new map" I checked write permissions.. and my dir's are both read and write enabled. -Neb

Okay.. The zip worked. I didn't get the dialog asking for my galciv path. I just got an unhandled exception. ther error file was generated, and says false galciv2 directory. I went into the preferences file and changed the path from default galciv path to where I installed it. Still gives me the same error and error file (excpet the "false galciv directory" is the one I changed it to. I'll play around with it some more. -Neb

Tried it. It also gives an error report box. I checked the details and it says it's a file not found exception. does it need any files that the installer may not create proporly? Or Maybe you're using a relative file path that would work where you installed it, but others may not have (if you reference a file or two from the galciv install.. not sure). just throwing ideas out there. -Neb

I'll get it. It looks to have amore in common with the Total War series than the GC, or MOO series. I, being a fan of the total war series will probably like it, and if the reviews are not bad, I will buy for sure. -Neb

Well, you're obviously very undecided. Don't put out the money for a next generation console then. If you must get a console, get a cheaper console (ps2, xbox, gamecube) and see if you like it. Spend some time playing it. Then you'll know whether the the money for a next generation console is worth the money to you. Chances are, your tastes are similar to your friends'. If your friends have consoles, and like them, get the one they have. Hell, maybe just borrow one for a week or two and

I'm a PC gamer, but I follow the entire gaming scene and am a tech oriented guy. The PS3 has a lot more potential than the 360. It has a LOT of potential power, and is capable of much better graphics than the 360. But, it's expensive and whether developers utilize the power effectively has yet to be seen. The 360 is cheaper than the PS3, it's out now, and has a good amount of power. Sort of a middle road choice. The Wii from Nintendo has the least power of t

I recently thought about this. What if, instead of researching down the research tech-line I would focus on the industry-line. I could complete the industry-line twice as quickly. Except for a few money-farm planets, all my planets would be factory only (and a starport). So I could have all of my planets full of high-level factories quickly. they do a decent amount of research when focused on research and can pump out ships quickly if need be. Doesn't work well in prac

A while ago, the terrans found some ranger ships. The game crashed when I clicked ok on the event. I didn't save the debug.err. A few minutes ago, I had the random event that kills the arcaen leader and puts us two at war (aswell as giving them ships scattered throughout the galaxy). It crashed when I clicked ok. Here's the debug.err from that crash. Don't say its my drivers. I've played dozens of stable games with them. And all this crash did was force me to relo

El Conquest, I believe he is requesting an ability to assign ships or fleets special tactical icons (when zoomed out) for the pulpous of identifying special ships or fleets. For instance, say that you have a fleet consisting of ships designed specifically with beam weapons (for those races that are vulnerable to such weapons) and another fleet for mass drivers. It would b

I play most of the game zoomed out to a large tactical view. I like seeing my fleets and planets represented by icons. It makes the game easier to see, assess at a glance, and just generally more tidy. One thing that would be cool though, for a patch, expansion, or even galciv 3, would be the ability to customize those icons. For instance: I design a warship, and on the shipbuilder screen I choose which icon it will be represented by. That way, I could have different classes, or

Its not giving me an option to vote, even though I'm logged in.. but here's my opinion. I would rather have this extra art content coupled with the expansion. If the expansion is $30 instead of $20, so be it. I don't like buying things over digital distribution. I bought a boxed copy of Galciv, and I bought a boxed copy of HL2 because I don't like the uncertainty of online services. That and I don't have a credit card. I'm hooked on this game.. have been since it came

Ive never played to old version however I dont think Im missing anything. I gather from the above statement that you've never played before. Keep in mind, that not all planets are habitable. -Neb

This isn't really a comment on the modding question, but rather the suggestion about 5 1d4 rolls. Are you sure the chances for any number are equal in 5 1d4 rolls. I've never done statistics, but I don't think they are. In 5 1d4 rolls, there are 1024 possible solutions (4x4x4x4x4). Only one combination of those 1024 combinations comes out to a roll of 20 (4-4-4-4). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that solution is flawed. -Neb
