You could also give them their planets back. In the trade screen you can trade planets, so just trade any planet that converted by influence back to them for free, or some $$ if you are feeling greedy.

Is the bug where there is no research during the first turn after loading a saved game fixed in 1.2? I don't think that Stardock considers this behavior as a bug ... I would consider it a bug. You could conceivabley chart the entire map, get the best planet(s) at the begining, and generally cheese the whole game in turn 1.
If you really want to you can check out Brad's did you know that you could do this post.. and there is a hotseat mode that he mensions in this.. That hotseat mode is quite a hack. When you switch civs, the tech tree doesn't show up correctly, the main map is what the other person has seen, and you can only switch races after you meet and can s
The AI used to go for all the weapons, and would do which ever would get done first. That means it takes the AI 3 times longer to get more powerful weapons. It's much better for them to go for one type of weapon then all 3. Also, the AI will switch weapon paths when it notices that you have high defense against it (at least Ive seen the AI do so on the higher difficulties, weather or not it was intended, Im not sure).
For anomolies, everyone, including you, "knows" where they are. If you have your flag ship selected, and press the auto-survey button (A on the keyboard), your flagship will automatically start heading towards the nearest anomoly. That anomly could be right next to the ship, or completely across the map in unexplored territory. It doesn't really matter where, as long as its the closest.
I voted yes, but I would be happier with having a full featured hotseat mode in a regular expansion. I tried the ctrl-shift-z method, but that isn't very fun. The tech tress don't show up correctly. Fog of war gets a bit weird. But mostly, you can only use one customized race.
I think the ideal way to do mulitplayer for a game like this would be very similar to the way metalknights does it. Basically, each turn lasts a set amount of time, usually between 12 and 48 hours. Each player plays his or her at some point during that time. Obviously this would require some sort of dedicated server to host the games. However, you could join quite a few games at one time. Games could last weeks or even months at normal
