Game works for me.. no crashes or anything else funny. I find it ironic you tout your "IT manager" experience and then say the release is unpolished. In my experience buggy half finished software is the norm, not the exception. In fact the term "software engineering" is a disgrace to engineering professionals in general. But I digress. I love this game and it has been rock solid. BTW the production skipping "bug" is by

I dunno you have to research 4 techs just to be able to build it, and being a galactic wonder it's pretty hard to get it built before all the anomalies are gone. Besides that, if you aren't also researching life support techs chances are the only ship with enough range to get to the remaining anomalies is your flagship. I built this my last game and regretted it, since I already had my flagship and two custom "survey scouts" by th

I'll have to look into governments in more detail, I've largely ignored them so far. As far as economy starbases, I only use them in the path of trade routes. How do they affect planets in their sphere of influence, by just boosting tax revenue? Along those lines is that how market centers, etc affect a planet's economy? I think I'm going to keep to myself for awhile now, and optimize my economy and keep plugging away at the tech

I haven't messed with governments yet. They are whatever Terran starts with, Imperial and Federalists I think. I'm at Xeno Farms and Media Center levels. I don't know what specific techs those are but not far up the tree. What do you recommend on that front? I thought my economy was pretty strong as it's higher than any other race.

Yeah I'm liking the military conquest idea more and more. As for buying mining starbases, I can't get anyone to budge on those. How much money do you need to buy one usually? The Korx have one in my influence and it's annoying me. I might go to war with them just to take it.

Well, that was just for reference. I actually have the slider as high as it will go while still getting 100% approval since I currently don't need the money. But if it was at 50% that's what the income would be. I'm hoping for more "big picture" type ideas.. maybe I put too much detail for that. Maybe not everyone is as bored at work as I am. <img sr

I've got a good game going right now on a Large map with all normal opponents but I can't decide how to "close" my strategy. I figured a "What would you do?" topic might be interesting to see how people play and maybe get some new ideas. This is the situation as it stands now: Large galaxy, playing as Terran with 6 normal opponents. Currently dominating social production, manufacturing, trade and economy. Recently took the lead in

If there was multiplayer how would the following things be handled? - Diplomacy techs. There would be almost entirely useless in multiplayer, aside from researching the ability to make alliances. - What do you do about mid game scenarios where everything you need to do is queued up and you just need to click the turn button a few times? I can see that being annoying when you've got even a few turns to wait and the other players ar

From what I've seen in other threads once the influence ratio is above 4.00 on a planet and the skull icon appears there will be a "roll" to flip the planet every turn. I've also seen speculation that the happiness and maybe morale? of a planet can affect this roll as well. I've personally never had too much luck flipping planets due to influence. I've won influence victories without flipping planets and just by having >80% of the map within

You need to have "close" relations with the race you want to ally with. Giving them money or techs can make them like you, within reason.

Does the following plan sound any better? Research: 1. universal translator 2. diplomatic relations (to get to trade) 3. trade 4. The diplomacy stuff, maybe 2 levels 5. weaponry? 6. Xeno research 7. whtvr and basically I should bribe my neighbours into attacking others...but where do I get the f

I don't see how you could possible win an Influence or Diplomatic Victory without having an edge in their respective technologies. I suppose if you were strictly playing it as a war game you could get away with ignoring research and using economic might to overpower everyone.

You don't have to flip planets to get an Influence Victory. I just played a game where I only flipped one planet, although at the end there were quite a few with the pirate icon next to them. Early game I put influence bases near my initial borders and next to the closest alien planets. Be prepared to buy off the other races when they wise up to your strategy. Also, if you maintain strong trade with them they seem more reluctant to wage war

Ah see I love the mop-up. I enjoy slowly strangling them with ships, inexorably tightening the noose until I have the last couple worlds completely surrounded. It gives me a certain sadistic satisfaction. "How DARE you challenge ME"

I can't answer your question directly, but I will say to build your own ships. As you research weapons, defense, sensor and engine techs new components become available in the shipyard. The best way to take advantage of these incremental gains is to build specialized ships for whatever you need.

I just won an influence game using the "speak softly and carry a big stick" strategy. I initially made a big blunder though and sparked a war with the Arceans because they built an influence base right next to mine, they also had an influence resource I wanted. Unfortunately they took two of my worlds about 10 turns later, before I even got to the resource, so I decided to back up and try a different tactic. The second time I just moved a co

Ah ok, I didn't realize influence was something accrued over time. I should have, I could see it incrementing in the foriegn affairs screen. So it sounds like influence victory and military might are not exclusive. How hard is it to get a planet to "defect" to your side? Just get it inside your influence border? Can it be done without an influence starbase in close proximity?

OK I'm still a newbie to this game, and the genre in general really. Last 4X game I played was Civ I and I mainly picked this up because it reminded me of TradeWars 2002. I've only played one game so far also, so please bear with me if I am missing something obvious. I played a scenario (not campaign) game with all the defaults. Chose Terran against Drengin, Yor, Alteria?, Arcea and Toria. The game went really well over
