"I maximize weapons on ships.... to use up all the space... I hate wasted space on ships.... " But then you also waste a lot of ships. I tend to build ships that use defensive tech against the weapons the other races built to a certain degree while putting weapons in em that the enemy has no or little defense against. Even if my weapons are not as advanced th

Why not forego cheat mode and just modfify your raceconfig file for the techs and abilities you want?
Please post the contents of your debug.err file. That might help track down he problem.
My slightly-tangential gripe is Transport ships. I build them with multiple modules, but if I'm not watching they auto-launch way-undercapacity.... I had at least one invasion that failed because it turned out there was almost nobody on board. I'm always stuck launching them separate. Sometimes the planet has plenty of people to fill it.... it would be nice if there
My scroll wheel is set to "Other/Generic Button", and it works for the rotate, scroll and zoom like it should. I have the cordless Logitech MX Laser, by the way, and use the SetPoint software.
Alter your raceconfig file in the My Docs\Games\GalCiv2 folder to give yourself whatever techs and abilities you desire. Those changes carry over.
You might have a bad ram chip. If you have 2 or more sticks installed you could try removing one and testing each stick separately. Sometimes reseating the ram can clear things up, too. Sometimes those random problems can be a bear to track down.
Please post the contents of your debug.err file.
Funny, but I get better frame rates with AAx4 than with x2 or none. And I agree, ram is top of the list to upgrade. If you have under 2GB you will go into swap file rather quickly on the huge and gigantic maps. I usually play huge maps, and the ram usage normally gets to around 1.6GB.
The wrong defense is still a bit effective against any of the weapon types. It is calculated on its square root value, so you might get as much as 3 defense if you have say, 9 shield defense against mass drivers. Also, consider what some of the 'special' ships are outfitted with. The Lucky Ranger, one tough ship to kill, has only mass drivers and armor. But it still stands up pretty well to beams and missles. In one recent battle of mine, I had outfitted a ship with ve
That sounds more like a hardware issue, not the game itself. Bad memory or video card, something along that line. The monitor totally losing a signal like that is strange.
Stardock is no Microsoft, thank God. I think they only have around 1 or 2 dozen employees. It is amazing what they have done, and are still doing for us, considering how small they really are.
What kind of crashes? Mine will sometimes flip me out to the desktop, although it hasn't happened with the recent versions (1.11 and 1.2beta) except every now and then when I am using Control-N. Have you done stuff like defrag the drive, exclude the GalCiv folders from real-time virus scanning, using the hardware cursor option?
Another bug, I'm not finding it posted yet. I'm using Logitech wireless keyboard and moues combo, I need to use 'hardware mouse' option. Are you using an Nvidia video card? I think there is mention in the readme file, or one of the posts somewhere, that Nvidia users may need to use the hardware cursor. It is not because you are using a w
Why would you have Media Player running in the background? That is just asking for trouble, since both programs are trying to use the same sound card.
By lucky I do not mean the rare few and far between. I consider anyone lucky that has zero problems, that's all. I am not one of the lucky in that regard, although I have very few problems. The only issues I have had are the occasional flip out to the desktop or the sometimes choppy audio as I am loading a game. Nothing I am inclined to rant and rave about. And there is probably some percentage of gamers out there that suffer the same types of things and don't report them, but just take it in st
Good. I'm glad you found the problem. With that debug.err it was impossible to see what res the game was trying to use.
Sorry, but you can't generalize that way just because you happen to be one of the lucky ones with zero problems. Granted, some of the problems are because the user has old drivers or strange processes running in the background, but some have been programming errors as well. Your post merely shows your ignorance.
If it was working fine for 2 days you may be looking in the wrong place for the problem. Have you tried reinstalling GalCiv2 in case a file got corrupted? Defrag, Checkdisk, virus scan, that sort of thing?
The newer Nvidia 6800GS is a much better choice, It has a 256 bit memory bus vs a 128 bit and is currently the best mid-range graphics chip out there.
First of all, get rid of the beta drivers and install the WHQL drivers. Then see if it still has a problem.
Can you post your debug.err info?
Those last two lines in the debug indicate a video driver problem. Or a video card problem. Did you uninstall the old drivers and reboot before installing the new ones? With Nvidia drivers it sometimes works better to do it that way.
Well, I hope one of the races to get the boot is the Korx. They're dorx. They are the least challenging of any of the major races.
Last night I downloaded and installed the 1.20.009 update for Gal Civ II, since then I can not start a new game OR a saved game … here is a copy of the Debug.err. I know that my sound driver isn’t the latest but the debug output doesn’t seem to be related and everything was working fine before I patched. Any ideas ? Debug Message: Version v1.2 Beta 1 last
