Well, I just finished a game where in the end, I just ended up massing mine cruisers as vasari. The game ended up using over 2 gigs of ram and it wouldnt even render all the mines on the screen. I was just having mine wars with the computer. The scroll bar goes down even farther than that. That's over 2,000 mines right there lol. -Sti
you should have a look at the dev journals - they talk about what programs they used
Thanks for that! I'll go have a read :) And thanks everyone else for your responses. -Stick
Hey GPG/Stardock, After poking around the LUAs for a couple of hours, I'm really excided to start modding this game. What I'm really interested in now is the model file format. Is there any way you guys could provide tools for exporting (maybe even importing?) models for Demigod? And what did your artists use to create the 3D content for the game? Thanks! -Stick
Amazing beta. I guess everyone in this thread isn't allowed to play in future betas since they will be mroe fun, and we couldn't handle that :P -Stick
If you have 3D Studio Max, there is a tool that allows you to import/export mesh files. Just do a search for the thread. If you do not have 3d Studio Max however, I'm unaware of any other tools. -Stick
The only reason I'll be getting SC2 is for the singleplayer portion of the game. I want to see how the storyline goes on. SC2 looks to be just more of the same old RTS formula. Dawn of War (for the resource system anyway), World in Conflict, and Sins have changed my expectations for a good RTS, so I'll still be here :) -Stick
Guelph, Ontario, Canada :) -Stick
Oh Nooooo!
The way you wrote that made me chuckle :) -Stick
I just have one request. Could you possibly link all the dummy objects to the ship mesh when you import a .mesh file? -Stick
...and while I was at it, I rendered out the Sova Carrier: -Stick
This is exactly the tool I was looking for! :D I have a buttload of ships I made for Galactic Civilizations 2, but I never ended up going ahead with my mod. Was too ambitious anyway. But now I think that I may throw a few of em in Sins :) Btw, the fact that you have import/export functionality is badass. Made myself a new background :) -Stick
I thought the same thing as the OP when I got my first Sova carrier. I was wondering what the incentive was to put points into the missile batter since the description shows no change when you go to increase the skill level. It would be nice if the 'next level' description showed the increased stats in the missile battery because I'm sure that a lot more people are wondering why they should put more points into that skill :P -Stick
lol oh man, that's kinda cool :P It would be neat if you didn't have to use that really awkward looking phase lane and could just send ships between the 2 wells :P -Stick
The ability to build a space station/some sort of floating outpost in sectors that have no planets and are not colonizable (i.e. debris fields, storm sectors, etc) -Stick
You should be able to run on max graphics fine. The game does not auto-detect. -Stick
Ok, I just had 2 issues come up in my last game that I never really noticed before (AI was only on Challenging, so this may be a part of the issue): - AI never attacks player asteroid mining bases - after a mega event that raises planet quality (is that a mega event?) in a sector on all planets, AI doesn't bother to even try and colonize the planets that have been made available to them. Has anyone else noticed this before? -Stick
Ok, just got back from my first game. Never finished the game, but let's just say I experience my first Mega Event... the Dread Lords have arrived! Then I made the mistake of declaring war on them and, well, lets just say my situation is a little interesting right now Oh yeah, and I have agents on every single planatary tile on the Torian homeworld <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/s
Oh wow. I think I'm definatly going to be purchasing this. I can sympathise with your 3D modeling team. Rendering images basically takes up all system resources, and if you try to do anything else, you run the risk of completly messing up render that's taking 6 hours per FRAME, and yeah.... lets say I've done that at least a couple of times Does this support Linux? That would be a great f
Stick, what did you use to model your race with? 3D Studio Max. I also modeled everything else that I plan to include in my race mod in there too. BTW if your having trouble naming your race just take a name o
I think it's safe to say that you have no access to those models. The only ones who do are the ones working in the art department at Stardock I'm afraid :/ -Stick
I think you may have misunderstood. I do know that they're adding new hulls, but no new sets of hulls. They are adding new hulls to the exsisting sets that exist. -Stick
This sounds fantastic. I really do enjoy reading these posts because as being a programmer myself, I can understand the challenges involved. I do have one question though. In Dar Avatar, will it be possible to add more ship styles? The ones in GC2 were hardcoded in, and as far as I could tell, the race ID corrisponded with the style of hull that race would have. Will Dark Avatar allow us to make a whole new set of hulls/jewlery and have that selectable for a new race? -Sti
I'm still working on the race (making a mod with brand new hulls, jewlery, weapons, etc., and of course the new race itself), but this is what I have so far. Oh, and for now, the race has yet to be named, so I'll be refering to it as [race] from here on in. [race] <td width="11
Greetings, Some time ago, I released a cargo hull with an animated spinning section on it. It was brought to my attention that when you add jewlery pieces to it, GC2 will not scale down the ship when it is not in planetary orbit. All other hulls are rescaled properly, but once an animation is incorperated, it is not rescaled, thus making it possible to have galaxy-sized ships. Will this problem be resolved? I know that there are no animated hulls currently in the game, and
Thanks for that Kryo. Wasn't sure if it was known or not. -Stick
