And now the AI overcompensates by not building any factories and plastering econ buildings on nearly every tile. I don't think they are happy with less than 10 econs per planet any more, and it is rare to find more than 1-2 factories even on high PQ planets. Some have none at all. Actually, I've seen the opposite of this. The Iconians surrendere

I have discovered what might be a bug. When colonizing a planet, and the planet name window pops up, the planet name cannot be seen because it is showing white text with a white background. I have not changed any of the interface settings. Below is the debug.err, though I don't think it will help much. Debug Message: Version v1.3 beta 3X last updated on: Wed Aug 30 19:23:43 2006 Debug Message: GalCiv2 is activated. Debug Message: Checking DX Version. Debug Message: **

Luck is the best possible value for a single attribute point! I'm considering stopping using it because it gives such a big advantage. I think that's why I never used it before. I was afraid of having too much advantage, and thus not enough fun. I was still getting precursor mines on occasion, but had never seen the library until this past

Taking the "luck" attribute really helps too. Ah, that explains it. I never used to use that, but decided to try it finally. That makes much more sense now.

I've had this game since it came out, and have never seen the precursor library on any planet. Two days ago, I was finishing a game, and took over a planet that had one! Then the next day I was starting a new game, and colonized not one, but two planets that had precursor libraries!! What do you think about that? Crazy, huh?

to all the newbies.... LISTEN TO STYKMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Lord, don't say that! What if I say something wrong?? Yeah, the trade pirates don't happen that often (to me, anyway), but I do find they are typically stronger than the prison break pirates. Sometimes they occur after a civ has fallen, too, especially a minor civ.

Pirates, I have come to learn, are easily defeated once you know how. I have not lost to pirates in months. They generally concentrate on one type of weapon and one type of defense, though the two are not always related, like beam and shields. All you need to do when they show up is create ships that use a weapon for which they have no defense, and that have a relatively strong defense for their weapon. Typically, the pirates will specialize in whatever weapon class the civ they broke out f

I don't know if this has been asked before, but it just occurred to me during a game. Do the benefits of a military starbase affect, say, an economy starbase that I've built in the same area? Will the weapons and defenses on the economy starbase be increased by the presence of the military starbase, much like ships are?

One thing nobody mentioned is to choose Neutral for your society's ethics, and then build the Temple of Neutrality. It gives you a percentage of all the trade done by any Neutral civilization.

I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere before, but I couldn't find the thread. What is the process for deleting saved games? I think I have one that I never finished before upgrading to the new beta (1.3 v.1), and I want to get rid of it.

My biggest issue with espionage has always been that you can't initiate any on the minor races. So, I can never really find out what they've done to their planet, or what kind of bonuses it might have if I decide to conquer them (I know, conquer them anyway). Also, without espionage, I can't steal techs, and occasionally they'll have one or two I might want, but they won't barter for it.

The trick, as in any scenario, is to develop the weapons that the other races don't, and the defenses to whatever the other races weapons are. That being said, I had a fleet of 5 capital ships equipped with disintegrators tear through a fleet of about 20 small ships. My fleet had something like 490 beam weapon "points", and about the same in missile defense. The other fleet was using missiles as weapons, and also used missile defense. Therefore, they could not effectively defeat my beam weap

Core ships are good for one thing... NOTHING, hell if you use core designs not being able to put a few engines and a laser on a tiny ship, it doesn't take a genius to do that. Well, apparently it doesn't take a genius to be a jerk, either.

(no-one should be using the core ships anyway). I disagree. I think they're good for building up a fleet around a planet with low manufacturing abilities, to prevent invasion. Yes, they'll get vaporized eventually, but hopefully not before you can send reinforcements from somewhere else.

Hmm...maybe they could even be added as another "race". That might be interesting to see who would try to keep the peace with you and who wouldn't. All the government stuff might be hard to pull off, but I'm sure there are piratical races in some universe somewhere.

I always thought the Torians and Iconians were kind of boring until today, actually. For the firs time, I decided to play a game as good, and when I did, they both decided to turn evil. And whoever said the Thalans didn't act like insects was wrong on at least one count: they are very industrious. When you take over one of their planets, there are always tons of factories on them.

Yes, it's only one "i" in America. However, I did notice that "Quantum" was spelled incorrectly on one of those techs (I forget which one). I think it was spelled "Qauntum".

It would also be nice to have the ability to trade entire fleets. Late in the game, I have a lot of lower-level fleets that I don't need, and I would love to be able to give them away to a minor race or something. So, I can trade Fleet XYZ instead of Defender A, Defender B, etc. If that is already available, ignore my stupidity and please point me in the right direction to accomplish that task.

Have the proposed changes/enhancements due out in release 1.3 been posted anywhere? I haven't seen anything around on the subject.
